Work Text:
Enid emerges from the woods, face bleeding, bruises forming across her body. She had just fought the Hyde, and she had wolfed out on her own. For that she should be extraordinarily proud. But she just felt numb.
She could not feel victorious until she knew that Wednesday was safe.
Thinking of Wednesday brought a smile to Enid’s face. Something about the dark and brooding goth girl filled her heart with joy. Whenever Enid was by Wednesday’s side, she felt like her real, true self.
God. That was cliché.
Enid reaches the crowd of students, and Ajax rushes to her side. She smiles in gratefulness, and when her friend asks if she’s okay she nods.
Enid walks through the crowd, and they part for her. She meets the eyes of many of her peers, and they nod in respect. She sees everyone except for the one person she wants to see most.
“Where’s Wednesday?” Enid asks, voice on the verge of breaking. Nobody answers.
Tears prickle at the corners of the wolf’s eyes, and her bottom lip trembles. She almost lets them flow, bus someone gasps.
She looks towards the school and breaks into a run.
Xavier moves to stop her.
“Enid!” He calls. “Enid, stay back! That could be anyone!”
Enid knows better. The shadowy figure approaching them was to be Wednesday. Enid would recognize Wednesday’s quick and quiet footsteps anywhere. She guessed that was a bit creepy. Whatever. Who cares.
Enid runs towards Wednesday, and she resists the urge to wrap her friend in a hug. She lets out a sob, relieved to see that one of the most important people to her was alive.
“You were amazing out there, Enid,” Wednesday says, and her voice is low and gravelly. Enid thinks that Wednesday may be on the verge of tears as well.
“Thank you,” Enid says, and suddenly she can’t handle it any longer. She cups Wednesday’s face in her hands and kisses her, fiercely.
Enid jumps back and clears her throat. She forces herself not to think of how good Wednesday’s cold lips felt on hers. She also definitely does not think about how Wednesday tasted like dark chocolate. Her favorite.
“Sorry,” Enid gushes. “You just look so beautiful, and I’m so glad you’re alive and safe, and I think I’m in love with you but if you don’t share the feelings that fine-“
Wednesday grabs Enid by the collar, pulling her into another kiss.
When Wednesday pulls back a hint of a smile tugs on her lips.
“Oh-oh.” Enid says, then she starts laughing. “We are so stupid.”
“Thank you, Enid,” Wednesday says. “You fought for me out there. If it wasn’t for you, I could’ve died. Not that death would be particularly unenjoyable, but I think you get my point.”
“That’s sweet and all, but that’s not what I care about right now. We just kissed twice, and I’m kind of losing my mind. Do you love me?”
“Yes, Enid, I am madly in love with you. I have been since we had that fight and you moved out. I realized I couldn’t live without you, and my feelings for you have been growing since then. Now, there is a large group of people watching us right now, and they’re probably wondering what happened over there. I have a lot of explaining to do,” Wednesday says, then she stares at her feet.
“I love you, Enid” Wednesday says.
Enid smiles, then she tilts forward and kisses Wednesday one last time.
“Okay. You can go now. Love you too,” Enid gushes.
Wednesday nods, then she walks towards the rest of the students, who bombard her with questions. Enid watches this and she breaks into a giant grin.
