Penny hums idly as she scrolls through her phone, sitting at the picnic table Arven had set up for lunch. Beside her Arven is reading a culinary book that Juliana had gifted him. The two were waiting for Nemona and Juliana to arrive so they could have lunch together, a tradition that was born from their journey back from Area Zero.
It's not long before the familiar hum of Miradons tires? Feet? grows louder, carrying with it the sound of rambunctious laughter. Penny looks up just as it pulls up next to the table, a grinning Juliana and horrified looking Nemona on it's back.
“That. was. AWESOME!” Juliana shrieks, dismounting swiftly before helping Nemona, who more falls off than anything. Her poor face is a few shades greener than normal and Penny resists the urge to go and kiss it better.
“I'm never riding with you again.” Nemona groans, dragging her hands over her face. “You drive way too fast. I just saw my life flash before my eyes.”
“You’ll get used to it.” Juliana plops down across the table from Arven, who's abandoned his book to watch the drama go down. Nemona joins her, but not before pressing a quick kiss to Penny’s cheek, whispering a honeyed greeting in her ear.
“Buddy, I think you're just an adrenaline junkie.” Arven chuckles, and Juliana blows a raspberry in his direction.
“Nah, you guys are just boring.”
“Juliana, stop trying to kill my girlfriend.” Penny glares jokingly at the girl and Nemona grins at her, blowing a kiss. Penny fake gags, pretending to bat away the affection which only makes Nemona smile harder.
Juliana elbows Nemona and starts talking pokemon trainer gibberish that may as well be a different language for all Penny knows. Still, Nemona responds excitedly in turn and Penny feels a small smile creep on her face as she watches her girlfriend wave her hands around and talk animatedly. They were finally dating after weeks of dancing around and denying their feelings, which had all boiled over when Juliana had, rudely, locked them in a room until they confessed. It had worked though, so Penny decided to spare the girl from her wrath. Absolutely not because it would make Nemona sad. Not at all.
Now they're a month strong and Penny can feel herself getting sappier by the week, although she definitely would vehemently deny it if accused, which her friends love to do.
“Are you gonna eat that?” Arven’s voice snaps Penny from her thoughts, and she looks to see him pointing at her untouched sandwich.
“Oh, no. I'm not hungry right now.” She responds, pushing the plate over to him. “Feel free to take it.”
“Thanks, I was more asking for Miradon.” The pokemon in question sits at the end of the table, eyes fixated on the sandwich. “It's been baby doll eyeing that sandwich for a while. Just like you to Nemona.” Arven chuckles while tossing the sandwich to the pokemon, and Penny scoffs. “Hey, nothing wrong with being sappy towards your girlfriend.”
“I am not sappy.” Penny sniffs, and he gives her an unimpressed look.
“Oh really? Tell me, what food do combee make?”
“Honey?” Penny questions and Nemona, previously deep in conversation with Juliana, turns her head.
“¿Si, Mi cielo?”
“Ah, n-nothing!” Penny stutters, her face flushing. Arven barks out a loud laugh, slapping a hand on the table. “OH MY GOD,” He wheezes. “I CANT BELIEVE THAT ACTUALLY WORKED!” The blonde shakes with rambunctious laughter and Penny groans, covering her burning face.
“What? What happened? What’s so funny?” Juliana presses, leaning over the table to poke at Arven. “Hey! Explain!” Arven does between chuckles and soon Juliana joins him in laughter.
“Oh my arceus,” She giggles. “Nemo, she calls you honey?”
“Uh, yeah?” Nemona responds, tilting her head in confusion. “She calls me honey, love, sweetie-” Nemona starts listing off all Penny's pet names that were meant for her ears only and the couple's friends wheeze harder. “Why are you guys laughing, I think it's sweet!”
“Idiots, all of you.” Penny sulks, glaring at the trio. “I hate you all. I should have left you lot in Area Zero.”
“Even me?” Nemona pouts and Penny sighs loudly.
“No sweetheart, not you.” Nemona instantly perks up, smiling brightly. The pet name, as expected, spawns another round of laughter from their friends and Penny rolls her eyes, turning her attention back to her rotom phone. She was going to get back at them later, and she already knew the best way how.
Oh, sweet sweet revenge.
Later, in Juliana’s dorm:
“Okay, we get it! We're sorry for calling you sappy!” Arven whines, slumped in Juliana's desk chair. Juliana sits on the edge of the desk, focused on braiding a section of his hair.
“I didn't even say it, why am I getting punished too?” The girl whines.
“Sorry, can't hear either of you.” Penny quips from her position in Nemona's lap, the two cuddling on a bean bag chair on the floor. “Too busy being a total sap for my darling, my love, the applin of my eye.” She punctuates each affectionate term with a kiss to Nemonas cheek, staring adoringly at her girlfriend. Just as planned, the sudden increase of affection has turned Nemona to blissfully flustered goo. Every word spoken went in one ear and straight out the other, including their friends' cries to ‘please stop being so disgustingly affectionate, its been like an hour’.
“I quickly became homophobic.” Arven states grimly, watching Penny pepper kisses across Nemona's face. “Hating on gay people became part of my lifestyle.”
