Work Text:

"It isn't that bad, you know."

Mike groans, letting his limbs stretch out on his bed before throwing an arm over his eyes. "I just don't see why you'd want to waste time painting me instead of, like, the sunset or some shit."

"I do like painting you, Mike," Will says, affection clear in his voice. "You have no idea how much I've drawn you over the years."

Mike peeks out from under his arm at his boyfriend, who is blushing heavily as he stares at the canvas in front of him. It must take a lot of courage to admit something like that since their romantic relationship is still fairly new.

Mike can feel his cheeks warm at the thought. At the fact that Will has apparently drawn him a lot and now wants to paint him, and just the thought about them being in a relationship, being boyfriends.

Mike heaves a sigh, dramatically rolling off the bed to get up. He runs his fingers through his hair, wincing as they catch on a knot. "If I do this…"

Will's head snaps up to look at him, a smile slowly spreading across his face.

"If I do this, then you have to…" Mike trails off, trying to think of something he wants Will to do. "You have to go on a date with me."

Mike watches Will's face darken into a deeper red, just like his own face is. Will looks away, but Mike can hear his smile.

"Okay, I'll do it."

Mike breaks out into a smile, going over to wrap his arms around Will's middle and set his chin on Will's shoulder. "I promise it won't be anything big, just some cuddling, watching a movie, maybe a pillow fight."

Mike pulls back enough to look his boyfriend in the eye. He smiles before hesitantly pressing his lips against Will's forehead. He doesn't miss the way Will looks at him as he pulls away, like he's the most important thing in the world.

"Okay, okay. Just go over there, and don't move."

"Sure. How long does this take?"

Will just smiles. “It’ll take longer if you keep moving.”

Mike shifts to sit on his hands. “Is this any better?”

Will nods once before his face changes into an expression Mike knows well - the face Will gets when he’s working on something, be it a painting or a drawing. Mike has no doubt he looks lovesick right now, but it’s necessary!

Mike is so in love that it almost hurts. He lets these thoughts distract him as he watches Will work, glancing up at Mike every few moments. He wishes he could just tell Will he wants to spend every minute with him, but it’s pretty obvious they’re attached at the hip already.

To Mike, it doesn’t feel like enough.

“You’re very pretty, you know,” Will whispers, and Mike can feel the blush on his face spreading.

“I am?”

“Yeah.”

More silence.

The sound of pencil against canvas surrounds them, and Mike struggles to stay still like Will had told him. Turns out, Mike finds it hard to just stop . He needs to always be moving something , whether it be his arms or legs or his mouth, saying whatever comes to mind. Something needs to be moving or this sort of pressure starts to build, making it harder and harder to resist moving.

Will glances up at him, and a small smile breaks out. “How about we add in a few breaks?”

“Please.”

Will chuckles. “It’s only been ten minutes, Mike.”

“Ten minutes too long,” Mike mutters, falling onto his back on Will’s bed.

A laugh. “Five minutes, then back where you were. I promise it won’t take too long.”

“Fine,” Mike pouts, though he knows he’ll deny it forever. He doesn’t pout. He lifts his head up to look at his boyfriend. “I better look good in the painting,” he says, as if he doesn’t adore anything Will draws, even the shitty ones that were drawn when they were younger.

Will just smiles at him, but it’s a softer smile than Mike is used to because, again, they’d recently gotten together and are just now showing these emotions. Though Will has always been the braver one, Mike thinks, turning away with a red face.

True to Will’s word, they take a break every ten minutes, and they get done with the sketching in an hour and a half. The rest of it takes an additional few hours.

It’s safe to say that the finished product is so incredible that Mike doesn’t know what to say. Not that that’s any different than usual.
