Dwalin smiled as you bounced into the hall, your hair flying with your movements.
"Adar, I have big news for you!" You chirped, nearly jumping on your feet as your father turned to you. Your eyes were shining and a bright smile was plastered onto your face, Kili standing an arm's length away, smiling as well. Dwalin had rarely seen you so happy and
"Well, I'm waiting," Dwalin grumbled, setting his axes down and turning to face you completely. You brushed your hair to rest on top of your shoulder and Dwalin's insides grew cold as he saw the courting bead resting there.
"Kili and I are courting, Adar, I'm so happy." Dwalin was still and silent for a while before he jumped at Kili, slamming the younger dwarf against a wall.
Dwalin hoisted Kili up by the collar of his jacket, ignoring your protests.
"Adar, don't!"
"I don't care that you are a prince or whatever,"Dwalin growled, voice lower than normal, eyes blazing with fire.
"If you hurt my daughter you won't live to see another day. I will chop off your limbs, one by one, and leave you to die. Understood?" Dwalin tightened his hold on Kili to emphasize his point. Kili nodded frantically, as he couldn't speak with the pressure squeezing on his neck. Dwalin stared at Kili with a look, pondering if he could be trusted. Apparently, he deemed that he could and he let go, letting Kili drop unceremoniously to the ground into a heap.
"What are you staring at?" He barked at the people who had gathered around, and they dispersed quickly as the head of guards glared at them. He gave a kiss to your cheek before he strode to return to the training grounds. He had to clear his head. And what would be a better way than to fight a few unsuspecting recruits?
You sprinted to Kili's side, who was rubbing his neck as he stood up from the ground. You launched yourself at him, making him wobble but he managed to keep his balance and remain standing up. Your arms were wrapped against his chest as you squeezed him. Your eyes were teary as you pulled away, cupping his face with your hands.
"Are you okay? Oh, mahal, I wouldn't have suggested this if I'd known this was going to be his reaction. I just thought he could see me as something other than his little girl when I said I was courting" You wrung your hands, clearly distressed, and Kili grabbed them, giving them a loving squeeze as he kissed the top of them.
"It is not your fault, Uzfakuh (my (greatest) joy). You did not usher him after me." You shook your head violently and the tears that you had tried to hold in slid down your cheeks as your hold on his hands tightened.
"But I know how protective he is of me!" You wailed, causing Kili to pull you against his chest as more tears slid down from your eyes, your breaths shifting into heaving sobs.
"I should have known he would not just take the news with open arms, I s-should have e-expected t-this." You muttered, your breath hitching in your throat as you fought the sadness inside you. You didn't want to start crying, because there would be no end for that a while.
"Y/N." Kili squeezed and released one of his hands from yours, using his fingers to tilt your chin upward. You looked into his brown eyes, filled with gentle love.
A small smile spread to your lips as his thumb traced your jaw, tracing gentle and small circles on the skin there.
"I do not blame you for this, nor do I blame Dwalin," Kili stated simply, still looking deeply into your eyes. You sniffed as he handed you a handkerchief, letting go of your hand with one final comforting squeeze. You dried your eyes and cheeks, squeezing the fabric tightly in your hand afterward. You had thought you were stronger than this, but your father had really scared you. He had reacted more drastically than ever before, and that scared you, as you loved Kili more than any other dwarf you had brought to meet him before. You really wanted your father to approve of your relationship, as he was all the family you had left. You would continue seeing Kili, even if he didn't, but you wished that it would not come to that.
"I partly knew this was going to happen," Kili confessed, a smile on his lips.
"I still remember the time you brought that dwarf to meet Dwalin when we were still living on the road. Your father didn't even have to stand up before the fool was running." You let out a teary laugh at his words.
You remembered the dwarf, he had been the first dwarf to ever court you. Your father had not reacted well, and the dwarf had scuttled off like his pants had been on fire when your father had made a move to stand up. You hadn't talked to him in a month after that, as the dwarf now refused to come anywhere close to you, but you had to admit, you had dodged a bullet. He had not been a pleasant person, and you couldn't understand what you had seen in him.
Content as you were now smiling, Kili offered you his arm, which you happily took. Your plans for eating lunch had been postponed after your father's reaction, but there was no way the two of you couldn't eat lunch a little later today.

Later that evening, you and Kili were sitting side by side on the sofa in your room. You were reading a book, entranced by the foreign worlds and adventures, and Kili was inspecting his weapons, making sure that every feather was straight in his arrows and that every knife was polished and ready for use if needed.
A knock sounded on your door and you lifted your head up from your book just to see your father enter. You squinted your eyes, setting your book down and crossing your arms.
"Come to slam Kili into more walls?" Your voice was cold and you could almost swear that you saw your father flinch at your words, but it was so subtle that you weren't sure.
"Actually, I am here to apologize." You whipped yourself around to face him, your eyebrows shooting up to your hairline.
"W-What?"
"I said that I am here to apologize." He repeated, grumbling with his words as saying them surely wasn't easy for him. You wouldn't have believed the words left his lips if you hadn't seen it this time with your own two eyes. You didn't know what to say, this wasn't anything like your father.
"I am sorry for... ye know, everything," Dwalin muttered, glancing at Kili, who nodded as he accepted the apology. You rolled your eyes at the stoic men in your life but accepted the kiss Kili pecked on your cheek before Dwalin pulled you to him.
You smiled as he embraced you into a hug, allowing him to wrap his arms around you tightly.
"I'm really happy that you approve of us, Adar." You muttered against his chest.
"But Kili and I would have continued courting even if you hadn't." Dwalin let out a deep, short laugh.
"I wouldn't have expected any less from you. The moment I saw the smile on your face I knew Kili was the One, I hadn't seen you wear that look before." You smiled at his words and hugged him tighter. Dwalin lifted his head from your shoulder to lock eyes with Kili.
"But if you hurt her, I will tear your limbs off."
"Adar!"
