The Cure

Summary:

Mystique and Hank fight over the mutant cure.

Work Text:

“This is it,” Hank spoke as he turned away from his lab equipment. “This is the mutant cure.”

All the mutants looked either in awe or disgust, however Mystique looked intently. Her head slowly raising to examine the vile in front of her, yellow eyes flashing before the glass.

“Give it to me,” she demanded.

“What?” Hank asked, giving Mystique a confused look.

“Give. It. To. Me,” she clenched her teeth. “I didn’t stutter.”

“Raven—“

“Mystique.”

“You don’t need this,” he slowly lowered the vile, bringing it closer to his side. Fear filled his eyes, as Mystique approached.

“Give it to me, Hank. Final warning,” Mystique hissed. Standing in front of Hank, their chests touching. This wasn’t the romantic moment Hank had hoped for.

“No! You don’t need it! Why would you want this in the first place!?” Hank pleaded.

“Because of you!”

The room went silent. The mutants looked at each other, a shared moment of shock and confusion.

“You! Hank!” her teeth clenched. Her jaw unmoving. “You were the one to make me insecure! Why? Because you’re a blue fuzzy monster? At least you have some form of human. I have to actively hide who I am from everybody. Every single day. For other peoples comfort. For humans comfort. For YOUR comfort!” she slammed her hand down on the table next to them. The glass instruments shook, and the room stayed silent. “I thought I could trust you. I thought — I didn’t have to pretend. But I guess you’re all the same, right?”

With a quick swift movement, Hank had the vile full of yellow liquid taken from him. Mystique held it in her hand, swishing around the contents with a small, pained, smirk. “You did this. Now you watch.”

“MYSTIQUE!”

She swung her head back, her red hair falling behind her, eyes closing shut, swallowing the substance.
