Work Text:
"Connor, will you marry me? In the business." Schlatt laughs when he asks this. "Keeps the taxes down."
Connor looks up from where he's sitting on the floor with an eyebrow raised.
"Really?" He asks, tilting his head. "Okay, sure. Why not?"
There's no wedding, no kind of celebration or ceremony. It's just business, after all. They get their paperwork done and that's that.
Connor can't help but fiddle with the ring on his finger though. His chest feels tight for some reason.
"Love you, man."
Connor shoves Schlatt's shoulder playfully. "Dude, gay."
"And?" Schlatt hums in amusement.
Connor rolls his eyes as Schlatt drapes an arm over his shoulder.
"I love you," Connor mumbles. His face is buried in Schlatt's chest, pressed close to him as they lie on that bed that's a bit too small to fit two grown men, but whatever. "Like for real."
Schlatt laughs and brushes the hair out of the smaller hybrid's eyes.
"Yeah," he replies. "I know, Con."
"Sorry," Connor says.
"For...?"
"Nothing. Sorry."
Schlatt rolls his eyes. "Uh-huh."
He laughs, and Connor scoffs in indignation. "It's not funny. I mean it, you know."
"Yes, I know!" Schlatt laughs again. "I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at the idea that you think I'd have a problem with that. I asked you to marry me for a reason, you know."
"Uh, yeah?" Connor tilts his head. "Taxes?"
"No, not taxes." Schlatt pulls Connor a bit closer. "Not taxes, dumbass."
"Ah..." Connor hums quietly. "I didn't realize."
"Okay, well, at first it was for taxes. At least that's what I told myself." Schlatt continues.
He scratches behind Connor's ear, and the hedgehog hybrid leans into the touch happily.
"Well, whatever it is, I don't mind." Connor yawns. "I'm just happy to be with you. Even if you are an annoying cunt sometimes."
"I'm your annoying cunt." Schlatt teases, sticking his tongue out.
"Yeah, sure."
