When we first saw each other , we were both covered
You in red and I in black
But later , as we both discovered
We both had something the other lacked
From you , I confess , I thought it was the finery
The cashmere and silks , the riches and pageantry
It was an act at first , I was just playing a part
But like that red silk , you nestled straight to my heart
Yes , you showed me your riches , but you also showed me more
Love and kindness , the likes of which I’d never knew before
When my demons reared their ugly heads , I hid myself deep below
You followed me down and though I could have left you for dead
You gave me your hand to hold
You saved me , Stede , from that dark abyss
With every loving word and every tender kiss
With every glass of whiskey and cup of tea sweet
You stripped that monster bare and made it retreat
