Chapter Text
To my dear friend, Benjamin,
Good morning. I know that by the time you read this letter I will be gone back home, and that is a fact that I regret immensely. I am shocked that I was capable of graduating at the same time as you, a man who is near comically studious and intelligent. Due to this unfortunate fact, I could not have a proper good-bye with you. My parents have decided I am to take a trip around the world, to learn about various legal systems. France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria-Hungary… and while I know you are going to soon be living in Germany, I will not be able to see you there.
It would have been the greatest honour for me to help you move into your new residence. To ensure that you are living in comfort, that you have ample food and water, and a bit of money to your name.
I know that the two of us had quite a difficult time getting accustomed to our living situations—the flatmates we had been assigned were far from kind to us, and I hope to prevent you from a fate such as that. Though, that being said, the two of us would have never connected as well as we have without such a drastic push.
I must confess, my dear friend, that I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to be your friend. The years we spent together, the relationship the two of us formed, the knowledge we have shared with one another, that has been a greater blessing than I could have ever hoped for.
The both of us struggle enough to make friends as it is, that I must request that you continue correspondence with me. I know I have told you my addresses before, but as I know you are forgetful I took the liberty of writing them down on the final page in your notebook. I do hope you forgive my impudence, indulging in such a private object of yours, but I hoped my foolish risk taking will pay off in the continuation of our friendship.
You remain to me, as always, my dearest friend.
Tentatively yours,
Barok van Zieks
