Chapter 1: Heist

Chapter Text

Adrienne had one job, sneak into the museum, steal the diamond, and get out. What her job did not entail was to dodge the heroes who were fighting villains who decided to attack the museum on the same day, at the same time. She had already dropped down from the open sky light when she saw someone drop to the first floor. Adrienne could not tell if it was a hero or a villain but she did not want to stick around to find out.

She was near the natural science wing of the museum, so she would have to cross through the open middle area and risk getting caught or take the longer route through the Egyptian hallway, which connected to the natural science wing. Needless to say, she took the hallway. She was sneaking down the Egyptian hall's staircase, making sure no one saw her. She breathed a sigh of relief when there was no one visible. She quickly and quietly made it to the glass case that, according to the placard, held the biggest diamond in the world. She broke into the glass, there was no need to waste time to not trigger an alarm, grabbed the jewel and sprinted toward the cafeteria, where her escape vehicle lay in wait.

As she reached the doorway to the cafeteria, a big blast of fire stopped her in her tracks.

“Why won’t you stop moving!?” a gruff voice said.

“Nah, I’m good.” A cheerful voice chuckled.

The cafeteria was covered in flames, Adrienne wondered how the fire alarms hadn’t gone off yet. In the middle of the cafeteria there were two people fighting. The one creating the fire had on jeans that were burnt at the ends, not shirt, and was wearing a lot of metal rings on his hands. The other was an acrobat who had on a black skin-tight shirt and pants, similar to what Adrienne had on, but without Adreinne’s black gloves and pouch. The acrobat was dodging the flames that spewed out of the man’s hands. Both of them were right in the way of Adrienne’s escape route. The fire made it nearly impossible with the flames in the way.

There was a door that led to the kitchen close to where Adrienne was. Ohio could wait a few minutes. Adrienne made her way through the door and when she was hiding behind the lunch counter the acrobat tumbled over the counter, hitting a fryer and spilling oil all across the kitchen floor. Adrienne and the acrobat quickly made eye-contact before Adrienne ran to the other side of the kitchen as another blast of fire quickly engulfed the front of the kitchen. The guy jumped over the counter to see if he killed the acrobat when he was surprised by a kick from the acrobat. From the floor the guy blasted at the acrobat, while she avoided the flame she fell into another fryer and spilled oil all over the floor. The guy roared in frustration and turned the oil into fuel for his flames and the kitchen was quickly covered in flames.

The smoke blocked Adrienne’s vision and she was unable to look for any escape. The smoke was suffocating. Adrienne laid on the cool tile trying to take in as much oxygen as she could before she passed out. The acrobat and the guy were still fighting but it eventually stopped. Adrienne was having a hard time breathing.
