Chapter 1: Aizawa’s Announcement…

Chapter Text

”Alright class, settle down!” Aizawa directed, taking his spot at his podium facing the class, “As you know, heroes have responsibilities that don’t always simply include fighting off villains.”

His gaze seemed directed pointedly at Bakugou.

“This week, we will be taking time off from heroics to do some volunteer work. We are going to visiting and cleaning up an orphanage in the poorer part of town.”

Katsuki perked his head up. He couldn’t possibly be talking about-

“The orphanage is called Minashigo’s Home For Children.”

Crap crap crap, Katsuki thought, how am I gonna get out of this one?!

Little did his classmates know, Katsuki Bakugou was an orphan. His parents had died in an accident shortly after his twelfth birthday. Not even stupid Deku knew. It was one of Katsuki’s most closely guarded secrets.

He just didn’t want to appear weak.

He didn’t need anyone’s stupid pity. Katsuki Bakugou was strong.

”This is a required activity.” Aizawa stated before Bakugou could even raise his hand.

Well shoot.

It’s not like I can come up with a believable excuse in time.

“We will visit around first period tomorrow. You are dismissed.”

“Woah! Isn’t this project so manly, dude?” Kirishima fist bumped Bakugou’s shoulder.

“Shove off, dumb hair.”

Kaminari laughed, “I have to admit, Bakugou doesn’t seem like the best person for this job! Have you ever seen him handling children? Todoroki said you were terrible with kids!”

Katsuki groaned. He bet Kaminari would be shocked to learn that Bakugou basically took care of 27 kids everyday after school. There was a reason Bakugou wasn’t staying at the dorms this semester. Their caretakers were, put lightly, neglectful.

Katsuki was one of two teenagers at the orphanage.

He and a fourteen year old girl named Mirai Yamada cooked, cleaned, and did the laundry at the at the orphanage. They even homeschooled those who their caretakers refused to send them to school.

Of course, some of the older kids helped out some, but Katsuki and Mirai were basically the “parents” of the group, even if Bakugou had only been at the Home for three-and-a-half years.

”Hey, bro? You good? You kind of spaced out there, buddy.”

”I’m friggin’ fine.” Just gotta figure out to keep my secret safe. Even if I somehow don’t end up going, the kids will probably end up asking about me, since they’ll recognize my school uniform as the one being worn by my classmates.

He followed the self-proclaimed Baku-squad back to the Heights Alliance dorm building, and then departed to ride the train back to the orphanage.

Maybe it wasn’t all bad? Sensei did say did they would be assisting the orphanage, and heck knows they needed it.

“Katsuki-kun is home!” A high pitched female voice cheered as Bakugou hung his bag up by the door.

”Hi, Sakura-Chan. How was your day?” Katsuki guessed his friends would howl if they saw his attitude with these kids.

”It was so cool!!! Mirai-Chan taught me how to make cookies today! We made a whole bunch! Try one!”

A cookie was then promptly shoved in the teen’s mouth.

”Guess what else!” The excited seven-year-old exclaimed.

”What?” He choked on the cookie.

”Akihito got his quirk today! He can change the color of any object he touches!”

This sounds problematic. The caretakers will flip if the furniture starts turning orange or some crap.

“That’s awesome, Sakura!”

When Katsuki entered the shabby living room, he was promptly swarmed by masses of excited children.

”Looks like someone’s popular today!” Mirai giggled at the sight or the explosive teen being dogpiled by small children as she cradled a baby in her arm.

Mirai and Katsuki behaved like a traditional couple. Mirai was like the housewife, taking care of the kids while Bakugou was at UA. She took online school so she could stay at home. He would often tell her that he could skip days so help out if necessary, but she insisted that all was well; she could handle herself. The ten and eleven year olds did most of the babysitting anyway.

So, Bakugou headed to the kitchen to make dinner, as per usual on weekdays. Sakura put on cartoons on the TV.

We’re almost out of food. I’ll have to get some more.

Cheap ramen noodles it is, then.
