Chapter Text
The boy stood outside the restaurant, the smell wafering from where he stood with dirt covering every part of himself.
He didn’t remember exactly how he got here, or who he was all he knew was that he was hungry and tired.
The boy wandered into the store the bell ringing softly above him, the smell of food stronger inside than outside.
The place was quite empty except for the man sitting on the stools, typing away on his laptop with a book on the side as he pushed his glasses back up his face.
“Welcome to Pigsy’s, what can I get for you?” Someone asked, the boy tore his eyes off the human and looked to see a pig man staring at him in shock and concern.
Eventually, the man looked over from the silence and gasped at the boy as well before looking at the pig.
“Pigsy what do we do?” He asked quietly, it seemed to snap Pigsy out of his trance looking back at Tang.
“Can you get me that old blanket in the closet? I’m gonna clean him up.” He said grabbing a rag and a bucket of warm water before heading out to the lobby towards the kid.
The boy looked up at him with slight fear before taking a step back, making Pigsy pause for a moment.
“I won’t hurt ya kid, I’m just going to clean you up.” He said softly dipping the rag in the water and motioning for the boy to come closer.
The boy cautiously took a step forward and held out his arm, watching as the pig took it gently wiping away the dirt and grime from it before dipping the rag back in the water repeating what he just did.
The boy relaxed as he moved closer to the pig, letting him clean away the dirt all over his body until the other man returned with a blanket.
“Here I got it, how is he?” He asked with concern looking over the small boy.
Pigsy grunted, “he’s okay I can tell he likes the warm water.”
The other human smiled at the boy before leaning towards him, causing the smaller to squeak and grab onto the pig.
“It’s alright kid, Tang isn’t going to hurt you.”
Tang- the human nodded, “do you have a name little guy?”
The boy looked at him with a confused expression before letting out another noise, the pair took it as a no.
“Do you think he can understand us? He looks young but old enough to talk.” Tang mentioned.
Pigsy sighed as he finished cleaning him up the best he could, “I’m not sure Tang.” He said taking out a red band he had from his pocket before wrapping it around the boy’s head and pushing it up to get the hair out of his face.
He took off his chef jacket before putting the kid in it and buttoning it up and grabbed the blanket wrapping that around his small frame as well.
Pigsy smiled softly at the kid before he heard his stomach grumble loudly.
“Ah.” He said opening his mouth causing Pigsy and Tang to laugh softly at him.
Pigsy gently lifted the boy up and placed him on the stool before going behind into the kitchen grabbing a bowl of noodles to serve him.
He watched as the little boy devoured the first bowl in seconds, as well as spilling most of it on himself, Pigsy still served him another bowl this time he fed the boy himself.
“What are we going to do with him,” Tang said watching them softly.
Pigsy hummed watching the boy happily slurp the noodles from the spoon, “I mean we do have another room that isn’t being used.”
“Do you think we’re ready for this? Raising a kid? What if his actual parents come back for him.” Tang asked worriedly.
Pigsy wiped the boy’s mouth before turning towards him, “I don’t know Tang he doesn’t seem to know or remember anything. There aren’t any cuts or bruises on him it was just dirt. Maybe he was a gift from the Gods.”
“To us?” Tang asked softly.
Pigsy blushed and nodded, “we did want a child a little more than a year ago and he just shows up, it has to be a sign for us.”
Tang smiled, “I guess you’re right, we’re gonna be dads.” He said excitedly.
“Xiaotian,” Pigsy said.
Tang smiled, leaned over, and kissed his husband, “I love it.” He said before looking at the kid- no Xiaotian.
“What about you Xiaotian, do you like your name?” He cooed at him.
Xiaotian laughed in response.
********
Later that night Pigsy properly gave Xiaotian a bath, dressing him in more of his own clothes until they got better ones that fit him better.
After the little family had finished their dinner and cleaned up, Tang and Pigsy sat Xiaotian down on the couch trying to talk to him.
“Xiaotian.” Pigsy called immediately catching the boy’s attention.
“Can you understand us? Talk to us?” He asked.
Xiaotian didn’t reply his face held a confused look.
“Ah.”
Tang sighed, “it’s safe to assume he can’t speak but he does know his name that’s a good start.”
Pigsy nodded with him, “so how do we teach him to talk?”
Tang shrugged, “I don’t know, I’ve never done this before.”
Pigsy narrowed his eyes, “what, do you think I know what to do.”
“Ah.” Xiaotian said again but louder getting the adult’s attention.
Tang smiled at him, “what is it Xiaotian, want to tell us something?” He said encouraging the boy to talk.
Xiaotian stayed silent, yet held up his arms looking right at Pigsy.
Tang nudged him, “I think he wants you.” He said laughing, Pigsy grumbled at his husband before going to pick up Xiaotian.
Xiaotian immediately melted in Pigsy’s hold, making small noises as Pigsy carried him to the main bedroom.
“We really need to fix up the other room for Xiaotian,” Tang said following as he watched the pair lay down with Xiaotian laying on Pigsy’s chest, the elder rubbed his back soothingly.
Pigsy nodded, “we’ll figure it out, we always do.” He said quietly watching Xiaotian fall asleep slowly.
Tang smiled at them before turning on a lamp and getting in bed with the two, watching as his son slept soundly in Pigsy’s hold.
“You really are a great dad,” Tang mumbled, Pigsy chuckled and leaned over giving him a quick kiss before the two fell asleep.
The days following were spent getting clothes, and furniture for their son while looking up ways to teach young kids to talk, having Xiaotian stay from opening till closing at the restaurant was draining on the poor kid who clung to either Tang or Pigsy (although he liked to cling to Pigsy more). Yet they managed.
The following weeks had things improve so much. Xiaotian’s bedroom was furnished and decorated (even if it was all of their savings, for their son they would do anything). There was a steady balance of managing work, raising Xiaotian, and making time for one another too.
Within the following months, Xiaotian had managed to say his first word, it was the most gracious sound Pigsy had ever heard.
“Come on Xiaotian, Pigsy, you can do it,” Pigsy said holding Xiaotian in his lap, Tang sitting near them reading his book.
“I think the letters in your name might be too hard for him-.”
“D-Dadsy.”
The room fell in silence as Pigsy gaped at Xiaotian who held an innocent smile, Tang looked over in shock too.
“Did he just?”
“I think he did.”
“Da-Dadsy!” Xiaotian said again.
Pigsy let out a laugh and brought his son closer, “yeah kid Dadsy.” He said smiling.
Tang leaned over giving Xiaotian a kiss on his head before giving Pigsy another peck.
“Dada!” Xiaotian said looking at Tang.
The scholar grinned at him, “my sweet little boy.” He cooed.
A year had passed before the couple knew it, the three of them in the kitchen singing Xiaotian happy birthday as Xiaotian giggled blowing out the candles.
“Cake!” He cheered, watching Pigsy cut the cake into small pieces giving a plate to Tang and Xiaotian.
“Happy birthday kid,” Pigsy said hugging him.
They spent the night eating the cake, watching Xiaotian open all his presents seeing his smile grow bigger at each new toy.
*******
Pigsy woke up to the sound of sniffling, making sure Tang was still asleep the other made his way out of his room, glancing he noticed Xiaotian’s door opened. He could hear more sniffling coming from the living room.
He took a peek in, his heartbreaking to see Xiaotian curled up trying to muffle his cries. Going in he sat down next to Xiaotian who jumped in response.
He turned away wiping his eyes, “hi Dadsy.” He said quietly.
Pigsy didn’t need to say much, he brought Xiaotian in his lap rubbing his back, “bad dream?”
Xiaotian shook his head, “it’s just- why don’t I look like you only Dad?”
Pigsy sighed, “I’m a pig demon kid, you and Tang are humans, plus you’re our adopted son, I’ve told you this before.”
Xiaotian nodded, “I know, I just wish I knew where I came from.”
Pigsy nodded, “whoever gave up a gem like you is a loser in my opinion, you’re my son and I love you no matter what.”
Xiaotian nodded and cuddled up against Pigsy who turned the TV on to help soothe Xiaotian more.
“Monkey King the Animated Series?” Pigsy said confused.
Xiaotian gasped and sat up seeing the golden monkey on the screen, immediately engrossed in the show.
“MK.” He said.
Pigsy looked at him confused.
“It stands for Monkey Kid, I wanna be the Monkey Kid or MK.” He explained.
Pigsy smiled, “sure MK whatever you want son.” He said.
******
“Alright MK are you ready.” Pigsy asked looking down at his son, they were in the shop and Pigsy deemed it time MK learn the art of making noodles.
MK nodded and smiled, “yes Dadsy!”
Pigsy smiled and took off his chef’s jacket before putting it on MK, “every chef needs their own jacket and right now you are chef MK.”
MK giggled before he went and washed his hands, “first we uh chop the vegetables!”
Pigsy nodded watching him closely making sure the knife didn’t get too close to his son’s fingers.
MK set aside the vegetables, “now we boil the water and roll out the dough.” He said filling a small pot with water before turning it on the heat.
Grabbing the dough from where it rested, he rolled it out, taking some flour to make it less sticky before taking the knife and cutting strips of the dough to be made. Most of them coming out uneven.
Pigsy grinned, “good job kid, you’re doing great.” He spoke.
MK gave him a thumbs up before finishing the dough, he added a tiny pinch of salt to the water before adding the dough to the water.
MK hummed adding the cut-up vegetables as well, before shaking in some other spices as well as being extra careful not to spill them.
“And now what Xiaotian?”
“Now we wait while stirring occasionally!”
Pigsy nodded in approval, making sure none of the heat touched him.
Not long after the noodles were ready to be done, MK turned off the stove grabbing a ladle and bowl, he scooped the food into the bowl accidentally spilling some broth over the stove.
He gently brought the bowl over to Tang who watched them the entire time, “order up!” MK said.
Tang smiled, “thank you chef MK.” He said taking a bite, the noodles were a bite undercooked and the vegetables were overcooked, the spices did add a nice taste though.
“This is delicious MK,” Tang said before giving some to Pigsy to taste.
“You did real good today kid.” Mk giggled and smiled at them.
Pigsy poured another bowl while Tang set up his camera going back to the kitchen.
MK standing at the bar table holding the plate of noodles, with Tang on one side of them and Pigsy on the other, the camera flashed as it captured the photo of the family.
Pigsy smiled at it putting it in their photo album.
‘Little Chef MK’.
