“You smell like a donkey!”
The blond boy gasped, “How dare you! You need a haircut!”
Reyna attempted to cover up her laugh with a cough, but Nico caught on. When did she get here?
”I’m sorry, did you have something to share Reyna?” Jason had a demanding look on his face.
She cleared her throat at she stood up, “Uh, yeah? What kind of insult is ‘you need a haircut’?” she mimicked Jason.
He rolled his eyes, “At least I can get a partner.”
Nico’s eyes widened, he gasped into the microphone before saying, “Damn.”
“Anyway, Jason, when was the last time you showered? I think I need a mask,”
“Hey, wait. Didn’t you have a roblox girlfriend Jason?”
Nico could see Jason’s expression change on his face. He walked over to his phone and connected it to a speaker.
“You know what,” He turned on an instrumental rap song, “We’re doing this rap style.”
”Are you sure your white ass can get words out fast enough to even rap?”
Nico had to hold himself back from laughing. He didn’t even realize Jason had started ‘rapping’.
“You’re built like Shrek! And- and your breath smells like onions! You look like a wreck, and your house is like a dungeon!” He seemed to really get into the music, nodding his head along.
Nico turned away so Jason wouldn’t see him laughing at him. “Hey! Turn back around I’m not done.”
The son of Hades turned around to see Reyna trying not to smile. This made him laugh even harder.
“Are you laughing?”
“No.”
“Yes you are!”
Nico had to take a deep breath, before composing himself.
“Why don’t you try rapping and see how hard it is?!”
”Um, okay? Your mom is ugly, and you look kind of funny. Your hair is dumb, and you are boring. I’d rather stick my head into the sand then listen to who you think is the best band,”
”Your mom is ugly!”
”My mother is dead!”
”So is mine!”
The two boys stared at each other with wide eyes, not quite knowing what to say after that. The silence was filled when Reyna changed to song to Taylor Swift.
Jason let a scream that sounded like a little girl.
“Taylor Swift!”
Jason immediately started singing along with the song. Nico cringed as soon as he had started singing. He was terrible. Awful.
“I can show you incredible things! Magic, madness, heaven, sin. Saw you there and I though, ‘Oh my god, look at that face! You like look my next mistake. Love’s a game, wanna play?’ Ay!”
There was nothing that could stop Nico from laughing when he saw the look of Reyna’s face. She looked like she was going to be sick.
He turned back to Jason, reminding himself to get him singing lessons with the Apollo kids, or something.
“Nico, sing! You too, Reyna! This isn’t a one man band.”
Reyna turned towards Nico and mouthed the word, “Band?” Nico shrugged. No one really understood what Jason said most of the time. Really, it was like a guessing game.
Hesitantly, Nico started singing along. He didn’t use his full strength, so Jason wouldn’t know he could actually sing.
“Gah! Stop! You can’t sing Nico, that’s terrible.”
Reyna took a deep breathing to prevent a laugh coming over, turning her head to the side to cover that up. Once she composed herself she turned back and stood up straight.
“Reyna can sing.”
The praetor gave the Hades kid a not-so-secret glare. “No, I can’t.”
“You’re lying!”
”Lying?”
”Yes! I know you can sing, Reyna.”
”I can’t.”
”Reyna stop lying to Jason.”
She turned towards Nico, trying to make him shut up. When that didn’t work, she said it out-loud, “Shut up, Nico.”
He let out a dramatic gasp. “On my birthday?!” He held his hands over his heart, as if he’d been stabbed.
“It is not your birthday.”
”Yes it is.”
”No, it’s not. Stop lying, Nico.”
The Hades kid’s jaw dropped. “Lying?! I am not lying!”
Then, Jason butted in on the conversation, “Wait, it’s your birthday? I didn’t get you anything!”
”Jason, it’s not his birthday.”
The son of Zeus pointed and Nico saying, “But he said it was!”
“Yeah, and he’s lying.”
”Liar!”
“Don’t call me a liar, Nico Di Angelo!”
”But you are, Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano!” He stuck his tongue out at her.
“Wow. Full government name, too.”
“Be quiet, Jason middle name Grace.”
”What did I do?”
”Exist.”
”Reyna, don’t be so mean. Didn’t you have a crush on him?”
Reyna stared at Nico for a couple seconds before saying, “I am going to strangle you!”
Just as Reyna started her sentence, Nico had run out of the building. Jason thought about convincing Nico to join track, he was a pretty fast runner.
“Wait, you had a crush on me?”
”Sing your song, Grace.”
He seemed content with that answer, as he immediately went back to singing along as if nothing else had happened.
Jason was singing along to Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift- well, more screaming it than anything, when he suddenly stopped.
“Hey, wait, me and Nico were having a rap battle.” He frowned before shrugging and going back to singing the song.
“It’s new! The shape of your body it’s blue, and this feeling I’ve got, its ooooh woahh oh! It’s a cruel summer!”
Meanwhile, Reyna was pacing on the other side of the room. She should’ve known better than to tell Nico about that. He never keeps his mouth shut up about secrets.
Reyna was pulled out of her trance, when suddenly she got hit with a tiny rock. She looked up at the open door to see Will Solace running out of view.
Of course, Nico had gotten Will on this too. She started walking out when Jason said, “Hey, where are you going?”
“To murder two teenage boys.”
”Hah. You’re kidding, right?”
She kept walking til she was around where she had seen Will.
“William, come out of your hiding spot. I saw you.”
Reyna heard a muffled, “No you didn’t.” come from somewhere. She sighed.
She looked around for a moment, until she saw a tiny piece of fluffy blond hair. She walked over to where Will was hiding, grabbed him by the collar, and pulled him up. Face to face.
He let out a small, but embarrassing squeak.
“Hey, Reyna.” He tried to sound nonchalant. She glared at him.
“Hello, William.” She gave him a fake smile, tilting her head slightly.
“Would you, uh, mind letting me go? Perhaps?”
”No.”
”Oh.”
”Where’s your boyfriend?”
”My what?”
”Your boyfriend.”
”What boyfriend?”
”Don’t play dumb with me, William.”
”Wow. That’s kind of rude, actually.”
”Hm, really?”
”You don’t care.”
”Correct. Where’s Nico?”
”Who?”
”William.”
”…I don’t know.”
”Yes you do.”
”Truly no idea.”
Reyna raised an eyebrow at Will. She could tell he knew where Nico was, but she didn’t know how to get him to admit that. Maybe she could lightly threaten him.
It seems Will could read the look on her face.
”If you’re going to threaten me, that isn’t going to work.”
”And why not?”
“Because I am unthreatenable.”
”That’s not a word.”
”Well, it is now.”
”I don’t think that’s how that works.”
”Then how does it work?”
”Stop changing the subject. Where is Nico?”
Will cluelessly looked around before shrugging. “Told you, I don’t know.”
Reyna dropped Will’s collar, making him fall to the ground.
“Ow!”
Reyna looked around, mocking Will’s fake cluelessness, then looking around for his boyfriend.
She spotted the front of his black converse behind of a log. She stood towering over it for a few seconds, then cleared her throat.
“Ow! Oh, my ankle, I think it’s broken! Reyna, please help.”
She turned around briefly to say, “You’re a doctor.”
He pouted, giving her puppy eyes. “Reyna!”
She sighed, walking back over to the Apollo boy, now still on the ground. “What?”
”Help me up?” He grinned at her, trying to look innocent. He had succeeded in distracting Reyna enough for his boyfriend to run away silently.
As Reyna bent down to help Will up, he firmly gripped her hand. He pulled as hard as he could, and at the same time he kicked the back of Reyna’s legs, making her fall on the ground.
Will got up and sprinted away as fast as he could towards his boyfriend. “Run!” He yelled at him.
“William get back here now!”
Nico’s eyes widened, “What did you do?” he asked.
“Shadow-travel me out of her! She’s going to kill me!” Will spoke loudly with his hands flying all around him. He was shaking Nico as he was talking.
Nico grabbed Will’s hand and ran over to the shade. Together, they shadow-traveled to the dining hall.
Will was still screaming and ended up waking Clovis up. He looked up confused, then almost instantly fell back asleep.
“I’m going to die! I’ll be murdered! Nico you have to hide me.”
“Hide you? She’s going to kill me too!”
Just then, Jason walked up to them.
“Hey.”
As soon as Will saw him, he started begging him to tell Reyna not to kill him.
Jason seemed just as confused as Clovis was.
“Dude, what are you talking about?”
Will explained the whole situation to him. Only, he was interrupted a few times from Jason laughing.
“So, you lied to Reyna, then flipped her over?”
“Will.”
”Yes. I am so dead.”
”Will.”
Will turned towards his boyfriend, who’s eyes were wide. Will looked where Nico was looking to see Reyna walking towards them.
“Ah, nice talking to you Jason. Gotta go, bye!”
He grabbed Nico’s hand and started running. Will started praying to his dad that he could run fast enough to get away from Reyna.
Nico could hear his boyfriend’s mumbled prayer to his dad and tried holding back his laughter. He looked back and immediately stopped laughing because Reyna was far too close to them.
“Will run faster! Stop praying, damnit.”
Will looked back to see Reyna getting closer. He let out a shriek and started apologizing to Reyna.
“I’m sorry, Reyna! I didn’t mean it, I was just kidding. Ha ha! Reyna, I’m sorry, please stop chasing me!”
He would’ve almost ran into a tree if Nico hadn’t pulled him out of the way.
“Oh, geez. You think she’s still mad?”
Nico took a second to answer, “Definitely.”
Will shook his head and sighed. He motioned for Jason to come over to him. “Hey, what’s up?”
”Is Reyna still mad at us?”
Jason pretended to think for a second, then said, “Yeah. One hundred percent.”
Will took that as a chance to go up to her and talk. Nico looked at Jason, confusion written all over his face.
“How did we go from having a rap battle to Reyna getting cursed by Will?”
“I have no idea- wait what? He cursed her?!”
Nico stomped away from Jason, towards his boyfriend.
“William Andrew Solace!”
Will turned around for a split second, let out a high-pitched scream, and then ran away.
“Are you only going to speak in poems now?”
Reyna nodded, clearly not eager to start speaking only in poems.
“Ha, sucks. Bye!”
And with that, Nico walked away from Reyna going on with his day, acting like none of this happened.
When he found Will hiding in the Oracle Cave with Rachel, he gave him a kiss on the cheek and congratulated him on being brave for doing that.
Together they walked back to Will’s cabin and spent the rest of the day until dinner in there doing absolutely everything and nothing at the same time.
When he went to dinner, Jason came up to him.
“Hey, Nico. So… we never got to finish that rap battle earlier, you know.”
“No.”
