Summary
“ — leave me a message, and I’ll probably listen to it at some point. ‘Kay!”
There’s a moment of silence before the beep, and Stede wishes he could stretch it out. He loves Ed so much. So much. It’s just barely dark outside. Ed must be making dinner. Stede asked for pasta, earlier. Distantly, he wonders if the water’s boiling.
Something clarifies in Stede’s mind, slotting into place. He’d hate to ruin Ed’s meal. As the phone sharply beeps, Stede presses down harder on his stomach.
“Ed, darling,” He starts. He wants to cry. He thinks he might already be. Ed’s the darlingest man who has ever set foot on this earth. “I don’t think I’m going to be home— hmm.” His stomach hurts. “I don’t. I don’t think I’m going to be home in time for supper. I’m sorry. I just might be a little bit late. Sorry. I love you, Ed."

Summary
“Ed, darling. I don’t think I’m going to be home— hmm. I don’t. I don’t think I’m going to be home in time for supper. I’m sorry. I just might be a little bit late—”
Ed saves the message. He wipes his eyes with the hand he holds his phone with, not wanting to let Mummy see him cry.
“See? He’s perfectly fine," he tells her. She looks up at him with eyes like galaxies. "Just you and me for dinner tonight, though.”
Mummy meows.

Summary
the general consensus seems to be, kill the wasp. that’s humane. it takes away the pain. i look at the wasp. it looks at the stars.
“freeze it, drown it, crush it,” are the machines suggestions. my room has no freezer, and i have nothing to drown it in.
i do, though, have a slipper.

Summary
Ed stands in front of the mirror and puts his hands on his belly. There’s nothing there, really. Just the pudge of comfort, of settling down. He purses his lips at the picture he makes. A man longing for something he can’t have.

Summary
Stede walks Ed back to his quarters, Ed’s arm slung over his shoulders. He can feel the heat radiating off of him, can smell the deep warmth of his jacket and his skin.
They don’t talk much as they walk. Ed had laughed when Stede stabbed him, had coached him through pulling the sword free, and then he’d gone silent. Stede was expecting jokes, or at least reassurance that he was fine, but when Stede asked, all he got was a small, tight nod.
The silence is companionable, at least. Stede isn’t going to break it.

Summary
It's the late 90s. Stede, a senior in high school, takes a job at a local fast food franchise to earn some cash, hoping to make it out without his father's help. His trainer at work, Ed, wants to escape too. Maybe together they can get somewhere. Anywhere is better.
They'll get out, sure. But they have a whole lot to learn.
Childhood friends to lovers who don't talk about it to strangers to lovers, basically. Some angst, but hopefully balanced.
Thrilled to say this has been podfic'd by Lindie, the best who ever done it. Link here.

Summary
In the middle of it all, seated alone at a small table, there’s a man. Stede notices him right away—or, rather, he notices how handsome the man is, the way anybody does when they see someone they think is attractive. Which is to say, he doesn’t do a double take, but it’s a close approximation, and his eyes, drawn against his best judgment, keep finding their way back to the man for just one more look, just to see if he’s as beautiful as Stede’s quick glances said he was.
