A date arranged by Molly

Summary:

Percy is to go on a date, not a clue with who. But one thing is sure Mother knows best.

Work Text:

Percy sighed, tapping his fingers on the top of the table while waiting. His date was late. How could one be late on a mysterious date? Didn't this other person have nerves and wanted to get it done as soon as possible? Truly some people…

He was just about to rant further, when the little bell above the door rang again. He looked up and straight away looked back down, his heart pounding.

The service couldn't have matched him with Marcus Flint right? Little old Percy, a match for Marcus Flint, the retired quidditch prodigy. It had to be a coincidence that they were at the same muggle restaurant.

Oh but no it wasn't, because he could hear footsteps walking towards his table, then a black rose being placed down to accompany his own rose and finally a person sitting down in front of him.

"Weasley, this might be more comfortable if we could speak while both looking up. I also can't imagine it is very good for your neck to keep your head down so long."

Slowly Percy breathed in, before sitting properly again. In doing so he got a good look at his date for the evening. Marcus mostly still looked the same, however he sported a beard now and had a few more muscles. Clearly he was still in top form even when no longer playing quidditch.

"Good evening Marcus, if we're going on a date. We might as well call each other by our own name." He said with more bravo than he truly felt.

"Alright Percy. Now I'm sorry but I have to ask. How did you land here? I don't see you using a secret dating service on your own. Too many unknown variables."

"You're right. I didn't enter myself, but mom found it had been too long that I lived on my own with just my cat so she entered me herself."

"Ah, so I suppose I can't even know for sure if I'm actually your type. For the record I did enter myself and I have absolutely no complaints." Marcus winked at him.

At this Percy could feel his cheeks heating up. His mother had guessed accurately what he wanted in a partner. Marcus had become one handsome man.

"You know what they say, mother knows best. But let's order and find out if we're truly a match."

At this Marcus grinned, before calling over the waiter.

After dinner

"Thank you for a lovely evening Marcus." Percy smiled.

"It was truly my pleasure."

Percy looked around, not really wanting to leave without a second date in the future. But also not wanting to ask himself. When the silence went on too long, he braced himself before opening his mouth but Marcus beat him to it.

"Would you go on a second date with me?"

Percy smiled widely at this, "yes definitely".

Marcus smiled back, "good, this is my number we shall think of something." With it he handed over a small paper, kissed Percy's cheek and walked away.

Percy held the paper tightly and smiled. Seemed his mother found him the right match.
