“I saved a piece for you.”
Will thanked the cab driver as he got out of the car and looked up at Hannibal's house. Most of the lights were off except for the one on the porch, and the front room. He ran a hand through his hair as he made his way up the steps and used his key, and he still wasn’t sure to saying that.
His key.
To unlock the door and step inside.
It was quiet and at first glance one could hardly tell that a party had taken place only a few hours ago. But there were a few lingers white gloves, and a mink stole in the closet a guest had forgotten.
He saw a couple of champagne flutes lingering on the table in the foyer.
Will felt a little guilty that he hadn’t been there, after he told Hannibal that he would. He had been all ready to go, even brought the nice suit Hannibal had bought him for the occasion so he could change on campus and then come straight to the party.
But a few of his students had found him and they had questions about the upcoming exam and somehow it turned into an impromptu study session. And the time had gotten away from him.
He did manage to send Hannibal an apology text, the man had seen it, but hadn’t responded. Will figured he was busy entertaining.
He hung his coat in the closet, and left his shoes before making his way to the kitchen in search of food. He grabbed the champagne flutes on the way and figured he’d at least wash them. He was both surprised and not surprised to see the light already on and Hannibal at the sink.
“I figured you’d be in bed by now,” Will said.
“I wanted to wait up for you,” Hannibal replied. “Ah, thank you, I knew I hadn’t miscounted.” He accepted the flutes Will had brought with him.
“I’m sorry about the party,” Will apologized.
“It’s quite alright Will,” Hannibal looked at him. “You were shaping the young minds of tomorrow, I will never hold that against you.”
Will looked at the counter. “But I told you I would be here and…I wasn’t…”
Hannibal turned off the sink and dried his hands as he came around the counter and wrapped an arm around Will’s waist, pressing a kiss to his temple.
“Really Will, I am not upset,” Hannibal assured him.
He reached up and brushed a stray curl from his forehead and squeezed his hip. “Are you hungry? I made sure to set aside a plate for you and I saved you a piece of the chocolate raspberry gateau.”
“That sounds great,” Will smiled a bit and nodded. “And you can tell me about how the party went.”
“Have a seat and I’ll warm it up for you,” Hannibal told him.
