Seokjin was 10 when the creator of the universe introduced him to Jungkook. Seokjin still remembers the first time he saw the young boy. His big eyes, mouth a little open with white bunny ears sticking out his head. Both were initially terrified of each other but it was the norm, every celestial being gets a hybrid companion & with Seokjin being the Moon he got a rabbit. The planet Seokjin was assigned to was planet Earth. He knew his companion came from there too. From what Seokjin understood Jungkook was from a special tribe of bunny hybrids who for centuries had been chosen as companions for the Moon. It was considered lucky to be the chosen one. Still it was awkward leaving two kids by themselves because that’s what happened. The creator said “Here’s your companion.” And ✨poof✨ he was gone.
“Hi I’m Seokjin.” Seokjin said waving at Jungkook & the little boy started crying, big, fat tears fell from his eyes & then to Seokjin’s amazement Jungkook too went ✨poof✨ & now Seokjin was looking at a bunny, pure white with the most beguiling eyes, a pink nose & a tiny tail. Seokjin could only guess that the bunny missed home but he didn’t know how to help. So he gathered the little fluff ball in his hands & brought him close to his face, rubbing his cheek against the bunny’s cheek saying, “It’s okay bun. We’ll be okay.”
As the Moon Seokjin had a lot to do, a lot to learn too. He had to understand how he affected the Earth & the tides. He had to learn what the different phases meant. He had to learn how eclipses worked. However since he was still young he could take some time to himself & so he made it his mission to make Jungkook more comfortable. He made Jungkook a special room in his Moon palace. He showed Jungkook where to find the space carrots. He designed a play pen. All this only took a week but Jungkook still stayed in his bunny form. Seokjin didn’t mind, as long as he had the bunny with him he could talk for the both of them.
Seokjin also had the ability to go space hopping, though for now he could only travel short distances since he had little legs. So on his first space hopping mission he fashioned himself a suit with a big pocket on his chest where he put the bunny before securing him in. He then locked eyes on his target & began hopping. The closest star was actually not a star, it was the planet Venus. Turns out the “evening star” is actually Venus & my goodness it stunk! Since he was a celestial being Seokjin was unaffected by the noxious fumes & Jungkook was blessed with that ability as well though he still twitched his nose in disapproval making Seokjin laugh. Upon landing Jungkook burrowed into Seokjin’s neck, wanting to breathe in Seokjin’s clean scent. Seokjin, who was already horribly endeared by Jungkook, patted his little bottom saying, “It’s okay bun. We’ll be okay.” As they began exploring they bumped into another celestial being, Jimin & his companion, a hare hybrid called Namjoon.
As Seokjin & Jimin got acquainted, so did Jungkook & Namjoon. Turns out Namjoon was an indigenous species who actually wasn’t supposed to be Jimin’s companion but Jimin had found him injured & chosen him over whatever the creator was going to offer him. “What do you think they are talking about?” Jimin asked Seokjin as the two looked at their companions who were both in their hybrid forms. “Are they even talking? I don't hear anything.” Seokjin said since he only noticed their noses twitching & nothing else. “Can’t you hear the chirping? Maybe you got moon rocks in your ears!” Jimin said laughing & soon enough Seokjin joined him too.
Jungkook was initially very sad because he missed Earth even though he was told for all his short life that he was meant to be the Moon's companion. He’d lost his parents when he was 3 but he still had friends he left behind. Now as he looked at how happy Namjoon seemed he wondered if it was really all that bad. Namjoon in his hare form was gray, he was a lot bigger & robust. While Jungkook’s ears would eventually flop over, Namjoon's ears stood up straight. Jungkook didn’t know how it happened but all of a sudden ✨poof✨ he was in his human form & watching him transform made Namjoon transform too. “You seem so happy. Don’t you miss your folks?” Jungkook asked Namjoon. “My folks are dead. Jiminie is all I have. Also as his companion he’s all I’ll ever want. Don’t you feel that way with Seokjin-ssi?” Namjoon had asked. “Um…” Jungkook began but then Seokjin & Jimin emerged.
Seokjin paused on seeing Jungkook in his human form & Jungkook wasn’t sure if that was a flash of pain he saw in Seokjin’s eyes. “Oh he’s adorable!” Jimin said as he ran to Jungkook, taking his face in his hands, squishing his cheeks. “Too bad you’re leaving!” Jimin continued but Seokjin smiled saying “I’m leaving. But if Jungkook is comfortable here he can stay.” “Oh really? That’s awesome!” Namjoon said but Jungkook wasn’t happy. He didn’t like the feeling in his stomach. Seokjin was still smiling but his eyes were sad when he said, “I’ll come visit you bun. Have lots of fun.” After which he turned around & walked away.
Seokjin felt horrible. Maybe he made Jungkook uncomfortable. Wasn’t that why Jungkook stayed in his bunny form while with him? This was good. Seokjin had seen how Jungkook was with Namjoon. Maybe he’d be happier here. Seokjin was yanked out of his thoughts when he felt a little hand in his own. When he looked to his side Jungkook was walking with him. Big eyes looking at him curiously. “Hyung will be okay, bun. You can stay. It’s okay. We’ll be okay.” Seokjin said but Jungkook moved forward, placing his head on Seokjin’s chest before shaking his head side by side. “Okay then let’s go home.” Seokjin said to which he got the prettiest smile that made him smile as well. Jungkook then took a deep breath & ✨poof✨ he was a bunny again. It was when they landed back that Jungkook did it again, deep breath & ✨poof✨ he was human again & for the first time he said, “Hi. I’m Jungkook.”
That was 20 years ago. 20 years brought about a lot of changes. It wasn’t all fun & games being the Moon. Seokjin had to go to school on Mars to learn about what his role entailed. Turns out so did Jungkook. Jimin & Namjoon were regular visitors & as they got bigger & stronger they began space hopping together as four. Visiting various stars & asteroids & other smaller planets. Jumping on various meteorites, hurtling through space debris. They met other celestial beings from around other Moons & stars & Jungkook met other companions too. Jungkook had grown up to be tall & muscular, he’d gotten so strong that eventually as he hopped about he would make craters appear! “You’re sure you’re not a kangaroo in disguise?” Seokjin used to tease him while Jungkook would show him his tongue while pouting. Still he was Seokjin’s adorable “Bun”. Still with those big eyes, cute button nose, petal like lips, soft cheeks, bunny smile & of course his floppy ears & cotton puff of a tail. Seokjin for his part was breathtakingly handsome. Tall, lean with wide shoulders, perfect face with gorgeous eyes, a regal nose, plush plump lips, apple cheeks & the most charming smile. Jungkook always thought he glowed & honestly Seokjin left sparkly Moon dust all around him. Seokjin & Jungkook’s relationship had evolved to that of being best friends. It wasn’t always easy, they fought & didn’t speak to each other for weeks at times but both couldn’t stay away for too long.
“Are you going to tell him you’re in love with him?” Jimin asked Seokjin when the Moon couple had gone to visit Venus a week before Jungkook’s birthday. “I…I want to but I don’t think he sees me like that.” Seokjin said as he thought about how close he & Jungkook really were but still how there was so much left unsaid. “Really? That bunny cannot stay without you. He can’t even sleep without you. Tell me where is the confusion?” Jimin asked. Seokjin scowled before saying “We share a bed.” “And cuddle” Jimin interrupted. Seokjin’s scowl deepened “Yes we cuddle” “A lot” Jimin interrupted again. “May I speak?” Seokjin deadpanned. “We share a bed & yes we cuddle - a lot - but still I’m scared that if I tell him I’m in love with him he’ll feel obligated to say yes because he’s my companion.” Seokjin said as Jimin just looked at him. “Hyung you have to try. I was scared too you know? But look at Namjoonie & I now. I could never think of loving anyone else.” Jimin said & Seokjin understood that. “I’ll ask him after his birthday. I don’t want to ruin that. Anyway I’ll go find him it’s time to leave.” Seokjin said, giving his friend a quick hug.
“So you love Jiminie hyung?” Jungkook asked Namjoon in awe. “You don’t love Jin hyung?” Namjoon asked. Jungkook reached out for his ears, holding them over his blushing cheeks while smiling at his shoes. “Yes I do.” He said. “Well then tell him!” Namjoon encouraged, “I want to hyung but before I tell him anything - one last time - I want to go back to Earth & see my friends & visit my parents. I still miss them.” Jungkook said & Namjoon could understand. Jungkook had told him how even though they were dead he wanted to tell his parents' about Seokjin & ask for permission to marry him. It would be of sentimental value to Jungkook.
A few feet away Seokjin hid behind a tree. “Jungkook still misses Earth.” Is all that he had understood. Oh he’d been so selfish.
Jungkook noticed how Seokjin had gotten quiet since they got back to the Moon . Always busy with his books, trying to find something. “Hyung, aren't you coming to sleep?” Jungkook asked, tapping his feet as he saw Seokjin rummage through some 15 books in their mini library. “You go to sleep, bun. I’ll come later.” Seokjin said distractedly. Jungkook was not having it so he changed to his bunny form hopping to Seokjin. But Seokjin hadn’t noticed too lost trying to find something in his books, so Jungkook pawed his legs gently & Seokjin looked down, smiling at him. Even though Jungkook was heavier Seokjin was still strong enough to pick him up & tuck him by his neck. He soothed his fingers on Jungkook’s head & back while humming a tune, soon enough Jungkook was fast asleep. When Seokjin felt his body loosen & get sleep heavy he placed a gentle kiss on the bunny’s head saying “You’re going to have the best birthday ever. I’m going to make sure that you’re happy. I’m so sorry that I’ve been so selfish.”
Soon it was Jungkook’s birthday. Jimin & Namjoon had come to visit & so had a few other neighborhood Moon s & planets & their companions. There was a little party, & everyone got Jungkook something or the other as a gift but Jungkook was still waiting for Seokjin’s. It was after everyone left when it was just the four that Seokjin finally presented Jungkook his present, he snapped his fingers & had Jungkook covered in a spacesuit, & then said an enchantment in a language Jungkook had never heard off & there was a Moon beam that formed right from where Seokjin was standing going straight to Earth. “What is this?” Jungkook asked, amazed. “It's your birthday present.” Seokjin replied. “What kind of present is this?” Jungkook asked, examining the beam. “When you sit down on this Moon beam, it’ll take you straight home to Earth.” Seokjin replied. Something about the word “home” didn’t sit right with Jungkook, but he was very very excited to analyze that. “You mean I can go meet my friends? I can go see my parents?” Jungkook asked excitedly, hopping around. Seokjin smiled, saying “Yes”. Jungkook paused, concern showing in his big eyes before saying, “But I don’t want to leave you alone hyung.” Seokjin walked up to him, taking his face in his hands, placing a kiss on his forehead, pushing his hair behind, gently touching his floppy ears, before saying “Hyung will be okay, bun. It’ll be okay. We’ll be okay.” “How do I come back though?” Jungkook asked, Seokjin smiled saying “When you’re ready, I will know.” “So do I just climb on & slide down?” Jungkook asked. “Yes, it’s safe I promise you.” Seokjin said, sighing but Jungkook again was too excited to notice. It had been 20 years since he had seen earth. So he quickly gave Jimin & Namjoon a hug before giving Seokjin an exceptionally long hug going on his tippy toes to give Seokjin a kiss on the cheek. “When I come back I have something very important to tell you.” Jungkook told Seokjin who nodded his head before pulling Jungkook into another tight hug, placing a kiss on his forehead & helping him climb on the Moon beam. “Goodbye my bun. Close your eyes now.” Seokjin said before he started saying the enchantment again. Jungkook could feel that he was moving & then all of a sudden just like that he could feel grass under him, between his fingers. He opened his eyes, he was on Earth.
Back on the Moon Jimin & Namjoon watched as Seokjin stopped saying the enchantment. They watched as the Moon beam slowly disappeared. They watched as the tears fell from Seokjin’s eyes. “So how does he come back?” Jimin asked. “He doesn’t.” Seokjin said & both Jimin & Namjoon were left shocked. However before either could ask what did that mean Seokjin disappeared as well.
“Jungkookah is that you?” Jungkook heard. “Oh my goodness Yoongi hyung?” Jungkook asked as he recognized his old friend. Soon enough Jungkook was reintroduced to his whole fluffle. Everyone kept telling him how handsome he’d gotten, how big he’d gotten, how lucky he was. Majority of who Jungkook knew had already moved away. Yoongi stayed back because his dad, who currently was away on a month long trip, was the high priest of the Moon Temple. Jungkook also got introduced to Yoongi’s mate, Hoseok, another bunny hybrid & was pleasantly surprised when he realized that they had another mate Taehyung. That surprise changed to shock when he realized that Taehyung was actually a wolf hybrid.
“Wait, he's an actual wolf?” Jungkook asked. “A vegetarian wolf.” Hoseok clarified. Even though Jungkook was initially scared he got along with Taehyung like a house on fire. He told the trio all about his life as the Moon bunny & also told them that he was in love with Seokjin. The trio were so endeared they were excited for him even. After a week of coming back Jungkook finally went to see his parents, well their graves. He was watching over their grave site on a full Moon night when he said “Eomma, Appa I’m in love with Jin hyung. He makes me very very happy. He’s taken very good care of me & I’m going to marry him & never let him go. I may not come back ever again & I honestly wouldn’t mind but I wanted to come one last time & visit you. You know I didn’t even tell Jin hyung that & he already knew! I’m so excited for my future. I’m going to go back next week & tell hyung the truth. Please give me your blessings!”
Next week came along & Jungkook went to the open space in the Temple’s veranda & kept concentrating trying to communicate with Seokjin. Telling him that he was ready but nothing happened. Soon it became a group effort. Every night Jungkook, Yoongi, Hoseok & even Taehyung would try & communicate with Seokjin. Sometimes in their human form, sometimes in their bunny form. It was quite a sight because in their bunny form it was a white bunny (Jungkook), black bunny (Yoongi) & brown bunny (Hoseok) who had a gray wolf (Taehyung) curled around them.
It had been a month & Jungkook was getting desperate. Seokjin was his home. Jungkook wanted to go home.
Jungkook was left devastated when the high priest, came back. “Why are you here?” Was the first thing he was asked & when he said that Seokjin had sent him here, the high priest further devastated him by saying that meant, Seokjin had rejected him as a companion & sent him back home. Jungkook never believed that. Seokjin would never reject him! They had been together for so long! There was something wrong. Jungkook was left even more devastated when he was informed that the only person who could take him back to the Moon was Seokjin.
Jungkook tried every night. He would spend hours concentrating, trying to communicate with Seokjin. He researched what kind of radio waves would reach the Moon. He even invested in super strong lasers, attempting to get Seokjin’s attention. Taehyung even began howling at the Moon every night, trying to make enough noise to capture Seokjin’s attention. But nothing seemed to work. Seokjin never responded. Jungkook could never go home.
As much as he did not want to give up, his hope was dwindling. The harder he tried the more he failed. Did Seokjin really not want him? Was he really rejected? How could Seokjin leave him like this? What did he do wrong?
“Eomma, Appa, I love him very very much. Please, I am begging you. Please help me go back.” Jungkook begged at his parents grave as the trio looked at him sadly. It had been 2 years. Jungkook was indeed desperate.
Just then there was rustling in the bushel nearby. Taehyung snarled thinking his trio of bunnies were in danger but then two pointy gray ears popped up. “Namjoon hyung?” Jungkook asked as the hare made himself known before quickly transforming & running straight at Jungkook, pulling him into a tight hug. “Oh my goodness! I am so happy I found you. We’ve been looking for you for so long! You need to come with me now!” Namjoon said. “Where is Jin hyung? Is he okay? I’ve been trying to reach him for so long!” Jungkook exclaimed. “No he’s not okay. He’s on the Darkside of the Moon & really Jungkookah I’ll explain later we need to leave!” Namjoon said. Jungkook quickly introduced Namjoon to the trio before bidding them farewell, just as quickly. Even though they would miss Jungkook they understood that he needed to go. So they wished him well & asked him to come visit with Seokjin the next time before Namjoon took his hand & told him to close his eyes. Soon Jungkook could hear another enchantment in a language he had never heard being recited by Jimin. Just like that they were on Venus.
“It’s you!!!” Jungkook heard & then he was being spun round & round by Jimin who kept chanting, “It’s you! It’s you! It’s you! It’s you!” “Jagiya I know you’re excited but we really need to go.” Namjoon reminded Jimin who snapped his fingers preparing Jungkook’s suit before they space jumped to the Moon . A Moon Jungkook barely recognized. “What happened here?” Jungkook asked. He heard a heavy sigh from Jimin who as they walked towards the Darkside of the Moon explained how after sending Jungkook away Seokjin had just plain disappeared. It had taken the Venus couple six weeks to realize he was on the Darkside of the Moon.
The Darkside of the Moon was a treacherous part of the Moon that had a lot of acidic pools, loose rocks & steep cliffs. It was very very dangerous. Seokjin had not spoken a word, he just was sitting at the highest point looking lifeless & heartbroken. He didn’t answer any questions that Jimin, who had managed to reach him using a flying asteroid, asked. It was only when the couple had a discussion among themselves that they figured Seokjin most probably overheard the tail end of Jungkook & Namjoon’s conversation that day & misinterpreted everything. They had then attempted to retrace all of the steps Seokjin had taken to send Jungkook back to Earth through all his books. They even found the enchantment! However, since they were not from the Moon, they would not be able to use it. Namjoon being the smart hare that he was, began to wonder if there was a Venus alternative & sure enough after months & months & months of research found a similar enchantment that he taught Jimin. However, unlike Seokjin he didn’t know exactly where Jungkook was so he has been trying to find Jungkook all over the world before he finally found him. In the meanwhile, the Moon’s been orbiting the Earth & going through all its phases, but Seokjin was miserable. The Moon was also horribly neglected. The weather was off. There were storms every single day & the Moon palace lay in ruins. It’s like Seokjin had given up without his bunny. He didn’t have the will to survive, but him dying would mean the Moon would implode & he couldn’t do that either because he knew that would have a negative impact on Earth, the same Earth where his bunny was supposedly happy.
They were now at the border of the Darkside of the Moon. “You have to be very careful, Jungkookah.” Jimin warned Jungkook but nothing was going to stop Jungkook from reaching Seokjin so he took a deep breath, twitched his nose & ✨poof✨ changed to his bunny form. He knew this would make it a longer journey & he would be tired but he was going to reach Seokjin by hook or crook. “All the best little bun. We’re rooting for you!” Namjoon said as Jimin & him watched the little bunny hop into the dark.
It took Jungkook about an hour or so to finally locate Seokjin. He was indeed at the highest point however, the path was still too narrow for Jungkook to change to his human form so he kept hopping, hopping & hopping. Even though his paws were hurting & his fur was getting matted & his ears had gotten dirty. At one point he even burnt his little tail because he slipped & fell on a very hot rock. Still he persevered. When he finally reached the ledge Seokjin was just sitting & Jungkook barely recognized his love.
Seokjin was just staring into space. Eyes glossy, lips chapped, just listless. He looked just as handsome as when Jungkook had left, but his hair was longer. Still he just looked lifeless, sad & heart broken. There was enough space & the ledge was stable enough, so Jungkook took a deep breath & changed to his human form. “Hyung” he called out, however, while he watched Seokjin’s eyes move, he didn’t see any other change in his expression. So he did the next best thing: he crawled between Seokjin’s legs & while maintaining eye contact, surged ahead & placed his lips on Seokjin’s lips. Imprinting his petal soft lips on those plump ones he had dreamed about for so long. He then pulled back looking right into Seokjin’s eyes saying, “I came back hyung. I love you. That’s what I wanted to tell you & I don’t ever wanna be without you ever again.”
Seokjin was just looking at Jungkook like he was dreaming. So Jungkook kissed him again & again & again & again. Little pecks that kept getting more & more aggressive. Till he finally dove lower into Seokjin’s neck nipping at his jaw. Now that finally got Seokjin to realize that he wasn’t dreaming. This wasn’t the nightmare he’s been having every single day since he sent Jungkook back. Still he was scared Jungkook would disappear, was he truly here? Just then Jungkook took Seokjin’s hand & placed it on his chest saying, “I’m here hyung. See my heart is beating just for you.” “You’re real!” Seokjin said, crushing Jungkook in a hug, kissing him anywhere & everywhere he could reach. Jungkook was here. In the flesh, his heart beating, his body warm, his bun was indeed back. “I love you so so much.” Seokjin kept saying with tears in his eyes.
“Why did you send me away? Why did you lie?” Jungkook asked in tears as well. Seokjin held him tighter saying, “I wanted you to be happy. I thought you weren’t happy here. I thought in my selfishness of having a companion I forgot that you may not want to be here. You may want to be on Earth.” Jungkook then proceeded to nip at Seokjin’s jaw once more, harder this time saying, “I only wanted to go back to tell my parents that I was in love with you not because I miss Earth. You are my family. You are my home. You are the love of my life. I don’t know anything other than you. How could you think I would be able to live without you?” Seokjin then took Jungkook’s lips in a deep kiss before saying, “I love you too. I love you so much. Every minute away from you felt like my heart was being ripped to shreds. I’m so sorry for doing this. For hurting you, for hurting us. I promise I will never ever ever do anything like this again.” “Good. Let’s go home please. I've missed being in your arms.” Jungkook said as they both stood up. Seokjin snapped his fingers & they were at the palace.
However since it was in ruins they couldn’t really stay there. So instead they went to Venus where they were happily welcomed by Jimin & Namjoon, who were also in tears on watching how lovingly the Moon couple held each other.
Seokjin & Jungkook rebuilt the palace, spending days & nights laughing, arguing, kissing & loving each other the way they should have years ago. A few months later Seokjin & Jungkook went to Earth. Where Seokjin met the trio who he immediately grew fond of. With their help he proposed to Jungkook & even asked his parents’ graves for permission.
The Moon couple had 3 ceremonies. First on Earth since Yoongi, Hoseok & Taehyung couldn’t visit the Moon. Second on Venus which was organized by Jimin & Namjoon, a more boisterous party. Third on the Moon itself where the creator showed up, blessing the couple for millennia to come.
So if ever on full Moon night when the clouds have dissipated you think you see a bunny dancing on the Moon know that he’s dancing in the arms of his husband. Together in love, together forever, the Moon & his bunny. Our Seokjin & Jungkook.
