Work Text:

Day 14: I'm gonna make your life so sweet

Prompt: A policeman, a boat and a dangerous bird

One afternoon, they just wanted one afternoon by themselves.

No work, no interruptions, and no stands. Especially no stands.

It was a typical Saturday afternoon when Fugo and Narancia had decided to have a proper date. They hardly got a break like that one during the week, and they had really waited a long time for that day to arrive after what both had considered one of the worst weeks in terms of work. From a traitor attack in the middle of the night, to a visit from Giorno's Japanese cousin's friends.

As they both knew that they could probably be called to a mission at any moment, they decided to go to a restaurant not so far away from the quarters, but just far enough to have an environment free of distractions or stress. Therefore, when they arrived, both young men asked for a table and sat in an area that was somewhat separated from the rest of the people, wanting to chat without being interrupted.

A couple of minutes later the waiter arrived and asked for their orders, and as always Fugo ordered what they always got every time they were alone. When the waiter left, they both continued talking about what they had done that week, to catch up. However, after a few minutes, Narancia began to get restless.

"Hey, don't you think they're taking a while with our food?" Narancia asked, as he looked at other people's dishes.

"Maybe they’re short staffed  and that's why they are delayed,” replied the younger.

The black-haired nodded and sighed, still looking at someone else's food, until suddenly, in the blink of an eye, there was no longer any plate and only the bolognese noodles were on the table. That caught his attention, and he was confused for a few seconds, but finally decided to not overthink it, assuming it was surely the product of his imagination.

Then, someone from the adjacent table screamed, and that did get his attention.

"My necklace!" a woman exclaimed, as she checked her purse in case she might have drop it there. "Where the hell is the pure-gold necklace that my mother gifted me?!"

"Who the hell wears something that expensive for a place like this?" Pannacotta whispered, as he watched the scene.

"Poor lady…" said Narancia "Maybe someone stole it. Shouldn't we help her?" he asked, poking the blond's shoulder.

"We could but…" he paused. "That would ruin this date we've been waiting for," he said somewhat embarrassed. Yes, it sounded selfish, but after that hellish week, the last thing he wanted was to get involved in any kind of incident.

"I know, but-"

Again another scream was heard, this time from the other side of the restaurant. Now it came from a young woman with a wealthy aura.

"My ring!" yelled the girl, with her eyes almost popping out of her sockets.

"Okay, I think that two robberies in a row is not normal," said Fugo astonished.

"So, will we help?" Narancia asked again.

And just when Fugo  was going to answer, more people exclaimed that they had lost their belongings, which meant that if Fugo already suspected that it was not something normal, now he could be sure that they were under a stand attack. Not even the fastest thief in the world could mug so many people in such a short span of time. However, knowing what kind of power or what kind of stand they were up against could take a while, which they obviously didn't have.

At the moment Fugo was going to get up to tell Narancia that they were dealing with an enemy stand, he noticed something peculiar running under the tables. It was a tiny, yellow duckling with a red bow, although the strangest thing was to see that it had an antenna or something similar in its beak.

"Narancia, do you see the same thing that I see?" said the blonde.

Narancia looked at him, confused.

"What thing?" he answered, Fugo pointed under the tables, to the duck, which was running like there was no tomorrow. "Ehhh… where the hell did that duck come from?"

"I think he's the one to blame for the robberies" Fugo stated. "Look, it has an antenna on its beak."

"And why did you insinuate that it was the duck in the first place? I mean, you don't have proof of that and I don't think an innocent animal-"

Narancia shut up, since at that precise moment, as soon as the animal passed under their table, the bracelet he was wearing disappeared in the blink of an eye.

"I told you." Fugo said, with the slightest intention of mockery in his tone. Narancia could only accept his mistake and bent down to take the animal in his hands. Luckily, it did not seem averse to human contact.

"Come here little friend! Leave these people alone." Narancia tried to calm the animal by stroking its small head a bit. However, this gesture apparently had a way too positive impact on the duck, because on the table they were occupying, a lot of those objects that people were searching appeared abruptly.

"Hey, you there! "What are you doing with my wife's necklace?" shouted the husband of one of those affected, not giving Narancia time to even explain the situation (although it would have been impossible to believe anyway).

"They are the thiefs!" The wealthy girl answered. "Police! Someone call the police!"

"Dammit, let's get out of here." Fugo said, taking his boyfriend’s hand and running as far as possible from that restaurant. His quiet Saturday day should wait.

"Put that duck down, it already gave us enough troubles!" Pannacotta gasped as he took a breath. Apparently they were already far enough away from the crowd that wanted to see their heads roll, but not far enough from that insistent policeman who just three streets back wanted to shoot them with a gun. Didn’t he have anything else to do besides chasing down two alleged jewel thieves?

"I don't think he's doing it on purpose. Can we keep him?" asked the black-haired, looking at Fugo like a puppy in the rain, and Fugo already imagined that there was only one answer for that.

"I guess it can stay until we figure out what to do with its stand."

"You're the best." Smiling, Narancia rushed over to kiss him before hearing again the shouts of the policeman who had been following them. "God, just let me shoot him with Smith."

"No. We’re trying to keep a low profile."

"You ask for a lot considering that the duck is disappearing everything that shines."

"Don't make me remember that it disappeared our motorcycle..." growling, Fugo tried to think of an escape plan. Eventually he would have to figure out how to control that animal, but until then they had to get back to the house as soon as possible.

The screams were heard again, now closer. They had to escape, how complicated could it be?

Then Pannacotta noticed a small wooden boat floating on the shore from where they were.

Maybe…

"You know? This isn't that bad. It's just you, and me, and Little Snoop." Narancia smiled, watching the sunset. The small waves of the boat rocked them and that summer breeze was pretty romantic.

"If you're going to keep it, we’ll have to put it in an environment free from anything shiny, and I don't want to see him pacing out of his room." Fugo tried to stay bitter, but it was impossible. Yeah, maybe that day had not gone out as he had planned, and perhaps he had never thought about having a pet, but seeing Narancia so happy made him happy too.

"He loves you too." The black-haired said, as he caressed the back of his new pet. For him, that had definitely been one of their best dates.
