A very special day

Summary:

“Paris said you had a good day?”

“She planned the whole day. Look at this,” he said and Pete leaned closer, smiling as he was reading through Paris’ plan. “She said she knew I was feeling down and-and-” started Vegas and Pete gently cupped his face and pressed their foreheads together.

Vegas was overwhelmed.

“Mn,” whispered Pete. Vegas closed his eyes for a split second, feeling Pete’s fingers slowly going behind his neck, gently running through his hair and he smiled.

“Feeling better?” asked Pete and Vegas slowly opened his eyes.

[Vegas has been under a lot of stress lately, so his daughter is determined to cheer him up by planning a day full of fun activities. When Vegas finds out, he gets a little bit overwhelmed.]

Work Text:

Paris noticed that Vegas has been feeling under the weather lately. Papa said that it was due to stress, so Paris decided to do something about it. When she found out that Vegas and her were going to be alone at the mansion in the afternoon as Pete took Venice to the dentist’s, Paris decided to give her best to make Vegas feel better. If there was something that Paris disliked the most was seeing her parents unhappy – in that regard, she was a lot like Venice.

Seeing Vegas smiling again was something that she decided to do! In fact, she made a whole plan for that! She made a list of things that she wanted to do together with Vegas that afternoon and she made sure that she started early. When Vegas was busy finishing up his phone call with Kinn in the living room, she quickly went into Vegas’ office and decided to tidy it up a little bit. That was the first step on her long list of things that she wanted to do that day!

Vegas sighed along when he finally ended the phone call – he was super busy lately. There were some problems that he and Kinn were dealing with for the past few weeks, but it seemed that things were finally calming down and he took a deep breath.

That wasn’t what he should be doing.

Pete was out with Venice and he promised to look after Paris that day – she said that they were going to have a fun day, but there he was, working again! He felt bad about it, so he quickly turned off his work phone and left in the living room. He was done with work for that day, so he was going to spend the rest of the afternoon with Paris.

If he promised that they would have fun, then he was going to make sure that he would keep his promise!

“Paris, where did you go?” asked Vegas, slowly going down the hallway and he narrowed his eyes when he heard shuffling sounds coming from his office. He narrowed his eyes and looked around – who could be snooping around his office? Vegas cleared his throat and slowly stepped closer to the door, holding back his breath and when he leaned closer, he immediately sighed in relief when he saw Paris.

What was she doing there, anyway?

Curiously, Vegas waited by the door, peeking inside and his eyes widened when he saw her dusting the shelves, his jaw dropping when he saw that Paris was in fact tidying up his office? Vegas admitted that lately, he didn’t really let anyone inside and the office was… a mess. It wasn’t that bad, but it also-

But why was Paris…

Vegas blinked a few times and he chewed on his lower lip. Seeing Paris tidying up his room made him smile, his heart warming up a little bit when he saw his daughter slowly putting the books in order, slowly pushing the chair closer to the desk. The only thing that she didn’t dare to touch were the papers that were on the desk. Paris understood how serious dad was about the family business, so she didn’t touch the papers. Or the computer.

“There, I think dad will be happy now,” said Paris in the hopes that Vegas was going to feel a bit less stressed out. A clean office was a good start and she happily rubbed her hands together. Paris was struggling a bit more when it came to expressing her feelings, so instead of expressing her feelings through words, she expressed them through actions.

Venice was better when it came to talking about feelings, but Paris was slowly learning.

Still, actions sometimes spoke louder than words, that was what papa always said, so that was what she decided to do and then she pulled out her list to see what else she had written there.

Plan how to make dad happy:

Step 1: Clean dad’s room

Step 2: Give dad the bracelet

Step 3: Work out with dad in the gym

Step 4: Ask him to go to the shooting range (but probably won’t work out, so plan B is: watching our favourite TV show)

Step 5: Tell dad he is amazing and give him a lot of hugs

Atep 6: Make dad’s favourite drink – lemonade! (dad loves wine the most, lemonade is his second favourite, but papa says that lemonade is better, so I will give him lemonade. Will add more sugar, papa says dad doesn’t like sour things).

Vegas noticed something in her hands and he narrowed his eyes, leaning closer, but just in that very moment, Paris folded the piece of paper again and put it into her pocket. Still, Vegas was curious. He didn’t know what was going on, but it made him happy. Vegas cleared his throat and Paris slowly turned around, happily smiling all the way up to her ears.

“Dad!” piped Paris up and Vegas looked around.

“What are you doing in my office?” asked Vegas with a smile. He wasn’t mad or anything, just curious.

“I wasn’t snooping around, dad,” said Paris. “I was cleaning your room a little bit. I dusted everything and I also put your books in order. I didn’t touch the computer and the papers,” she happily chirped.

“Oh,” said Vegas and chuckled. Cleaning up wasn’t really something that Paris liked – she never liked cleaning up her room. So, this was quite interesting. “How come?”

“Just felt like it,” said Paris and Vegas smiled softly. “Did it make you happy?” asked Paris and Vegas chuckled softly, crossing his arms on top of his chest.

“Yeah,” said Vegas and Paris happily smiled.

Step one was a success, it was time for step two!

“Do you like it?” asked Paris curiously and Vegas blinked a few times after Paris was done tying the bracelet that she braided in her arts and crafts class. The bracelet wasn’t what she considered perfect, but she still was proud of it and she hoped that Vegas was going to like it. It was made in her two favourite colours – red and black, which happened to be Vegas’ favourite as well and she happily beamed at Vegas, who just looked at her and cocked his head to the side.

“Is it for me?” asked Vegas and Paris happily nodded.

“Yes, I made it,” said Paris. “I worked really hard on it. I braided it in school yesterday,” she said and looked at Vegas, whose heart swelled up with happiness and he skimmed his fingers over the bracelet and he chewed on his lower lip.

Paris made the bracelet for him?

Vegas didn’t know what to say. Of course he liked it. No, he loved it. Vegas pressed his lips together as he was observing the necklace and he swallowed thickly. He felt touched. He loved every single thing that Venice and Paris gifted to him. The same went for Pete. And everytime it happened, Vegas would get so choked up that he wouldn’t know what to say.

Especially now – he’s been under a lot of stress, so this was-

“I love it,” said Vegas and Paris happily grinned, clasping her hands together and she leaned closer.

“I know it’s not perfect. I think arts and crafts isn’t really for me, but I still liked making it because I knew I was making it for you, dad,” said Paris happily and Vegas’ breath shook a little bit as his heart was in process of melting.

Just the thought of Paris giving her best, for someone like him who wasn’t worthy of- What did he do to deserve all of this on that day? It wasn't his birthday, it wasn't a special day, yet it felt like it was. Vegas had so many questions and he just-

“It’s perfect,” said Vegas. “Really, it’s amazing,” said Vegas and looked at Paris, who was happy as well. Seeing Vegas smiling made her happy and she just sighed. Good, her plan was working. Dad was smiling and that was all that mattered. She couldn’t wait to tell papa all about it!

“I’m happy you like it, dad,” said Paris and Vegas gently ruffled her hair.

“Thank you. I will always wear it,” promised Vegas and meant his promise. “From now on, it will be my lucky bracelet,” said Vegas and Paris happily giggled when Vegas leaned down to give her a hug.

Step two was a success too!

“Ah, I’m tired,” said Vegas and sat down, feeling too tired to carry on. When Paris said that she wanted to work out with him, Vegas’ mood got even better. Working out always helped him clear his mind, but working out with the kids was what made the whole thing even better and he just smiled when Paris sat down next to him.

“Me too,” whined Paris and laid down onto the floor, which made Vegas laugh softly and he sighed along. “Today is fun, right?” asked Paris, again, trying to make sure that Vegas was having fun and Vegas chuckled softly.

“You keep asking me that,” said Vegas and he narrowed his eyes. “What are you up to?’’

“Nothing, just asking, dad,” said Paris and Vegas sighed happily.

“Mn. I’m having a lot of fun, pity Pete and Venice aren’t with us to have the fun day with the two of us as well,” said Vegas and he shook his head. Venice and Pete were still waiting at the dentist's. Really, it wasn’t a good day. Especially when Venice wasn’t too fond of the dentist.

“I know what we should do next, dad,” said Paris and Vegas smiled.

“Mn?”

“Let’s watch our series!’’ she announced happily and Vegas chuckled, humming along. Due to his work, he couldn’t really keep up with the series as new episodes were coming out.

It was highly embarrassing, really. This was all of Tankhun’s fault. It was thanks to him that he got addicted to the animated series. Yes, they were aimed towards a younger audience, but there was just something fun about watching the episodes together with Paris. Venice would join them as well, but he had already watched all of the new episodes, while Paris decided to wait so that she could watch them with Vegas.

“Keep that as a secret from Khun, alright?” asked Vegas and Paris started laughing.

“Yes, dad, I know,” said Paris and Vegas gave her a little nod. “Venice already watched the new episodes and he said they’re really good!”

“Can’t wait then,” said Vegas.

Step three – a huge success as well!

Step four was a success as well!

Now, Paris has moved over to step five and six. Vegas was sitting over at the counter, watching Paris pouring him a drink and he was just… dumb founded. The whole day has been a blessing, really. Things have been hard on him lately, so it was like Paris knew. Did Pete tell her to do this? Vegas was suspicious, but he loved the day that they spent together. It was just… soothing for his soul.

“Dad, you’re really cool,” said Paris and Vegas chuckled softly, leaning back against the counter.

“Do you need help with that?” asked Vegas with a bright smile on his face and Paris shook her face.

“No, no, dad, don’t  worry, I will do it,” said Paris and Vegas chuckled.

“Did Pete say something to you?” asked Vegas and Paris looked at him, cocking her head to the side.

“No, why?” asked Paris and handed Vegas the drink, who took it into his hand and he just laughed softly, taking a little sip and his eyes widened when he actually tasted the lemonade – Paris really wasn’t holding back with that sugar. Still, Vegas drank the whole thing with a smile on his face because he knew that it came from the heart. “Did you like the lemonade, dad?”

“Mn. I could really taste the sweetness,” said Vegas and Paris giggled.

“Are you feeling better now?” asked Paris and Vegas pressed his lips together. Ah, so Pete did say something to her, huh?

“I… why are you asking?”

“Ah,” said Paris and then she rubbed the back of her neck. “I know you’ve been feeling down lately, dad. I could see it and I wanted to make you feel better. You and papa are always there for me, so I wanted to be there for you too,” said Paris. “I’m not good at talking about feelings, so I wanted to make your day special,” said Paris and Vegas’ eyes widened when he heard that.

All of that was really… for him? Paris-

Vegas’ heart melted and he chewed on his lower lip, feeling completely choked up. He knew that the kids were growing up, he knew that they noticed things more now, but it was still… it would still surprise him every single time.

“Did I do good? Did I cheer you up?” asked Paris and Vegas almost felt like tearing up as he slowly nodded and Paris happily jumped to him to hug him. All of her six steps worked! Vegas chuckled and hugged her back, gently ruffling her hair and then he huffed.

“Yeah, thanks to you, today was the best,” he said. “You need to stop growing up so fast,” said Vegas and Paris grinned.

“Soon I'll be as tall as you, dad, just you wait,” said Paris.

Vegas really was touched – he was at the loss for words. He thanked Paris, but there really weren’t enough words to express just how happy that made him feel. Vegas wanted to express how thankful he was, but then Paris heard that Venice and Pete were finally back home, so she quickly ran over to Venice and Pete to tell them the good news – that dad was feeling much better now!

As she was in a hurry to leave, Paris didn’t notice that she actually dropped something. Vegas perked up when he saw a piece of paper on the floor and he slowly picked it up. Curiosity got the best of him, so he slowly unfolded the paper and covered his mouth with his hand when he saw just what Paris was reading before in his office.

Step 6: Make dad’s favourite drink – lemonade! (dad loves wine the most, lemonade is his second favourite, but papa says that lemonade is better, so I will give him lemonade. Will add more sugar, papa says dad doesn’t like sour things).

Vegas swallowed thickly as he read through the list, chuckling when he came to the last step and he just pressed his lips together. Paris made the whole plan, she planned the whole day for the two of them to spend together. Just because she knew that he was feeling down, so she went out of her way to-

Vegas took a deep breath in, noticing that his hand was shaking a little bit and he was moved. Almost to tears. He was so lost with reading that he didn’t see or hear Pete walking into the room, leaning closer to see what Vegas was reading. At first he thought that it had to do something with work again , but when he saw Paris’ handwriting, he relaxed and smiled.

Pete wrapped his arms around Vegas, startling his husband a little bit, but Vegas soon recovered and Pete leaned closer, standing behind Vegas, resting his chin on top of Vegas’ shoulder, who leaned back a little bit.

“Sorry, I, uh, I didn’t notice you coming in,” whispered Vegas and Pete just leaned closer, pressing a little kiss against Vegas’ neck. “How was the dentist?”

“Venice’s not in a good mood,” said Pete and chuckled. “It went fine. Just the waiting,” he said and sighed. “Paris said you had a good day?”

“Yeah,” said Vegas and slowly turned around, so that he could face Pete. He swallowed thickly and then shook his head.

“Yeah,” said Vegas, chewing on his lower lip. “These past few weeks have been stressful, but,” said Vegas, smiling softly as he gazed into Pete’s eyes. “Thank you for being patient with me,” said Vegas and Pete smiled softly, placing a little kiss on top of his lips.

“You never need to thank me, Vegas. Me and the kids will always be there for oyu,” said Pete and Vegas slowly slid his arms around Pete’s waist, pulling him closer and before he could kiss him again, the kids interrupted them. Not by walking into the room, but hearing their conversation made Vegas crack up and Pete just chuckled.

“Dentists are evil, Paris. Never go there!”

“Aren’t they doctors for teeth?”

“They’re also liars. He said it will only hurt ‘’a little bit’’ – he lied to me.”

“Oh, no! You got hurt?!”

“Yeah. It didn’t hurt a lot, but it wasn’t pleasant at all!”

“How dares he?!”

“I know, right?!”

“We should go punch him!”

Vegas started laughing and he gently took Pete’s hand into his own, slowly guiding him into the living room where Venice was still ranting about the evil dentist. Eventually Venice calmed down, but he still hated the dentists. With a burning passion.

And for Vegas? Well, he couldn’t be happier to spend the rest of his day surrounded by the people that meant the world to him.

I love the universe that we’ve created (and yes, I say we because I’ve received so many wonderful prompt ideas/requests and loved writing every single one of them). The New Minor Family series has been my happy place for months now and I will continue writing.
