Not Alone

Summary:

After the Avengers team is exposed to an unknown gas and been mutated as a result Peter and Steve are in the infirmary waiting for word on possible treatments.

Notes:

I was unable to decide on a single Fandom/OTP for the year of the otp challenge 2023 so I've done multiple.

This one is based on the following prompts for February: "Different" and "pollen/fear gas/truth serum"

Not Alone

“This is going to take some getting used to again,” he said as he fidgeted with this extra arms wishing he had a shirt that would fit over his bare chest as he glanced over at the large blond werewolf sitting on the edge of the bed in the infirmary of the Mansion. “Do you think that crazy Nightshade woman’s notes will contain a way to fix this situation?”

“Hopefully,” Steve said his voice scratchy and rough, “Especially for Tony’s sake we can’t keep him locked up in that cell forever but we can’t let him run around after what he attempted that’s too dangerous.” That was an understatement the entire team had been changed by whatever the gas was but Tony had actually turned dangerous and had to be locked up since he seemed to have zero impulse control and had become very sexually aggressive and violent. They were just lucky they’d gotten him locked up before he really crossed any lines. “Bruce at least seemed hopeful that he and Doctor McCoy can reverse it.”

“I guess I’ll have to call the school and tell them to arrange a substitute because of a medical emergency,” he said joining Steve on the bed’s edge. “I don’t think my students would take me showing up with six arms very well.”

“You could bring your giant furry boyfriend that might distract them enough that they didn’t notice,” Steve said with a weak laugh that was really more of a growl. “It smells like Wolverine has ordered rare steaks three rooms down,” Steve said after a moment. “I forgot how much I can smell when I’m like this.”

“I hope I don’t stink, I never got a chance to put any deodorant on these extra pits,” he said as a weak joke hoping to get a laugh out of Steve because it was honestly laugh or cry at this point just to avoid freaking out over the idea of having these arms again this time for good.

“You actually smell pretty good,” Steve said a slight hitch in his scratchy werewolf voice. He looked over and easily recognized the look in Steve’s eyes really the only part of his face that hadn’t changed. Steve wanted him even with the extra arms. “You know I really wish this snout would let me kiss you.”

“I’m sure we can figure something out it’ll be different but as long as you don’t lick me like a dog we can probably make it work,” he said and quickly gave a quick kiss to Steve’s muzzle. Steve responded by pulling him against him and flopping back onto the bed so they were laying there together. He had to admit the fur was going to take some getting used to but it was incredibly soft. He was also going to have to get used to the the massive size increase Steve had always been broader than him but now he felt absolutely tiny even with the extra arms that he wrapped around Steve beginning to really enjoy the feel of the fur.

Steve took the opportunity to try to kiss him and sadly it was a bit more dog like than either of them seemed to like. “We’ll have to work on that,” Steve said pulling back. “you smell really good.” Steve put his head against this neck and breathed deeply it definitely tickled and then he stopped. “Hank’s on his way.”

They pulled apart and sat up about the time there was that annoyingly brief Doctor’s knock at the door before Hank McCoy walked in with a clip board. “I just wanted to let you know we’ve finished going over the data taken from the lab where you were all exposed and I have mixed news,” he said sounding apologetic. “The good news is that based on the data we think there’s an excellent chance that we can eventually treat and reverse everyone’s altered conditions.”

“Eventually,” Steve said before he could so he didn’t bother to join the discussion yet just sat back to listen. He could hear the edge in Steve’s voice since eventually implied that they might be like this for a while.

“Yes, unfortunately the gas wasn’t actually supposed to mutate you,” Hank said shaking his head. “It was meant to turn you into hopelessly devoted slaves to her every whim and that’s probably what it would have done to a normal human.” Hank shook his blue fuzzy head, “Unfortunately every Avenger present even those without powers normally has at some point been exposed to compounds that alter their genetics and the interaction of the gas with them caused this.” He looked at the chart, “I believe both of you have experienced these mutations before.”

“Yes,” He said before Steve could and noticed Steve just nodded. “So how long do you think it will take to cure us?” He was not going to entertain the word if until every option had been exhausted.

“It will vary with each of you, because these were unexpected reactions to your altered DNA each condition will require an individual treatment,” Hank signed, “However, both of your conditions appear stable so you will most likely not have to be quarantined unless that situation changes in the next twenty four hours.” Well at least there was that the infirmary was hardly the most relaxing of places. “Also, I don’t object to the two of you staying together since you are romantically involved but I have to insist the two of you abstain from all sexual activity for the next few days.” He and Steve let out matching groans and then glanced at each other. He looked at Hank who seemed amused but he didn’t say anything. “Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go tell the others the mixed news.”

Once Hank was gone he turned to Steve who was looking a bit forlorn. “So you really don’t mind the extra limbs,” He asked and Steve shook his head. “I mean I know your surprisingly kinky for such a patriotic symbol but the way you groaned.”

“I’m more surprised by you not minding that I’m a large slobbering werewolf,” Steve said with a weak laugh, “your own groan was pretty clear about how much you didn’t mind.”

“You know us science nerds, most of us are secretly furries,” he said and joined Steve in laughing. At least he wasn’t going through this alone.
