Summary
One innocent conversation can end up changing the course of history.
Regulus Black feels like he's been pushed around his entire life, forced to submit to the will of his parents, drifting without purpose through a very unhappy existence. But after a strange conversation with Lily Evans right before Christmas 1976, Regulus decides to draw the line at becoming a Death Eater, and runs away from home rather than obey his mother this time.
Finally free to do what he wants, Regulus has no idea what he DOES want, it's never been an option before. He'd better figure it out though, because his leaving the Black family fold has caused him a whole heap of trouble, though admittedly he finds it easier to deal with than usual thanks to a mysterious wand he found in his father's study the night he left, a wand the color of charcoal.
All he'd asked Lily that night was how to make friends, but he'll end up with a lot more than that. And he might also realize that, at the end of the day, submission isn't necessarily a BAD thing, as long as it's HIS choice to do it, not somebody else's.
