Work Text:

Catching Dazai off guard was a near impossible task. Kidnapping him without him catching on first was even harder. Yet, there was someone who wanted to try.

Dazai had just finished another day of annoying Kunikida, and causing general havoc for his co-workers. Heading out to drink because he felt he needed it that evening. He felt like he was being watched, but he was watched so often that he decided it was nothing.

Going to a bar he didn’t even bother to know the name of, Dazai ordered a drink. The first of many for the night.

Several hours later, the former mafia executive was wasted. It wasn’t often he let himself go in public, but it’d been a long day, and he decided this was better than throwing himself in a river. Soaked clothes and bandages always felt unpleasant when he got out of the water.

However, now that he was drunk, he felt like he’d pass out. Knowing there was no way he was making it back to the Agency’s dorms in his current state. So, he pulled out his phone and sent Kunikida a message about where he was. Dazai knew that he’d never leave him there, no matter how tempting that may be.

Tiredly, he mumbled to the bartender that he had a friend coming for him. It seemed to relieve the young man, and he was glad that he wouldn’t be stressing someone who didn’t deserve the stress. Laying his head on the counter, Dazai dozed off, assuming his coworker would arrive soon.

What he didn’t know, was that someone was waiting for him to pass out to kidnap him. Taking advantage of the fact that the bartender thought someone was coming for the drunk man. Just simply scooping him up, and thanking the bartender.

When he woke up, Dazai was groggy. But the feeling of metal chains against bare skin made him aware that he didn’t make it home the night before. Along with the fact that most of his clothes were missing, and his bandages were gone too.

The only thing he’d been allowed to keep was his boxers, and they barely covered him up. Dazai missing the feeling of his coat resting on his shoulders, and wished his bobby pin hadn’t been taken away too. If he had a way to break out, he would, but there wasn’t going to be any luck for him.

Kunikida had gone to the bar, after Dazai had been taken. The bartender looked panicked when he explained that the drunk bandaged man was still supposed to be there. It had been where an investigation started, with Kunikida writing down everything the young man said about the kidnapper.

Then, he forced everyone to wake up because their resident suicidal manic was missing. Most of them assumed that Dazai would be fine, until it was shared that he was drunk when he was captured. That changed the tone of everyone, as he couldn’t properly defend himself in that state.

So, they made a plan to gather as much information as possible, and to try and find where the kidnapper had gone.

“Good to see you awake,” the kidnapper sung out, seeming pleased.

“Who are you?” Dazai didn’t like not knowing who had him in a pinch.

They scoffed, “You murdered my entire family five years ago, ring any bells?”

He wished he did, but his years in the mafia, and before joining the Agency were a blur, “Sorry, I don’t. I just followed orders though, so you can blame Mori for their death.”

“You don’t fucking remember!?” that struck a cord in them.

“My bad memory shouldn’t be something I’m blamed for. I can barely remember what I had for supper two days ago,” he attempted to make them feel better, but it only made it worse.

“Killers like you don’t deserve to forget what you did!” they screamed in his face, before pulling out a gun. “So I’ll make you remember.”

Several bullets were shot into Dazai’s body without warning. Striking his shoulders, and knees, which made him wince slightly. Bullets in joints always hurt more than anywhere else, and he dreaded having them removed. However, his kidnapper was far from done with him…

A few hours passed, with Dazai drifting in and out of awareness. He’d accepted that he deserves this after the first hour, and had decided to let the person before him get revenge. After all his crimes, someone should get the chance to hurt him back.

Comments had been made about his scars, and some had been reopened, which had dragged him further into his mind. Bloody gashes spread over his whole body, and the kidnapper looked so gleeful as they tore into Dazai. Always making sure that the injury would hurt, but not kill.

It was a skill that he hated, but knew that someone punishing him for his crimes should get to put him in pain. Even if he didn’t like the pain, and just wanted it all to stop so badly. Part of him thought that he’d felt enough pain in his life, and that he should be allowed to pass on without anymore. However, that part was pushed down by the part of Dazai that acknowledged how terrible of a person he’d been.

Suddenly, a loud sound dragged him from his thoughts. Blood still dripping down his chest as he watched his friends run in. The kidnapper was arrested, and the chained were broken, only for Dazai to fall like a broken doll. He hadn’t lost enough blood to be in danger, but the pain, and his dark thoughts, made him weak.

Atsushi picked Dazai up, while a warm blanket was wrapped around him. Tiredly, he reached out, babbling what he believed sounded like nonsense. Trying to ask where his coat was, so he could be wrapped in that. Somehow, Kunikida understood, and brought the tan coat over to him, watching as Dazai hugged it to his chest.
