Comfort

Summary:

Reki needs a hug and Joe is just there

Or, Reki hugs Joe instead of asking about the trick he did.

Aka part two of me projecting on my kins and Anonymous posting so my sister doesn't get a notification. Might take it out of the collection and make it a series eventually.

Notes:

Look I always need a hug, Reki needs a hug this works out! Also, I’ve been wanting Joe to comfort Reki because Joe is the best and I think Reki and he should have talked more because Joe would be a good listener.

Work Text:

Reki hated this feeling. The feeling of needing physical comfort. He liked hugging people, sure, but not when he felt like this. Not when he actually needed a hug. It was so stupid, “needing” comfort. He shouldn't need comfort. He’d much prefer to just hide away in his room or in the shed and any other time he would do just that except right now he was on another island with the rest of his friend group.

Reki turned a corner to see Joe talking to a woman. She must have noticed him because she turned and left. Joe pushed himself off the railing he was leaning against, “ah man, you’ve got the worst timing ever.” Joe said but he didn't sound angry about it, disappointed maybe. Reki stared at the ground as he walked over to the older man. “What's going on?” Joe asked, voice soft.

Reki stopped in front of Joe, not meeting his eyes. No one else was around and Joe always seemed very approachable. Reki didn't let himself think about it, just took one last step forward and leaned his head on Joe. The green-haired skater made a surprised sound but wrapped his arms around the boy. “What's going on?” Joe asked again. Reki didn't answer, just closed his eyes melting into the warmth. Joe seemed to get the message, gently rubbing Rekis back before moving his hand up to run his fingers through Reki’s hair.

Eventually, Reki pulled away, giving Joe a small smile. He didn't want to talk, and even if he did, he didn't have the words to explain what was wrong. So for now, he walked past Joe to rejoin the rest of the group.
