Chapter Text
steve finds a piece of paper in his locker between classes.
he unfolds the softened paper carefully, like he’s scared it’d tear apart in his hands if he’s too rough with it. the note is soft in the way paper becomes after its fiddled and played with nervously and held in sweat-slick palms for too long.
he reads it as quietly as he can under his breath, because it helps his brain not to switch the letters around.
you are the bittersweet between my teeth
the secret sugar cube melting under my tongue
rotting me from the inside out
with your love
a blush warms his face and neck and he glances up and down the busy hall, half hoping that he’d find a familiar gaze looking back, but he doesn’t.
he knows where to find it, though.
he folds the paper up and slips it into the pocket of his polo, placing it right over his heart for safe keeping.
