Chapter Text

These days, you hadn't been feeling well. Your limbs felt weak, and you had felt lightheaded. Funny thing is, you have been doing heavy work for a couple years--two, to be exact--as a farmer in a certain remote town named Pelican Town. So, it wouldn't make much sense that suddenly you couldn't do a minuscule effort like picking up watering cans to quench the thirst of your poor crops.

Not only that, nausea sometimes come up every now and then. Your diet usually contains veggies from your own crops, so there's no way it was food poisoning or bad crops. Your buyer would've beat the shit out of you had that been the case.

Was it a viral disease? No, everyone else would've caught it along with you then. Are you just getting old? Shut up.

You weren’t feeling great to begin with, but it doesn’t help that today just happened to be arguably the hottest day of summer. Fuck, you might as well faint now. Actually don’t, because if you faint right in the middle of the farm now Yoba forbids you’ll get burnt to crisp by the burning sun.

Picking up the near empty watering can, you watered one last patch of crop and decided to call it a day. Why not use sprinklers? Nuh-uh, not that well off yet to craft one for her falm. You have to do things manually around here (but gaslit yourself into believing it’ll help you get the most toned arms ever).

After tidying off the farming tools, the chores are mostly done for the day. You wiped off the sweat streaming down your face and neck. You’re stinking, bad, you’re gonna need a good shower to wash off all the gunks.

“I’m back,” you entered the house, expecting to be greeted by a special someone.

Woah, a special someone? Yes boo, you’re married. Married! To the love of your life. And that person is non arguably the best person to ever exist-

“…Welcome back,” said person grumbled quietly.

Whoops, you probably caught him in a bad time. He’s still the best, of course, just a little grumpy at times. This is one of those times.

“Seb, dear, still doing your work? Have you eaten?” you approached him carefully and looked from behind him into the screen. It’s filled with jumbled codes you don’t understand. You honestly don’t know how Sebastian handles this on the daily. To relief his probably aching back, you put your hands on his shoulders and do an impromptu massage.

Yes, the emo guy in dark attire with the eye-covering bang is no longer a bachelor. You both got married one year ago in the town square, witnessed and blessed by the whole village. It was the best day of your life, and every day is filled with happiness living with him. It was everything you wanted.

He replied while sighing, enjoying your touch, “No, not yet, love. This is a pretty difficult client to work with.”

It pained you to see him so stressed, and did he say he hadn’t eaten?! Your eyes bat to the closest clock you have. What the fuck, it was nearly past lunch time! Now that’s a problem you have to fix right away! Forget showering, it can wait!

“Hold on, dear! I’m gonna cook now!” you sprinted to the kitchen in full speed, careful enough not to clash into anything because fuck if you break anything you have no money to fix it.

You whipped up the quickest dish you can make from the ingredients available. There were still some fishes from your last fishing trip, so you took them out swiftly and sliced them into thin pieces. A simple, quick and delicious sashimi made with love is done.

Plating it nicely but still minding the clock, you put the dish on the dining table along with a beverage of his choice. “Come eat, dear!”

Sebastian glanced at you for a second before quickly going back to his computer, “Just a second, love.”

“Any later and it’s going to get cold. Can you just stop for a second?” you tried coaxing him to eat. It would be bad to miss lunch, and working nonstop isn’t good for his body either.

“Fine,” he sighed, it was always like this. He can sense the love and care from you, and he knew that working continuously is bad for his health, but he couldn’t help it. Sometimes it gets annoying to be interrupted, despite for a good reason.

He got up from his work chair and waltzed for the kitchen lazily. It’s pretty embarrassing, but you weren’t able to afford a dining room just yet so a dinner table is hastily placed there as a makeshift dining room. It’s pretty cramped, but it works.

Sebastian sat down and ate in quick succession. He needed to get back to work quickly, or else he’s gonna miss the deadline.

“What if I change the structure of the code at that section…” he mumbled as he ate. Work stuff, as always.

You imagined he has always had the habit of talking to himself, but he stayed in his own company most of the time so no one noticed. Now that you’re living together, you have been graced to see this side of him—the side no one sees.

Ah, fuck.

You were worried about Sebastian not eating that you had forgotten the nausea you initially felt. Now, it’s coming back. Maybe it’s time to visit Harvey and seek his help.

You took a quick shower, as uncomfortable as ever, barely enough to wash away the proof of labor today. Putting on the first thing you see from the closet, you prepared to head out.

“Seb, I’m gonna head out for a bit,” you informed him. He was back in front of his computer, saying something along the lines of take care.

Hopefully it wasn’t something like a terminal disease, you dramatically thought. Then you scoffed at the thought, as if. You were probably just working too hard.

’We don’t know what the cause is at the moment, so maybe your immune system has gone down. Get proper rest and eat your meals. Do get some energy tonic and muscle remedy first and use accordingly, it’ll help relieve your fatigue.’

So even you can get exhausted huh. That was new.

You gulped down the whole energy tonic, feeling irritated because of the momentary weakness. You have to work harder to earn a better life for you and Sebastian. You had promised to give him the best, after all.

Arriving at the farm, you were greeted with warm lights decorating your home. They were placed on purpose so whenever you or Sebastian go back late, neither of you would trip over rocks or run into fences.

A warm smile decorated your face. Tomorrow you’ll feel a lot better, work hard like an ox, and harvest all the crops by the end of the month then get rich. Mwahahaha.

You were dead wrong, because the next day you felt even more sick. Not only was there nausea, you were also feeling bloated the whole day. The fuck? Over and over you crossed a mental checklist on what could possibly the cause for it.

Yesterday you had downed the entire bottle, and while it relieved the aches from your muscles, it did nothing to relieve nausea. Well, news flash, maybe you are terminally ill and going to die. That Harvey, you're gonna sue him for misdiagnosis if you actually die later. Wait, if you die then how the fuck are you gonna sue him?

So farming is off the schedule for today. Sebastian was shocked when he woke up and saw that you were still in bed, because usually it’s the other way around. You were an early riser, how come you’re lazying around now?

You had told him it was just a lazy day overall, and you wanted to rest. He smiled, happy that you finally decided to take a break. He should see himself in the mirror though because honestly, the guy looks like he’s gonna collapse any moment. Fuck you, whoever the client is, whatever big bucks they give him won’t matter if he’s gonna end up admitted to a hospital at the end of the day.

The day after, you feel like the universe has some major plan to fuck you up and make you feel even shittier than before. You were no longer capable to be out and about, just being in bed.

You were feeling so shitty you had to ask Maru about it through Sebastian’s phone (you weren’t able to afford one, it’s nothing new). Maru was so shocked thinking the sun was gonna rise from the west until she heard your voice.

Listening to your symptoms, Maru went silent. Then, she advised you to get to the clinic as soon as possible because she was coincidentally on the clock and might help. So, you brought body that felt like lead over to the clinic.

“Wait here,” she said, getting something from one of the drawers. You were sitting on the patient’s bed, casually staring at the picture on the wall. Oh, that’s a nice picture of a…what the hell is that?

And then you were taken aback with what Maru took out. “What the f- excuse me, you don’t think…”

“Yes, I do think,” Maru explained slowly, “You could be pregnant, but we’re not sure yet so go ahead and use it. We’ll know then.”

“So you’re telling me to pee on a stick.” you mumbled, you didn’t even notice you said that out loud.

“…???” she looked confused, ‘what the fuck’ written on her face.

You coughed, “Nevermind. I’m gonna do it. At home!”

A week passed by in a breeze.

And you spent it all curling in bed.

Why? Because, for Yoba’s sake, you are pregnant.

Yes, pregnant. Preggers. Preggo. Preggart? Pregananant?

It hit you like a thousand bricks. There’s a new life in you! Your belly is gonna swell up soon, and you’re gonna experience the worst nine months of your life. Don’t even get started on the hospital bills for the checkup—wait, do Harvey’s clinic even provide services for that?! And how are you gonna afford all that?! Wait, you don’t even have room for a nursery—

The news hit you so hard you could only curl in bed, dreading every aspect of it.

You are happy, alright. It was the crystallization of your love with Sebastian. Finally, the family is gonna be complete with the new addition of your kid. And it’s beautiful, honestly. But are they ready?

Look, they’re young, and it’s a surprise pregnancy. It’s true that you guys are married, but could you guys afford an actual human being? Sebastian has parents that are willing to support him, but you had no one. Your grandpa has passed. Mom and dad? …Well, they’re not around. You basically ran away from their grasp to Pelican Town, after all.

Sebastian works hard, but he works even harder now that you guys are married. He can no longer ask his parents for support, it would hurt his pride. If he finds out they’re having a kid, will he work himself to death?

You were already a burden to Sebastian as is, what more with a kid in the equation?

Everything is giving you a headache. You hadn't told anyone--well, aside from Maru but that's a given. To everyone, you're just suddenly leaving your crops unattended and staying in bed 24/7. You're cool with that, but oh my fuck her crops! Her poor crops!

Fuck, all your summer crops are gonna die out.

"Love, you up? I'm gonna go out for a smoke, okay?" Sebastian called from the kitchen, full from eating less than satisfactory dishes you made in a hurry. Sometimes you even forget to do so or too tired so your husband had to make meals himself. But you do try to avoid that as much as possible, he was already tired as is.

You let out a reply, more like a groan, "Okay."

The front door closed, and everything returned to silence. Oh, how you hated being alone. You hope to Yoba that Sebastian will come home soon, despite him only stepping out seconds ago.

"Oh fuck, not again!" you got up immediately and ran to the bathroom. The next event doesn't need to be told in detail, let's just say you let out a nasty...puke. It made your nausea recede for a bit though, so hooray!

Finally leaving the prison that was your bedroom, you glanced around the house. Holy shit, how long has it been since she cleaned? Like, two weeks ago? She really needed to start doing chores again.

Deciding where to clean up first was the hardest task. Just then, your gaze landed on his messy desk. And Sebastian is gone.

Right, now that you felt better...let's give him a surprise.

"I'm back." Sebastian said, the residue smell of cigarettes still emanating from him. You smiled at him, then continued cleaning up the kitchen. The whole house had been neglected, it was due time to clean shit up.

Your beloved husband sat down on his years old chair, ready to go back to work, until he realized something wasn't right.

"Wait. Where are my notes?" he asked, suddenly frantic. "Did you clean them up?"

At this point you realized the tone of his voice was wrong. "Yes, dear. It was very messy, so while you were gone I tidied them up."

You pointed at a neat corner on his desk. His face went pale as he went through the now neat pile of papers.

"What the- Farmer! I specifically put them in that order because- no, you wouldn't understand. It was on purpose! Now I lost the progress I made for, I don't know, the whole day. Thanks for that." he roared, looking at you with thick anger.

"Oh no...I'm- I'm so sorry, love. I just wanted to- Is there anything I can do to help?"

"No, there's nothing you can do to help." he seethed.

You gulped, "Calm down, there must be something we can do...I'll, I'll accompany you..."

His eyes narrowed like he just heard a horribly misplaced joke. He let out an angry laugh and said, "Calm down?! Do you know how long I've been working on this? I finally had a breakthrough, but because of your good deeds now I'm gonna miss the deadline and the client is gonna murder me."

"I'm- I'm sorry!" you squeaked, tears brimming in your eyes.

If it was an ordinary day, the sight of you in tears would pain his heart. But this time, he only felt anger that only snowballed more and more with each word he uttered.

"Do you have any idea, how tired I am? I work day and night to provide for us, because I love you. I get it, that's really sweet that you want to help but a lot of times you're just being annoying and messing everything up. For Yoba's sake, I don't need you buzzing around me like a fly. For once, leave me alone and give me some peace and quiet!" he vented, words laced with venom.

"Don't even get me started on how you've been lazying around for weeks. But when I ask you what's wrong, you just say you're tired and then go back to sleep. What do you want me to do?! It's ridiculous!" Sebastian continued on and on, hand tangling and detangling his hair in stress. "It's so easy being you. Are you even taking our relationship seriously?"

You gasped in disbelief. Then, you took a deep breath to stabilize your emotions, "Sebastian, I don't want us to quarrel. I admit that I've been taking a break much longer than anticipated, but that's...I needed the break. Don't tell me you think I'm leeching off of you. I love you, so much that I can't put it into words. And I'll do anything to make you happy. Please,"

"Anything? Then go. Maybe this whole thing was a mistake."

Sebastian regretted what he said almost immediately, his eyes went wide as saucers as he looked at you and gauged your reaction.

You froze up. You couldn't hold the tears back anymore, as they escaped and fell freely to your cheeks.

"...Do you truly mean it?" you croaked, a sobbing mess. It was like a dam bursting out, your repressed emotions these days broke out right at that moment. You hadn't expected such words to be said by the man you love. You hoped so badly you heard things wrong, but judging by the look on his face it really was true.

Sebastian hurriedly wanted to take it back, to make things right so things can go back to normal once again, but there was nothing he could do. The words have been said, and no apology can remedy the situation. He wanted to take you in his arms and whisper thousands of apologies, to stop the tears from falling, to make you feel safe again, but he didn't think at that moment you wanted to be near him.

"Sebastian...marrying you is the best thing to ever happen in my entire life. I have no one else, you're the only one I have. But maybe I am too useless for you after all," You smiled self-deprecatingly through the tears. "I wished to Yoba that I would never hear that word from you. Alas."

"No, farmer, I- I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"

"It's okay, Sebastian. I understand," you said quietly.

You feel like a fool. You have been trying so hard, so damn hard to be the perfect wife and help your husband as much as you can. But who knew, you were only a bother to him. All along, you were only a frog at the bottom of the well yearning for the light.

Without any more words, you walked away. You got out of the house, breathing some fresh air and trying to stop your tears.

It felt suffocating, it hurt so damn bad. It felt like your heart just got ripped out of your chest, and ironically it was because of the person you loved the most in the world.

You put your hand on your belly, stroking it in hopes to pacify the little life inside. The little baby must be scared. Poor baby, mama is sorry for being such a useless mother.

For the next hour or so, you strolled around the vicinity just enjoying the scenery before the sun once again hides and the moon takes its turn to provide light. You were in the company of your own thoughts, but at least it was better than staying cooped up at home, facing your now enraged husband. Angry Sebastian is horrible. Even if he didn't mean those words, there had to be a semblance of truth somewhere.

To think that all this time, you were only a burden to him...

You sighed deeply, covering your face in your hands. The plan was to just go for a walk around the vicinity, but the feeling of being suffocated didn't go away. If anything, the sight of the town mocked you even further for your incompetence and inferiority. You wanted to go somewhere else...somewhere where no one could see her pathetic self.

That's it.

You'll go to Zuzu city.
