Work Text:
A heart so full of love. A young soul so pure and innocent. All she knew was the little world of her home, her family. Mama, papa, and ever-so annoying brother.
So perfect, so perfect. It felt so right. It felt so good. It felt good to be happy.
Air whooshing through the front window, something struck through the wall. Something heavy and big. Boom! It went off in a blast. The world turned upside down. Her world turned upside down.
Dust and rubble, rubble and dust. She couldn’t see a thing through black ashes. For two days she and her brother hid and survived.
Mama and papa were long gone. But that was inevitable, right? Parents have to go eventually. She just didn’t think it would be so soon. At least she and her brother were alright. She still had someone. That’s what matters, right? Someone’s still there to look out for her.
An agreement, a deal, a fortress in the mountains.
A doctor, a scientist, a magic gem.
A floating block, a success, a great will of good.
A country she loved, a mission, and a battle to fight.
A group of heroes, a mistake, a new opportunity.
One thing led to another, she wondered how it got to this point. When things took this turn. When did she seal their fate?
“You didn’t see that coming.” A heroic act. One life saved, one life lost. Or so they thought it was just one life that was lost that day. It was two. Two that have always been together all their lives.
They were created together, made together. And so they would be destroyed together, broken together.
She felt it, deep in her heart. A million swords piercing through her heart and her soul and ripped it out. Shattered to pieces, she was left alone. She was all alone. Truly alone, for the first time in her life.
You can glue together shards of broken glass, but try as you might, it can never go back to the way it was. Never again could it be whole and pure, clean without a crease or crack. And everyone could see it. They saw the way it has broken and shattered, and it frightened them. They were afraid. They knew how dangerous broken glass could be. All the sharp and uneven edges could scratch and cut, it may make them bleed.
She found someone. Someone who wasn’t afraid of broken glass. Instead, he admired her cracks, and told her how beautiful they were. They were what made her unique after all.
He loved her so, and she did, too. A beautiful love. One that blossomed and grew when one would least expect it. It seemed odd, but it didn’t matter to them. They were happy. She was happy. At last, she felt whole once more.
A new enemy, a new fight, a new loss.
She didn’t want to do it, she promised this. She had to, didn’t she? She was the only one who could. She was the only one strong enough to. He would tell her that this power she had was a gift, a beauty to be admired. But it had always felt like a twisted curse. She could save the world ten times over, or kill the love of her life.
Her heart was shattered again. Oh, how was that possible? That is unclear. But then again, nothing was ever clear ever again.
It was all a blur. Her love was truly one of a kind, one that created a whole plan for their dream life in a happily ever after. It’s unfortunate that his dream could never become a reality. Or could it?
It wasn’t her fault, it wasn’t her fault. She had no control, it was out of control, she had it all under control. Her control.
What a perfect life she lived. What a happy life she had. She, her husband and two perfect boys. A normal family in a small town. But it wasn’t real. None of it was. It was all just her own power playing tricks on her. All just her mind acting out the scenes she wanted to live. It was as real as her imagination wished it was.
Threats to her home, her family at stake. She only did what any good mother would. Defending her boys and fighting for her family. Somewhere deep in her heart and mind, she knew this was more for her than for them, but she would never admit that.
A battle won, a family lost. Her life was in shambles, she knew this.
How did it come to this? How did someone who loved and was loved end up so alone?
Some would say this was all an origin story, the rise of a hero. Maybe a villain. No, no. It’s none of those. This was all purely a tragedy. A horrible, horrible tragedy.
A girl with a heart so full of love to give. Who loved those around her endlessly. She loved and loved as much as she could. She gave them bits of herself, bits of her heart. She gave and gave, gave so much that there was barely any left of her heart she could keep to herself. But that was alright. It was worth it, wasn’t it?
Struck by a wicked fate, she watched each of them go, and along with them went a piece of her heart. Slowly, they all left her. She had given so much of herself. She had lost so much of herself. She had grieved too much for too many.
The famous saying, “Bite off more than you can chew”, it is exactly what happened. Except, it’s more like she loved more than she could lose.
She loved so much that her grief was just as great. After all, grief is the consequence of love. The price to pay for temporary joy, in return for an everlasting weight on the shoulders. Because that’s what grief is, isn't it? Her pain and loneliness and grief was just all the love she gave persevering.
