Chapter Text
Danny wasnt expecting his trip to Gotham to be very exciting. Between all the ghost and science conventions his parents dragged him to, and all the crime, he wasnt expecting to have the best time. Even with this girlfriend with him.
That is, before he discovered that gotham is basically a candy house.
A candy house full of very dangerous chemicals that would probaly kill anyone but Danny.
Its not like he just decided to eat random chemicals. It was really a total accident that he found out he even could. It all starts with a Joker attack. Like any good story.
Danny had finally gotten some free time so he decided to spend it where any good space nerd spends his free time. The observatory. Val decided they would meet back up later as she wanted to visit a local food chain. Who would have known the Joker would decide to attack at the same time Danny was there?
Danny should've, it was just his luck he wouldn't catch a break. Espessially not in a place like Gotham.
He had just gotten through viewing a simulation of a star dying when it happened. First came the explosion. Then the screaming. Quickly followed by maniacal laughter. Danny, ever the hero, decided to head closer to the chaos. He didn't transform, too many people around. It wasn't like he had a plan either. He just reacted.
Next thing he knows theres a canaster of something hitting him right in the face.
He fell back and hes sure if anyone was paying attention itd be embarrassing. But everyone was too busy running away. Actually he was the weird one for moving towards the chaos. But old habits die hard as they say.
The first thing he noticed is that something tasted good. Like really good. The first thing he should've noticed was the pain from whatever hit him breaking and getting glass all over his face. But no. Whatever was in the canister tasted so good, danny was on cloud 9.
It was sweet with a bit of a sour taste to it. Like a warhead candy with much more power to it. It also gave him the giggles. But too danny it wasn't so bad. In fact he was starting to crave more.
So he decided to get up. As he cleared the glass out of his eyes, he put his attention back on the chaos. Right, Joker attack, he could focus on the good tasting stuff later. The clown was throwing more of that what he realised was Joker Venom at people.
Unfortunately it seemed like he was the only one who could appreciate the taste, as everyone else started collapsing on the spot, laughing painfully.
So yeah, not good, and Danny just discovered a cool new power at a really inconvenient time.
Seeing as how no ones eyes were on him he hid behind a pillar and transformed. If Valerie was there she would have chewed him out for leaving himself so exposed. But beggars cant be choosers and hopefully she'll never know. He's pretty sure the people on the ground are dead but he hoped he'd be able to at least prevent more.
And then he had a really good, but also terrible idea.
Joker had a bag of the stuff.
Danny could eat it without problems.
Surely you can tell where this is going.
Danny made himself invisible, hoping to take him by surprise. Before he got anywhere though the Bats showed up. That was ok, they distracted the Joker while danny continued to reach for the bag. He grabed it and then decided that the Bats had it handled so he went to a hidden corner to de-transform.
For a brief moment Danny thought he should get into more Joker attacks, before reminding himself that was an awful idea. Worse than his idea of drinking Joker Venom. But as he drank the Joker Venom he thought,
'Well drinking it is turning out ok..'
One thing he forgot about as he drank, was that he laughed while drinking it. He got through half the bag before he noticed he had company.
"What the fuck."
Startled, Danny choked on the Joker Venom he was drinking. He whipped his head around to see Red Robin and Nightwing staring down at him.
Well shit.
"Uhhhhhhh, id offer some but I dont think Y'all would really like it."
Wow Danny real smooth. He at least managed to get a confused laugh out of Nightwing, but Danny decided hed rather not have to answer their questions. So he turned invisible and left, ignoring the exclamations of suprise from the vigilantes. He met up with Valerie. Not thinking about any consequences that encounter may have.

"Don't you dare do it, Danny."
"Ill be fine i've drank Joker Venom after all."
"YOU WHAT?!"
"Oh sorry, forgot to tell you."
What were Danny and Valerie fighting about? Well it all starts earlier that morning.
The day was ordinary enough. Which clearly meant that something was bound to go wrong. Danny had been woken up by Val, and they were going to go eat breakfast at a local café she had found.
"So an everything bagel with cream cheese and hot chocolate for you, and for me ill have an iced coffee with a glazed donut. Sound good?"
"Sounds good to me."
Seemed ordinary enough.
Till scarecrow showed up.
The attack itself was fairly simple. Scarecrow released his fear toxin, people started freaking out from its effects. The Bats showed up, bunch of property got damaged. Including the sign at the cafe they were at. Yknow usual stuff that comes from superheros. Danny and Valerie didnt even have to suit up themselves.
Problem was that there was still quite a bit of fear toxin outside of the cafe. Luckily the only people inside the cafe was Valerie, Danny, and the barista. Actually it was kinda creepy how calm the he was, seemingly used to it.
Then Danny had yet another idea. Which led to their argument.
"C'mon ill be fine." He tried to reason.
"Oh, and you're the expert cuz you drank Joker Venom?" She argued back. Eyebrow raised in a questioning manner.
The barista was doing an amazing job at ignoring what was not doubt a very interesting conversation.
"Ok, fair but I promise ill come back in if I start feeling bad, deal?"
She let out a long suffering sigh but told him, "Fine, just be quick."
"All right! Love ya babe, be sure ta tip good. I'll meet ya back at the hotel ok?"
With a quick kiss goodbye, Danny walked intangibly out the window. As soon as he was outside he took a deep breath. Fear toxin admittedly did not taste as good, or at the very least its flavor was much diffrent than Joker Venom. It had a richer flavor kind of like dark chocolate with a bit more of an earthy taste to it. Of course it also tasted like Fear which was more of an acquired taste.
A taste which danny had grown fond of over the past 4 years. Fear itself had its own unique taste and texture, usually its texture was smooth and sharp. But this Fear was a bit more grainy. Overall a unique taste but it wasn't horrible.
"Are you alright?"
Oh shit it was Batman.
And Robin, oh shit.
