Work Text:
“Where is Boo?” Tubbo asked, scoping out the group. Philza, Wilbur, Techno, Tommy. Ranboo was meant to be there.
“Oh Toby, Ran isn’t coming.” Tommy said, “he texted Phil this morning. He had a really bad headache and was nauseous.”
Phil nodded, “he’s fine mate, just the effects of last night is all.”
“Last night?” Tubbo asked and Tommy whipped his head to look at Phil, before he looked back at Tubbo.
“Oh yeah he had a stupid zoom meeting to fit his old time zone so it was really late and you know how when he gets busy he forgets to eat and all that shit. We can check up on him after the vlog, okay?” Tommy asked and Tubbo nodded falling for the words easily since there was no reason he shouldn’t have not believed them.
Why would 4 of his friends lie to him about someone who means so much.
The vlog was going well but Tubbo wished Ranboo would just text him back. All he did was ask if he was doing okay and if there was anything he needed.
He must have fallen asleep to try and shake his headache or something. Tubbo was worrying over nothing, Ranboo was an adult, he could take care of himself.
Phil had gotten a call though and he flashed his phone to Tommy to show it was serious, Tubbo was guessing because Tommy shut the cameras off and usually he didn’t care that much about privacy.
Phil even walked away from the group.
…
Ranboo listened to the phone call go through and he let out a relieved sigh when Phil answered, “Phil.” Ranboo’s voice was scratchy and he was sniffling.
“Hey, mate, you don’t sound so good.” Phil said and Tubbo tilted his head. They could still hear Phil just enough.
“I sobered up and now I’m sad again.” Ranboo sighed.
“Yeah mate that’s what happens when the alcohol wears off- are you okay?”
“Honestly? I don’t know. It’s hard to be alone and I know that I’m an adult and everything but when I’m like this it’s just bad. And I lost my damn clean mask and the others are in the wash.”
“So it’s more than just what you called about last night, I’ll be right over mate. Just tell Tommy what’s going on while I go call for a ride to yours.” Phil started walking out of the place they were at and Tubbo was looking at Tommy with a worried look.
Tommy looked at the notification.
Ran > srry I stole Phil
Ran > the face, the feels, the loneliness
Ran > srry I’ll make it up to you
Toms > ran, just get some rest, Phil will take care of you and we will talk later okay?
Toms > but you rlly should talk to Toby, he doesn’t know Phil left to see you but he is worried about you feeling unwell
Ran > I will when I know I can
Ran > thank you
Tommy resumed the vlog saying Phil had to leave for his wife. No one would need to know otherwise.
It didn’t take long for Tubbo to figure out what Ranboo had been doing the night before when he got to go see him.
Currently Tubbo was leaning on Ranboo’s arm while Ranboo wore his black mask and kept Tubbo close. Tubbo could smell the alcohol radiating off his black t-shirt that he more than likely passed out in last night and in his panic that morning he didn’t change.
Tubbo was glad Phil could help but Tubbo was upset Ranboo didn’t call him. Ranboo always did. Every time but Ranboo didn’t want Tubbo to know he had been drinking and it was just odd.
Was he drinking for a reason Tubbo wasn’t supposed to know.
“I have uhm plans later.” Ranboo said, “but you can come with me or whatever you want if you wanted to stay.”
Tubbo tilted his head, “what plans?”
—
Oh there were a lot of people here. Tubbo looked around at all the drunk people at this banger of a party. Tubbo didn’t even know Ranboo would fit into a scene like this but a bunch of people were calling him by name and Tubbo was shocked to say the least.
Ranboo had a solid hold on his hand as he made drinks. Tubbo stuck to water and Ranboo stuck to.. a lot of anything but.
They were at the place for about 2 hours before Tubbo was being brought back to Ranboo’s. It was odd to see Ranboo so relaxed . He wasn’t one of those giddy and giggling drunks. He wasn’t even crazy. He was mellowed out and just enjoying everything.
They went back to the house and chilled on the couch for a while, cuddling like they always did but Tubbo could tell Ranboo had something to say the whole time.
“What?” Tubbo asked in a soft voice.
“You look beautiful.” Ranboo said and Tubbo chuckled a bit.
“You definitely had too much to drink. I should get you water and some medicine and some sleep.” Tubbo went to stand up but Ranboo grabbed his arm.
“No, I mean it. All the time. I always think about how beautiful you are, Toby.” Tubbo’s cheeks turned dark red but then he remembered this wasn’t normal Ranboo. He can’t take advantage of his friend. He refused.
“As much as I would love these things to be true, you need to stop saying them.”
“Would you let me kiss you?” Ranboo asked and Tubbo gave him a soft look.
“Ask me again in the morning and I’ll say yes but I cannot say yes right now. You aren’t sober and I will not risk hurting you. I’m sorry but please, let’s go to bed.” Ranboo let go of Tubbo’s arm and grabbed his hand as Tubbo led them through the house to get the things he needed and then they both laid in Ranboo’s bed.
Ranboo brushed the hair out of Tubbo’s face and Tubbo kissed Ranboo on the forehead before rolling away from him, waiting to hear soft breathing sounds of the dirty blonde sleeping. Months of sleep calls and months of sharing a bed helped him notice the signs.
Tubbo turned to face him again, “I do love you, I just hope you feel the same in the morning.”
-
Ranboo woke up with a groan and took the meds on the nightstand and downed the water. He looked at Tubbo and let out a breath, “I’m sorry.”
Tubbo blinked his eyes open and offered a sweet smile, “it’s okay, Boo. You weren’t sober.”
“Can I kiss you? Will you- will you let me kiss you?”
Tubbo nodded and Ranboo put a gentle hand on Tubbo’s cheek and pressed their lips together.
They both pulled away with smiles and Tubbo tucked his face into Ranboo’s chest, “I’m so glad you’re sober.”
