***Korra’s POV***

“Asami! Hurry up!! We want to get there first!” She was sure taking her time this morning getting ready, and seemed to be in no hurry to get in the park.

“The rides aren’t going anywhere Korra…”

I didn’t care. I was holding onto her hand for dear life as I weaved in and out of the crowd of people. “But in order to ride every single one, we need to start A. S. A. P.”

After acquiring our attire for the day, I definitely wanted a commemorative picture in front of the infamous castle.

I pecked her cheek for the first one. Feeling a bit promiscuous, I wrapped my arms around her torso and lifted her in the air, planting a passionate kiss on those ruby red lips I love so much.

“I love you,” I whispered.

She wrapped her arms around my neck and placed her lips on my cheek, “I love you too.”

“You know… my first girl crush was Keira Knightley,” I looked over at Asami, “but she has got nothing on you babe.”

I could tell she was giving me her, okay dear, look. I made sure to wink at her slyly.

“Well, my ‘gay awakening’ was Meg from Hercules.”

“Really?! But she’s from a cartoon!”

“You’re telling me that you never had a crush on a cartoon?”

“Uhh. Ummm… I…..”

This was not something I wanted to confess to anyone ever! It was too embarrassing.

“Oh, come on! You have to tell me who your cartoon crush was!”

“Okay, fine.” I inhaled deeply. “You know that movie with Roger Rabbit… It’s real life with cartoon characters in it?”

“Don’t tell me—”

“ItwasJessicaRabbit!” There, I said it.

I could feel my cheeks turning the brightest shade of red. But I knew how to spin this.

“I guess I always had a thing for the color red.” I raised an eyebrow and planted a kiss on my love’s cheek.

We were on our way to Big Thunder Mountain and Asami had that look in her eyes. She was lost in thought about something. She had seemed off this entire trip and today was no difference. Something was on her mind, and she was not willing to share. It was unlike her to hide things from me, but I tried to put those doubts out of mind so we could continue to have a great day.

“You okay there ‘Sami? You look like you went somewhere there for a minute.”

“I was just thinking about you.” Was she really?

“I imagine it was a good thought?”

She hugged my arm. “The best.”

While in the line, she agreed to play ‘Guess That Disney Character.’

“You’re joking right? Everyone knows who Kronk is!”

“Sorry, does not ring a bell.” She has got to be joking right now.

I decided to do my best impression for her. “The poison. The poison for Kuzco. The poison chosen specifically to kill Kuzco. Kuzco’s poison.”

“Nope, still nothing.”

“Babe! We are so watching The Emperor’s New Groove tonight!” That is, if you don’t want to do other things tonight.

“You’re much better with children than I am.” I heard in my ear.

“You’re good with Tenzin’s kids! You always have been. And they love you! Although, not as much as me.” I kissed the arm that hung around my shoulders.

“Have you ever thought about having children one day?”

That question caught me off-guard a little. “I don’t know, I mean I thought about obviously. Probably back when I was dating Mako any way.”

“Oh- but not since you’ve been with me?” Oh no. That’s not what I meant.

“Of course, I want kids with you!” I grabbed her hands. “We’ve never talked about it, and I wasn’t sure how you felt about it. I guess we never really discussed that aspect of our future.”

I pulled her in close for a warm embrace, as I could tell she was hurt. “I would love to have children with you Asami. Whether we adopt or use a surrogate or if one of us wants to carry. I want nothing more than to eventually have a family with you. I love you so much.”

Little does she know that I plan on starting that future a lot sooner than she thinks.

We were in line for the princesses, next up was Cinderella. I ran over to her before Asami could hear my comment. I leaned in close and whispered a secret to her as quietly as possible. “I’m going to ask that beauty a very important question tonight.”

Cinderella gasped and had the biggest smile on her face. She commented to Asami how charming I am, and she returned with a quite hurtful remark.

“Yeah, when she wants to put on a show.”

I may have overreacted and ended up storming off. I am also quite nervous for later tonight when I can finally ask the woman I love a very special question.

I called my mom to ask for advice. Maybe tonight was not a good time for this. The last time my mom was visiting she gave me the ring that my dad gave to her when he proposed. It had been sitting in a box under the seat of my car for months. When Asami asked me to join her on this trip, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to finally ask her. But something just doesn’t feel right.

“I don’t know, Mom!”

“Honey, you need to calm down. I’m sure nothing is wrong. Everything is going to work itself out.”

“Look, we’ll just have to see how the night goes. Currently though, I really don’t feel like asking. She kind of hurt my feelings.”

“She loves you sweetie, and you love her. That’s all that matters.”

“I know, I know.” Asami’s here. “I got to let you go Mom. I’ll call you later this afternoon.” I waved at her. “Yeah, I love you too. Bye”

With Starbucks in her hand, she apologized, and we made up.

After a painstakingly long wait for It’s a Small World, we got off the ride and before I could finish humming the annoying tune in my head, I bumped shoulders with a taller woman and a familiar voice caught my attention.

“Korra? Is that you?”

Uh oh. Please don’t be Kuvira. Not today.

I turned and saw the long dark braid, pale skin, and a smirk. It was the woman who broke my heart years ago. The woman I never thought I would get over. I should play it cool right?

Not even thinking, I dropped Asami’s hand and went in for a friendly hug.

“WOW! Kuvira? What are the odds that you would be here?!”

This isn’t going to end well.

After to moving to a quieter area, we caught up with various things, but I could tell Asami was getting uncomfortable.

A few minutes later, she got up to grab a snack. Not before landing a show stopping kiss on my lips. I’m sure it was to mark her territory, as I could tell she was unhappy with certain parts of the conversation.

After she walked away, Kuvira decided we needed to move to a quieter area. I followed her over to a nook in the wall close by.

“Look Korra, I knew you were going to be here, and I know what you’re planning on doing tonight. I came here to see if there was still a chance for us!”

She has got to be kidding right now.

“I know I screwed up in the past. But I’m a different person now! Breaking your heart was the biggest mistake of my life.”

“You cheated on me Kuvira! In our bed, in our home. And it wasn’t just once! You had multiple people there! All while you were still telling me how much you loved me and wanted to marry me!”

She seriously thinks that I still love her?

“When I finally discovered what was going on, you broke me. Not just my heart, you broke me! Thank Raava for my friends because without them, I never would have learned my worth.”

“But Korra, I have grown so much as a person. I stopped drinking, I’m going to therapy. I—”

I stopped her before she could finish. “Look, I’m happy that you are getting help and that you are in a much better place in life now. Maybe one day, we can be friends.”

“I don’t want to be friends though Korra. I’m still in love with you, I want to marry you!”

At that moment her hands started to reach for my face and I could tell she was leaning in. I stepped back before she could lay a finger on me.

“Uhhh what do you think you’re doing? I’m with Asami, and we are very happy together. She is IT for me.”

“Oh come on. I know miss priss can’t please you like I can.”

“Actually, with her, I am more myself than I ever was with anyone! I don’t have to fake it or hide anything from Asami. What we had Kuvira, was a lie. I lied to myself that whole relationship because I thought that’s what happiness was. Being with Asami though, that has shown me how a relationship with someone is supposed to be, and I have never been happier.”

Kuvira was at a loss of words.

“This is it Kuv. This is goodbye. I really do hope that you find what I have with Asami one day.”

With sulking shoulders, she began her long walk to find her friends. If she actually even came with anyone.

Now for my explanation to Asami.

After the very unexpected visit with Kuvira, Asami and I talked and thankfully all was well. We explored the park some more, rode a few more rides, and even saw Mickey Mouse himself.

I could tell her mind was thinking hard about something. When she gets like this, only one thing can snap her out of her daze. Food!

“I knew that would snap you out of your daze… What is with you today anyway? Seems like there is something on your mind.”

“It’s nothing. Just overthinking some work stuff that I shouldn’t be worrying about while we enjoy our day.”

I did notice that throughout the day, she was very concerned with her phone and answering whoever it was that had been texting her.

As we got off the Space Orbiter, I noticed the time was nearly 8 PM and that meant that my plan would be put into action in 1 hour and 15 minutes. I have thought about this moment since before our first date. Never would I have imagined that I would be proposing to the love of my life here at Disney World. The moment needed to be perfect. Asami will never expect what I have come up with.

The nerves were starting to set in. I needed to call my mom for support, but first I needed privacy. Just as I laid my head on Asami’s shoulder, she quickly stood up to answer her phone.

“Woah, everything okay?”

“Yeah, I’m so sorry. This is a call from a partner I had been expecting all day. I’m going to take this, and I’ll grab us a snack to eat while we wait for the show. Be right back!”

Well, her timing was almost perfect because my mom called a few minutes later.

“Hey mom! So glad you called, I am beyond nervous right now! What if she says no, what if the ring doesn’t fit, what if—”

“Sweetie! Calm down and take a deep breath.” I did. “Everything is going to be perfect. And not because you planned everything meticulously, but because you love her and she loves you. You could’ve proposed in a dump, and it would have been perfect.”

“Mom, that would be awful to propose at that dump!”

“You know what I mean, the place of the proposal doesn’t matter. What matters is you two! Your love!”

Before I could respond, I saw the most beautiful woman in the crowd and couldn’t believe how lucky I was. All my nerves seemed to disappear in that moment.

“Okay, mom. I got to go. Looks like Asami brought me a sweet treat! Love you too.”

The ice cream was great, and the show was getting ready to start. However, I needed a moment to get my thoughts together so I tried to excuse myself to the restroom. Asami for whatever reason did not want me to go.

Guess I need to do this on the spot. Why didn’t I write down what I wanted to say?

I was lost in thought. So lost that I was not paying attention when Asami turned to face me.

“Korra?” I turned to face her. “Hi. Umm— I love you. I love you so much.” I tried to respond but she stopped me. “Let me finish please.” She took my hands in hers.

“These last 3 years with you have been the best of my life. Even before we were officially together, you always meant so much to me. I knew that our friendship was more than just that. The years we spent apart were some of the hardest I’ve ever gone through. But through it all, I have loved you. More than I have ever loved anyone! Korra, you are the kindest person. You are brave, strong, dependable, loyal, considerate, and so much more, but I need to wrap this up.”

She is not doing what I think she is doing! Is she? Oh gosh, I think I’m going to cry.

“This has not been an easy thing to hide from you Kor.” That’s a ring box. “This adventure with you so far has been incredible.” She’s down on her knee! “Would you do me the honor of continuing this journey together as my wife?”

I could not control the tears at this point. “Korra, will you marry me?”

At this point, my surprise had to be mere seconds away. I got down on my knees to meet Asami’s beautiful jade eyes.

“Asami, I love you so much. You are my best friend. You are the best person I know! You are incredibly smart, loving, forgiving, compassionate, and too much for me to say right now because I need to speed this up.”

“Korra, you are kind of scaring me.”

My eyes went upward to check the sky. “Would you just look up Asami?”

She curiously obliged me and turned her eyes to lights above us. There it was, lighting up the sky were the words, ‘Asami will you marry me?’

Tears were now in her eyes.

“Kor? Are you—”

The ring was now in my hand. “Asami Sato, will you make me the happiest person alive and marry me?”

In the background, the voices and screams sounded a million miles away. People were cheering and shouting, but all I could hear was the beating of my heart outside my chest.

“YES YES YES! I will marry you Korra.” I put the ring on her finger and luckily, it fit perfectly. “Now, will you please answer my question since you left me hanging.

I couldn’t help but chuckle since I did partially ruin her proposal with my own. “Yes, Asami. I would love to marry you.”

We kissed and held each other for what felt like hours, but we were brought back to reality by the increasing cheers and the surprising embrace from our friends.

“CONGRATULATIONS! AHHHHH!!!”

“Oh by the way, Opal and Bolin are here. Long story.”

Opal couldn’t contain her excitement. “We got the whole thing on video!”

“Congrats guys! Since I was able to keep both of your secrets, does that mean I get to be the best man?!”

Asami and Opal both glared at Bolin. “YOU KNEW?”

“Of course I knew! Do you think Korra could really plan all this on her own?”

“Hey! The fireworks were my idea!”

“Yeah, but what did you originally want them to spell out?”

“Uhhh, never mind that. I’m just so happy that you both are here!”

“So where to? Shall we go somewhere to celebrate?” Opal was obviously wanting to continue the celebration with us.

Since placing that ring on her finger, I could not take my hands off of Asami. Did we even let go from our embrace?

“Actually, I’m quite tired. I think we’ll save the celebrating for tomorrow.”

“But Asami, I’m to excited to sleep right now! Knowing that you are my fiancé and all.”

She leaned in whispering something in my ear and my eyes widened.

“OH! Yeah guys, Asami is right. I’m pretty exhausted from the day.”

Opal and Bolin both looked at each other knowingly. “You just want to go have sex, don’t you?”

Not answering their question, Asami threw our room key at them. “Here, you guys take our room tonight. I actually booked us another room at the same hotel, a room with a jacuzzi tub.”

“See you guys in the morning! Or maybe afternoon.”

Now, it was Asami’s turn to pull me quickly through the crowd of people who were still congratulating us.

Once we made it onto the monorail, both of us were quivering with anticipation. “I can’t believe we both had the idea to propose to the other tonight.”

“But I proposed first.”

“You also answered first.”

We laughed as she leaned into me. “I can’t wait to be your wife. I love you”

This was for sure a magical trip.

“I love you too, Asami.”

Notes:

This is it! The main story may have concluded, but I am planning to possibly continue it if inspiration strikes again.

Thank you so much for all who have followed along. I had a lot of fun writing this as I love going to Disney World when I can. Please let me know what you think of the ending!
