Chapter Text
Today was not a good day for the Tommy Innit community.
Why, you may ask? Well, to put it simply, he got fired from the store he worked in. But it really wasn't his fault this time! It was the asshole who came in and started ordering him around and then had an attitude about it that made Tommy loose his temper! What’s wrong with some people?! Do they literally not have anything better to do?!
So yeah, overall not a good day. That said, he did still need to find a job as soon as possible so that him, Tubbo and Ranboo can pay the rent. Living in district nine wasn't easy for anyone, let alone th who barely have enough money together to feed themselves. So yes, he needed to get himself back on track and find another job before their savings ran dry. Which was easier said than done.
Sighing, he continues making his way to their apartment, when he overhears a couple of other kids talking about something which sparked his interest.
As quietly as he could, he got closer to the alleyway they were in to try and hear in on th He couldn't hear a lot since most of it was low voices but what little he heard did cause him to become even more interested. The words ‘hero’ caught his attention. You see, big man Tommy wasn't your usual civilian, no, he was a villain. So any talk about the heroes usually interested him. He started leaning in closer in an attempt to better understand what they were saying.
Apparently, a few heroes were looking for interns to help them with paperwork.
And that is how he got the best idea ever!
Deciding he will apply, he takes out his phone to message Tubbo that he will be home later than usual.
After getting a phew angry texts back asking what he's doing (that he ignored), he turned around and happily started making his way to the Hero HQ.
--
Finally arriving, he takes a look around at the building before him and feels a bit hesitant to get inside.
This place was far too fancy for him.
The walls were practically covered in gold, with a few paintings here and the And the windows weren't just your regular windows, they were huge! And it was very well decorated, even if only a bit ostentatious. It was like something straight out of a fairytale.
There wasn't even a spot of dust. He doesn't want to imagine how fucking long it takes to clean everything. And it was only the first floor out of like, 15! Rich pricks.
It isn't fair for the tower to look like this while district nine is crumbling apart almost everyday.
Shaking his head, he looks around for the receptionist. She should probably be here somewhere, right? Maybe she'll help him with the application. Yeah, that'll work.
Just as he was looking around, he spotted someone coming down the stairs. As expected, they looked like some kinda rich dude.
Distracted, he didn't notice someone coming up behind him.
“Hello, young man! How may I help you?”
Tommy blinked. “Uh, hi. I'm here for the internships?"
“Oh, of course! Follow me."
Assuming that this was the receptionist, he reluctantly followed her into a different room. This one had a desk with several files in front of it and two chairs sitting across it.
He sat down next to one of them.
The receptionist took her seat behind her desk and cleared her throat.
"We will be working through the applications today so please take note and prepare accordingly."
Nervously, Tommy nodded
She looked up at him expectantly. "So, tell me about yourself! You mentioned wanting to intern at the hero HQ, correct?" She asked, looking curious and a little worried.
Ahh... Shit. He forgot about the interviewing part. "Well umm. He stuttered. "Yes."
She nodded in understanding.
"Alright, so why don't you start by telling us your name."
He looked confused for a moment before remembering. "My name is... um.." Oh yeah. His alias is supposed to be Thomas Beloved. God, if he keeps forgetting important stuff like this he might just become another Ranboo. Not that it was a bad thing!
"...Thomas. My name is Thomas Beloved."
"That's an interesting name, Thomas," said the receptionist. Perhaps he should stop calling her 'the receptionist' in his head while she clearly has a name tag.
Not that it matters either way, since she doesn't know his real one yet anyway.
"Anyways, now, you seem rather eager for this internship. Why would that be?"
He shrugged. "Well, to be honest with you, I really need a job. And the heroes are cool so I thought I might as well give it a try." That was a lie. Except for the first part. He really needed a job or Tubbo would kill him. Not literally, but you get the point.
Still, he felt that if he said that, she'd call him rude and send him off to go somewhere else. So instead, he just shrugged again.
"Very well. If you decide to take our offer, please drop by our office before you leave."
With that, she handed him a pile of papers and left the room.
For a split second, he felt relief, but it faded away immediately after realising that he had to fill in the papers.
Silently cursing the receptionist for giving him so many papers, he got to work.
By the end of the day, he felt like absolute shit. He couldn't believe he had filled in so much information, there wasn't even an empty space! The damn forms just wouldn't stop piling on top of each other. He just wanted to go home already.
Picking up all the papers, he got up from his seat and left the room to go look for the receptionist. He still needed to turn in his application. And the constant buzzing from his phone did not help at all.
When he finally arrived at the reception area, the receptionist looked up from her work. Her face lit up as she noticed him. "Ah! You're finished!"
“Hey,” he greeted, a little sheepishly. "So... I've filled out all the forms but I don't actually know where I'm supposed to put them."
"Oh, my bad. I guess i forgot to tell you. No worries, you can just leave them here on my desk." She says while gesturing to the neat desk.
“Thanks,” Tommy grumbled under his breath as he walked over to put the papers on the desk. He sighed once he sat down and stared at it in silence for a moment.
Does he finally get to leave now? Or would that be rude? Why did everything have to be so damn complicated? This is why he left these kind of situations to Tubbo. He seems to always know what to do. A skill that Tommy had tried to learn over the years but hasn't succeeded yet. He sighs again.
Maybe he can just stay a bit longer.
As he continued staring at the paper, he realised the receptionist was staring at him curiously.
"Sorry," he mumbled, trying to play it cool but knowing he failed.
The woman smiled. “It's alright. If you're done here then you can leave." She says before continuing her conversation with another customer.
Sitting up straighter, Tommy got up and left, closing the door behind him. Once he was outside, he sighed again before starting to walk towards home for the second time. This time he wouldn't make anymore He knew how tired and exhausted he was. He just hoped that he wouldn't fall asleep at the train station. And maybe the night patrol would help clear his head.
As he got on the train, he decided to text Tubbo. However, that seemed to be a mistake because as soon as he opened his phone and sent an 'Im still alive' message, he got a call from Tubbo.
"Tommy, what the fuck did you do."
"How come whenever you call you always assume the worst, big man?"
He can hear his roommate groan from the other side.
"Forgive me for not assuming the worst when you vaguely say you're gonna be home later. Usually you try and get home as fast as possible. So tell me, what did you do?"
Yikes. That's not good.
"So uhhh… how do I put this..." As Tommy thinks of how to word the fact that he got fired, Tubbo speaks up again.
"I swear if you blew up another warehouse for one of your stupid experiments you're gonna wish you were dead."
"I would never! You know me, the great Tommy Innit, wife haver and destroyer of men. I would never do that. How dare you assume such a thing?!" Exclaims Tommy, getting a few weird looks from other passengers on the train.
"Right. What did you do then?"
“So this may sound bad at first, but I promise you I know what I’m doing!”
He can hear his friend sigh and start typing on his computer or some shit. Listen, Tommy’s not a hacker. He has no idea what a hacker does. All he knows is how to steal and not get caught.
That was basically the extent of his knowledge as far as hacking goes.
"I somehow doubt that. Knowing you it's probably bad."
Finally finding an empty seat, Tommy sits down and tried to explain to Tubbo what happened. It was going really well too! Until it wasn't.
"You fucking idiot!"
"Tubbo, calm down. It was a minor misunderstanding!"
"Minor? Minor!? You literally just lost your job! Do you not realise that you could've been sued?! And to top it off you went to apply for an internship for the heroes! Are you out of your mind?!"
"I didn't mean to get fired!" He tries explaining as calmly as he can. "Why does it matter, anyways? Working for the heroes will get us more money! And important information too!" At least he hopes that's what they'd be.
"And what will you do when they find out you're a villain?! What then?"
Honestly, Tommy didn't have an answer. But he figured that at that point all he could do was hope for the best.
"Tubbo, they won't find out! I'll be careful. Besides, what are the chances they actually hire me."
"You know what? Fine, but if you get caught I'm not helping."
"Okay. Thanks Tubbo."
“Yeah whatever."
With the conversation over, Tommy pockets his phone and leans back in his chair. The ride always seems never ending but in reality it takes about 30 minutes at least, depending on how slow the train goes.
However, he still doesn't understand the appeal of the trains. There are no windows, so no people, nothing to look at and there isn't any music playing. It's just dead silence.
Overall, he would rate it a 4/10. It could've been so much worse.
Before he even realized it, the train came to a halt. He quickly stood up and exited the train, making sure to grab his backpack before leaving.
Once he stepped outside, he saw that it was raining. Great. Just what he needed. Not only is he going to walk back home job-less, but also completely soaked in water.
As quickly as he could, he sprinted towards their apartment. He was almost there and he could feel his feet slipping a couple of times. Still, he was determined and managed to reach the entrance of their building in record time.
As soon as he was inside, he ran straight for the elevator, taking care not to slip any further than he already almost did.
When the elevator reached the third floor, he practically flew out and into the apartment, dropping his stuff on the way.
He left his backpack by the door and a few seconds later he threw himself onto their couch. His muscles ached slightly, but he ignored the pain and relaxed.
After a few minutes of silence, he heard footsteps coming from the kitchen and a voice calling out for him.
Turning his head, he saw that Ranboo was standing there with a cup of coffee in hand and looking concerned.
"Dude, are you okay? You look like you just ran a marathon."
A laugh erupted from his lips. Of course Ranboo had noticed that he was soaked.
"Well yes, Ranboo, I'm fine! I just took a little trip to the Hero HQ! That's all." He said sarcastically.
"That sounds exhausting." Ranboo said.
Tommy just waved him off as he slowly pulled himself off the couch.
Ranboo set the drink he was holding down onto the table.
"You sure you're okay? Tubbo told me what happened."
No, he definitely doesn't.
"Nah, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me, big man." Tommy gave him a reassuring smile, hoping it would assure him. Ranboo worries too much for his own good.
Ranboo raised a brow as he approached the blonde and patted him gently on the shoulder. He then turned around and left, leaving Tommy alone. Well, not entirely alone, Tubbo was probably around here somewhere. He would usually go and annoy him but today he isn't feeling like it. He'll probably just go to sleep and hope he gets the job.
Hoping not to catch Tubbo's attention, he slowly walks to their shared bedroom and promptly passes the fuck out.
