Chapter 1: Remus

Chapter Text

“That's it, I'm just gonna fail astrology.”

“You're not gonna fail astrology, read your book you tosser.” Remus said jokingly.

It had been a week since he and Lily started their marauders study group and every single time without fail, Sirius sat next to him and complained about one subject or another. Not that Remus minded. He was quite fond of the attention he was getting from padfoot, although he was sure he would've complained to anyone he was sitting next to. Remus just happened to be the one to sit there.

“You don't understand moony, you're a bloody genius, you cant fail. This is gonna kill me!” Sirius said with even more drama than usual.

“While I appreciate the compliment pads, I'm only a genius because I've read that book and ten others like it already. Maybe if you spent less time whining about work and more time doing it you'd pass your classes. Here look,” Remus said leaning over the french boys shoulder to show him a passage. “This line is exactly what you've been griping about for the last ten minutes. Just read that."

Sirius was too busy staring at the curves of Remus’ jaw to notice which line he pointed at so he just started reading the page again.

James cleared his throat. “Oi if you two are done flirting with each other I've had a question for the last five and a half minutes”.

Sirius started to turn red.

“What? We weren't flir-” Remus started.

“I could've helped you with that James you should've said something” lily said. “Really, it's not like you to stay so quiet.” she added with a wink.

“Oh - uh yah," James stuttered “just um - I had - so about this potions thing I"...

Remus was glad to be out of the spotlight for now. Being in love with your best friend was bad enough, but it was even worse having all your friends tease you about it not knowing it was true. He looked over at Sirius, seemingly deep into his research, and got back to his own book.

The rest of their study session went quickly and uneventfully, which Remus was thankful for. He didnt need another reason to be awkward around Sirius.

Once they got back to their dorms though, James went to shower before quidditch and Peter was still nowhere to be found - studying by himself apparently, but that was four hours ago - which left Remus and Sirius alone until one of the other marauders came back or one of them left.

“You alright mate? You look a bit pale. I mean you always look pale but more than usual.”

Remus had been so lost in thought he hadn't noticed Sirius had walked across the room towards him and was now standing right in front of him. He was so close Remus could see the flecks of grey in his eyes.

“Hm? Oh, yah fine, m’just thinking about something.” remus had gotten very good at lying.

Sirius looked at him expectantly. “Care to share with the class?”

Just as remus was about to come up with some wild excuse for why he was acting weird, james came out of the bathroom, black hair slicked back - although not for long - and steam following him. Sirius stepped back like he was embarrassed to be standing so close now. Remus shoved the thought out of his head.

“Alright lads?”

“Alright.” remus and sirius mumbled, almost in unison.
