Algaliarept was happy to find he was able to walk on blessed land- if it and everything on it was only burnt to a crisp, at least.
He walked casually through the scorched ruins of the church, something cracking underfoot, making Lucy, the energetic blonde elf girl, cover her ears and make a face. Ray, the younger yet strangely more conscious infant, just looked at the ruins about her in a quietly observing way, thumb in her mouth.
He found Rachel Mariana Morgan's body laying in the rubble, only able to give it a cursory once over, being as he was carrying the children- And honestly, couldn't be bothered to do more, when his itchy witch stirred, a cough ripping from her ash-stained throat.
"See darlings? This is what happens when you fail to defang your enemy." He educated the girls sweetly. "Ouch." Lucy proclaimed, driving his point home. Rachel looked up at him, dazed. "Al?" She asked, blinking up at him. "Oh my God, you saved the girls!"
He frowned. "They happened to be standing close to me, is all. Clingy little canniculas."
Her face scrunched up, but before she could burst into tears, or yell at him, or god forbid, make a list of demands, the annoying sound of an elf being alive broke the silence. "Lucy!" Trent Kalamack called, sitting up, dazedly searching the ruins. "Ray! Lucy, oh goddess." He breathed as eyes landed on Al, the demon, at last and the elf children he held. Lucy wriggled out of Al's grasp, and ran to her father faster than the elf could say 'let go of my children you fiend from hell'.
Ray just sat content, drawing in the bits of ash that had accumulated on Al's coat. "Honestly, Rachel," he scolded as she stood up, unblinkingly taking in the annihilation of her home and everything she owned. "You're a demoness. You couldn't shield yourself before the blast hit? Its damn embarrassing-"
Rachel's hand went to her coily red hair, running her fingers through it erratically. "Al. Shut. The. Hell. Up."
Ray sneezed, and Al muttered a word in latin, making little currents of wind blow the ash and debris away from her. The elf giggled a little girl laugh as the wind blew her hair around. He'd be damned if he said he didn't melt a little. He clenched his teeth and looked at Rachel.
"What are you going to do about the vampires?" He asked her. "Please say 'kill them'," He added hopefully. Rachel straightened her back. She was clearly struggling to keep it together. Al leaned in for a bit of goading. "Personally, I like a bit of coffee before I do my killing. I don't think your coffee maker survived, though," he observed.
Rachel looked at him like she was going to clobber him, but then she relented to his brilliant ideas as always and said "Ugh. Yeah..Coffee." she closed her eyes tightly, as if trying to pull herself from her shock. "Let's go wait at Junior's. I'll call Ivy...or...or Quinn…" He smiled. " Marrrvelous!" He purred, hiking Ray up his hip a little and brushing his coat off. Rachel looked around "I need to think. I need…" She looked around. "Bis…" She said thoughtfully. "I need Bis." She went rummaging through the rubble, digging out the stone gargoyle and holding it to her chest. "Okay lets go." She said.
He grinned at her, wondering when she was going to let herself take it all in. He was willing to be a distraction, though. Trent had wandered over. "Wherever you're going, i am too. They almost killed my children, and they will pay for it. You won't get away with just arresting them, Morgan. They will bleed for this." He cut the demon with a look. "And give me Ray." He said to Al.
Al sneered at the elven dewar trash, but handed the baby over. "We're going out." He said. "To plot vengeance over lattes."
Rachel hissed "and you better behave!" just as he grabbed them both, and pulled shields carefully over the girl's minds. He felt his shields being overlapped by Rachel's, and the little look of surprise she gave him right before he yanked them into the lines.
