he had known from the very moment she had told him about their child, that it would be a girl. the thought of having someone as precious and beautiful as his wife, created by him and his wife, made him so happy.
heo yeom and master lee confirming it had made him cry. he was grateful for a lot of things in his life but nothing would ever compare to cho yeong and her carrying their baby.
“you’re still so pretty, even when you cry” he teased, whipping her cheeks
“i’m not a child” she pouted but he knew she secretly basked in the attention.
“young master jang?”
glancing towards the entrance, they saw heo yun-ok and her maid, sun-i. if cho yeong wasn’t so happy and overwhelmed, she might’ve rolled her eyes at them. jang uk had told her they could have a doctor come to the house but she wanted to go out for a bit and a visit to sejukwon wasn’t out their way either.
“what brings you here?” she asks
“your grandfather” jang uk says, “he wanted to see the progress of our baby”
sun-i rolled her eyes, suppressing a scoff. she still annoyed cho yeong but she was hardly worth the time.
“lady buyeon, the pregnancy weight looks good on you” yun-ok says, smiling as she looked over at cho yeong.
“it does” she agreed, “you’ll experience it too when you eventually find yourself a husband”
with that, she took her husbands hand and left the infirmary. she was annoyed but she wasn’t worried about the comment, more about the fact that she still couldn’t read the wrong or take a hint.
“i don’t like her” she says
“i know” jang uk grins, still giddy from finding out about the gender of their baby.
“there’s rumours that she has a boyfriend” cho yeong scoffs, “she needs to stop worrying about you so much and focus on her own love life”
“i agree” jang uk chuckles, “i have no interest in anyone else but you”
“good” cho yeong half heartedly glares at him before stopping to place a hand on her stomach. her cheeks were an adorable shade of pink.
“we should name her iseul” cho yeong says, “i think it’s fitting”
“iseul” jang uk says a softly, “i love it”
he leans down and holds her face gently, kissing her lips softly. if he could, he’d spend hours kissing her and nothing else.
“let’s go home” she whispers against his lips and tugs on the sleeve of his robe
she glanced in the mirror, grinning as she noticed how much bigger her belly was now. she wouldn’t be able to hide it anymore.
jang uk chuckles quietly, watching from where he was leaning against the doorframe. it was still hard to believe that after everything they went through, they were really here, with a baby on the way. he wasn’t that emotional, but he could feel his eyes sting from unshed tears.
“uk-ah?” she frowns, opening her arms up for him. he immediately hugs her, hiding his face in the crook of her neck.
“i’m sorry darling” he whispers, “i’m okay”
she hums, rubbing his back gently.
“i want to be a better father than my own was” he says, voice uncharacteristically low, “i won’t leave you or her and i’ll be the best for you”
“i know” cho yeong says gently, kissing his ear, “i’ve never doubted you”
“you can’t leave me either” he pouts and she grins, looking up at him as he stands to his full height, “i won’t let you”
“i’m here to stay” she laughs, “we both are”
