Does it Bother you
“You know dating Captain America is really hard some times,” he said to Steve as he ran a hand up his side. “Especially when your in the outfit, whenever I look at you in it,” he paused seeing Steve look uncomfortable, “it just kind of hits me all at once how much pressure your under to always be a role model and that has to suck.”
“It does, just like I’m sure having Jameson constantly calling you a menace has to suck for you,” Steve said clearly relaxing a bit. “Does it ever bother you being involved with Captain America?” There was still the edge there in his voice as if he was worried.
“Sometimes,” he said deciding to be honest. “I mean I wouldn’t trade this for anything but your other identity is very much larger than life and you don’t really have a secret identity so sooner or later the world is going to find out that Peter Parker a guy from queens is dating the Captain America.” He could tell Steve was a bit bothered by it so he asked, “Does it bother you that it bothers me?”
“A little but I’m used to it,” Steve said after a moment. “I made the choice years ago to stop keeping my identity a secret since it let too many other people speak for me but there are times I wish I could still disappear into a civilian role without anyone knowing.”
He would normally make a joke to relieve the tension but instead he asked, “Does it bother you some times being involved with the spider-menace?” He had to wonder because it had affected his relationships before when the media pushed by Jonah was endless negativity.
“Yes, it bothers me that folks can’t see the good man you are,” Steve said with a bit of a grin before giving him a quick kiss. “It also bothers me that your life is going to get a lot more complicated when people figure out that the two of us are together.”
“My life is always complicated and if it wasn’t for Aunt May I’d be willing to take a front page ad out in the Bugle about how happy I am with you,” he said giving Steve a look. “I just worry that once the world knows that someone may go after her to get to you through me.”
“I know that’s why you’ve always guarded your identify and if you want to end this then I’ll understand,” Steve said after a moment. He had honestly been expecting that offer for a while now as they got more serious.
“No, like I said earlier I wouldn’t trade this for anything,” he said pausing to give Steve a deep kiss. “I just think it’s something we need to plan for and besides my aunt likes you she’d kill me if I broke up with you to protect her.” He had been a bit reluctant to introduce Steve but he’d easily won over his aunt.
“I can remember the dressing down she gave you when you tried to make her quit working for Howard,” Steve said with a laugh. “She’d probably give me a similar one if she knew I dared suggest we break up just because of some potential difficulties.”
He wasn’t fond of being reminded of his Aunt’s day job for Howard the Duck of all people or is it water fowl but he had to laugh at the image of his aunt laying into Steve. “Yeah she’d definitely give you a piece of her mind.” He relaxed a bit and glanced at Steve to see him smiling slightly. “You know what else I want to do whenever I look at you?” Steve gave him a curious look. “This,” he kissed him deeply then, “And so much more.”
The End
