Chapter Text
"Just yesterday, a new villain made their way into town. Nobody knows who he is, or his name, but many witnesses are calling him the Ice King. Colin Orsec, one of the few people who'd witnessed the event, reported that the Ice King froze all citizens in the area before taking the money and leaving them to thaw in the cold bank…"
Jimmy blocked out everything that the news reporter had said, sitting up from his previous (and probably very uncomfortable) position. He was never the kind of person to watch the news, but because of his latest job, it became rather necessary.
"Ice King… so of course, he'd have ice powers…" He mumbled to himself, putting a hand on his chin. "I should probably check it out, shouldn't I?"
He heaved a sigh, standing up and trudging to his room. As he walked through the corridor, Lizzie poked her head through the door of her own room.
"What are you doing, Jimmy?"
"Work. New icey guy. I know nothing about him."
"Ah. Have fun then. Don't die and make sure to return by dinner. Joel's coming over today."
Jimmy nodded, getting into his room and changing into his uniform, a suit similar to Captain America's, only a muted green and lime instead of blue and red, and a large white 'S' instead of an 'A'. He slid on the mask before heading out onto his balcony (he still doesn't know why Lizzie wanted the smaller bedroom) and climbed up the side of his apartment (which wasn't too hard, considering that they live on the top floor). From there, he could see about half of the city. It was pretty normal at the moment, the usual clusters of people walking through the streets, the usual sight of Joel (barely visible though, due to how short he was) making his way to Jimmy and Lizzy's apartment, the usual blur of cyan, gold, and white whipping past, the–
The what?
Jimmy ran to climb down the side of the building (carefully, of course) and chase after the flying cyan-gold thing, doing his best to blend in with the shadows of the alleyways. The thing (person?) eventually reached to a stop, slowing down and landing in front of a jewellery store – one of the city's few jewellery stores that used genuine crystals and gems in their accessories. From there, Jimmy was able to see the figure much better.
They seemed to have light cyan hair (which definitely didn't seem fluffy at all) and large wings as white as snow, with a blue coat and gold edges and some thick, white fluff along the collar, pants that matched their coat, a brown cloth wrapped tightly around their waist, and brown winter boots. They also had a crown on their head, shards of quartz wrapping around the ring of gold. However, since he was coming from behind, he couldn't see their face, but he had to assume it was the Ice King.
There was one thing that really stood out to Jimmy that made him think that, and that is the fact that the winged individual was covered in frost and snow, almost like they were frozen (like the citizens in that bank) .
Jimmy decided to approach slowly. This has to be him , he thought.
And he was right.
The cyanette kicked the store's door open and stretched out a hand towards the store, blasting something at whoever was inside. Getting a bit closer, he could see that it seemed to be some sort of ice blast, freezing the shopkeeper and her customers. And before the Ice King could take another step, Jimmy lunged at him.
The villain yelped, quickly turning to push him away as they both tumbled to the ground. Before he knew it, he grabbed Jimmy's arm and frost immediately started crawling up his sleeve (and his skin too, he could feel it) . Jimmy tried to pull away but couldn't move his arm, instead resorting to pulling some water from the sewers and splashing it on the Ice King's face.
"Eugh! That's gross, weirdo," He whined, vigorously rubbing his face.
Jimmy rolled his eyes, finally pulling his arm away and shaking off the frost to the best of his ability. "That's enough, Ice King."
The Ice King (he really hoped the villain had a different name, he didn't feel like calling him a king constantly) huffed, twisting around and somehow switching spots with Jimmy.
"God, I don't have the energy to deal with this," He groaned, wiping his wet hand on Jimmy's suit to get the water off. "You don't tell me what to do, codboy. What you can do though, is stay there while I take care of some things."
Before Jimmy could respond, a blast of ice was aimed at him, coating him with frost and pinning him down to the road. He struggled in the ice for a bit, breaking through before the ice quickly grew (??) back and kept him down. After a few more attempts, he looked up at the Ice King, expecting a grin on the cyanette's face, only to be met with an incredibly tired expression. Sharp, frosty blue eyes that weren't pretty at all, soft pale skin with not cute freckles littered across his cheeks (which he could barely see due to the golden masquerade mask he wore) , pink, pale lips that definitely didn't look soft and kissable to him. Nope. Not one bit.
"And also, don't call me Ice King," The villain stood up, looking down at him. "Smajor works for me."
He walked into the store, leaving a very cold Jimmy behind on the road. Great.
Jimmy wasn't very sure how he couldn't get out of ice of all things, but at least he knew what to avoid when it comes to the Ice– Smajor next time he encounters him.
"Need some help, Codfather?"
Jimmy immediately whipped his head over to see Lizzie– Empress standing there next to him, in her blue gown and gold trident in hand.
"Please," He pleaded, sighing as embarrassment crept up his gut. "I really don't know how he managed to do this."
Empress chuckled quietly before yanking Jimmy out from under the ice, rising a wordless yell from the blond.
"That hurts, y'know?" He grumbled, shivering and rubbing his arm. "Now, let's deal with Smajor and help the frozen citizens."
She nodded, the two of them rushing into the store. There were three things he noticed.
- It was now incredibly bare of the jewellery it used to have on the shelves and in the display cases.
- The customers and shopkeep were alright and the ice was already melted halfway, so that was good.
- Smajor was gone.
Oh cods. Smajor was gone .
"Uh, Codfather?" Empress smiled nervously, turning towards him. "Where's Smajor?"
"I-I don't know, Empress," He replied just as anxious, turning away from the frost-covered shop. "How could he have been gone already? We'd have at least noticed him leaving!"
"Maybe he had an invisibility potion?"
"Please, the only person who could make one is Amethyst, and she'd never make one for a villain!"
The siblings glanced at the citizens, then back at each other.
"Continue at home?"
"Please."
Unfortunately for them, Joel was already inside their apartment complex. Fortunately for them, Joel was also an idiot when it came to these things, and not only that, but he was also in the kitchen.
The two rushed for their respective bedrooms, changing into more comfortable clothing before popping back into the living room.
Lizzie was the first to speak. "Wow, that new employee, huh? A royal pain, he is."
"Uh– Yeah!" Jimmy stuttered, understanding what she was getting at. "Making so many problems on his second day and leaving before work's over!"
"Damn, he sounds annoying," Joel added. "Anyways, let's eat dinner, I'm starving."
Jimmy nodded, giving a quick glance at Lizzie.
Once dinner's over, they'll need to talk about Smajor.
