Work Text:
Sae knew that he was probably biting off more than he could chew when he picked Shidou back in the U-20 game, but who knew that those effects would still be affecting him now? A few months after blue lock ended Shidou is still a pain in his ass, but this company isn’t something he minds, well most of the time.
“What?”
“Let’s go shopping together, Sae-chan!”
Sae gave Shidou his usual disinterested look.
“No.” Sae said sternly, “And stop calling me that you demon .”
“Please! I won't be a bother I swear!”
Sae swore he said no at least a hundred times. So why? Why was he at the mall with Shidou?
He was going to need a leash, and they haven’t even entered the building yet.
Shidou was like a dog. Every noise attracted him from the meows of cats and tweets of birds, all making him wander off. Sae was going to have to go to mall security and report a missing “ dog ” soon.
Sae was here to get a new pair of pants, and maybe a few shirts. One to two stores then he was leaving.
“Come on, demon.”
Shidou perked up at the sound of Sae’s voice, leaving the bird he was feeding bread, and waltzing his way over.
Wait?
Where did he get the bread from!?
Sae could only sigh.
This was going to be a long day.
It was common for people to recognize Sae in public. Usually at least one approached him every so often when he was out, but this changed today, because his guard dog was baring his fangs. The one benefit of having Shidou around was that he was scary, he’d stare , give a deadly stare , to anyone that even glanced in Sae’s direction.
Definitely a dog.
“In here.”
Sae frequented this store. The jeans they sold were high-quality, and they always had his size in stock.
“What’re you looking for, Sae?”
“Pants.”
Sae browsed the different designs and colors. He didn’t like light-wash blue jeans, and he didn’t like jeans that were ‘too’ flashy .
So, Sae ended up picking out two pairs of jeans that he probably already owned. One black pair with no rips and one dark-wash pair also without rips.
Though he couldn’t check out because his dog had wandered off. Shidou was a huge hassle. He wasn’t bothering Sae with words like he did the entire drive here, but he was agitating him with his actions.
He was about to take his phone out and call Shidou. Well, unblock him first, he’d blocked his number last night, while Shidou was sitting next to him.
The two were watching something on TV, and the entire time Shidou was sending him, iMessage games? He continued to send them begging Sae to play. So, to solve the problem he blocked him.
He blocked Shidou pretty often.
“Sae!”
Two larger arms wrapped around his neck before immediately being rejected.
“Not in public you dumbass!” Sae hissed, “Paparazzi? Fans? Don’t be stupid demon.”
“In private?”
Sae ignored him, walking towards the checkout. He placed the two pairs of jeans on the counter, but Shidou placed a shirt, receiving a glare from Sae.
“You didn’t let me finish. That shirt is for you!”
“I’m paying?”
“Yeah! But I thought you’d look cute in that shirt, Sae!”
“I also didn’t bring my wallet..”
Sae sighed. He’s sighed a lot today, and he’s probably going to sigh a lot more.
The shirt wasss, questionable? It had too much going on. Black lines? Honestly, the only thing Sae could see was the many hearts that were red and have rhinestones.
Nothing Sae would pick out, but he’d bought it, only to keep the dog from whining and complaining.
Despite making one stop, after exiting the store Sae hastily walked to get coffee. Shidou was exhausting. He was going to need ten more cups today, but one worked for now.
“Do you want anything?”
“I’ll get whatever you get, Sae!”
Sae nodded, ordered, paid, and they were off and walking to the next store.
“This is so bitter!”
Sae sighed. If anyone were to take a shot every time he sighed today the result would be death from alcohol poisoning.
“That’s what I get every time demon. If you won't drink it, I will.”
“No, I will! ‘Cause, it’s Sae’s favorite!”
I won't say it, but Sae definitely repeated an action he had just done prior.
Now Sae was looking for shirts. He had grabbed another white-button up shirt that he wore in his average everyday wear, and a sweatshirt, Shidou pointed out some gray basketball-shorts and Sae grabbed those as well.
This time instead of wandering the store alone. Shidou followed Sae, and helped him pick out clothes, he did a decent? job. He definitely helped Sae buy a few things, but a good majority was questionable.
Around an hour and a half after arriving the two were leaving Shidou carrying his bags. They’d finished the coffees and thrown them out, and since Shidou forced Sae to allow him to tag along, he was carrying all four bags they left with.
“You’re driving us home. Tired.”
Sae opened the trunk of the car, Shidou hurled the bags and made his way to the driver's seat. Usually Sae was against Shidou driving his car—because it was expensive—but this once he’d allow it.
The radio was quiet more as background or white noise to Sae. He rested his head against the window and shut his eyes.
…
“Wake up Sae.”
Shidou nudged his shoulder while repeating this sentence until Sae slowly stirred into consciousness.
“‘Mm?”
“We’re here Sae.”
No. No , they were not home, that was a lie, the two were at a rather expensive looking restaurant.
“I am not your sugar daddy, Ryuu.”
“You finally called me Ryuu today!”
Sae sighed. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, he pulled down the sun visor, opened the mirror, and fixed his hair.
“I’ll pay Sae.” He said, his tone was softer, and his hand made its way to Sae’s which was in his lap, “This day is going to be a date! This is part two!” He interlaced their fingers and beamed.
It was only 17:00. Sae sighed, this was really going to be a long day, although, food was good.
Wait .
“I thought you didn’t have your wallet, demon.”
“Left it in the car.”
He held up the wallet and smirked, showing his fangs.
“Let’s go, I'm hungry!”
Shidou unlaced their fingers and bounced out of the car. He happily walked inside Sae trailing behind him.
No. No.
What could Sae have possibly done wrong? It was like he was being cursed. This restaurant had a bar on the inside,
No the bar is not the issue.
The issue is the middle aged—middle aged looking man with black hair, green underneath, facial hair, and two broads on either side sitting at said bar.
No the man was not middle aged.
“Oi! Sae!”
Nope !
This waitress needed to hurry and seat them.
“Table for tw—?“
“Yes!”
Sae hurriedly pushed Shidou behind the waitress, following her to their table swiftly.
Sae grabbed the menus and pulled Shidous head down to the table roughly. Both ducked down hiding behind the menus.
“Sae! We’re like Sandy and Danny!”
“Huh?”
“From that one movie. They did this.”
“Shut up with your stupid movie references.”
Sae knew what he was talking about, an older, American movie, Shidou had forced him to watch after buying it.
Shidou continued to giggle like a little girl as the two hid from the other nuisance.
The two menus were lifted and a meddlesome voice filled Sae’s ears, “Hey lovebirds!”
Oliver Aiku
He uninvitedly plopped himself next to Sae, “Why've you been ignoring my texts. I was trying to get all the old U-20 guys back together. We could go out—party!”
“That’s exactly why.”
“Yeah, and if Sae didn’t go I wouldn’t have either!”
Aiku laughed and Sae sighed.
“I didn’t know you two still had this going on!” He said suggestively, pointing his finger at both of them back and forth.
“Don’t phrase it like that.” Sae groaned resting his head on the table.
“He’s not wrong.”
“Ryuusei!” Sae banged his head against the table, it wasn’t unknown, but it was worse to confirm it, “Don’t you have women waiting for you Aiku?”
“Eh, they can wait. I’m seeing my old pals!”
Sae wanted to bang his head against the table once more.
The waitress was here once more. Sae was internally thanking the world.
“Can I get you guys something to drink?”
“One strawberry shake and two straws.”
Nevermind
Sae was still resting his head on the table, a never-ending string of groans and sighs leaving his lips as these two nuisances continued to exist.
“Can you leave now Aiku,”
Thank you Ryuusei!
“Sae and I are on a date.”
Nevermind.
“Oh?” Aiku grabbed a pen from his pants pocket and a napkin, he wrote something down then handed it to him. “Force red here to get out of the house sometimes. I’ll let you know if I plan the outing with the U-20 guys.”
He stood up promptly, muttering a bye.
Sae sat up again and he sighed.
“Don’t look so down Sae-chan.” He turned his head seeing the waitress return with said strawberry shake, “Look!”
She set in on the table in the middle of the two receiving opposite reactions, a scowl from Sae and a smile from Shidou.
“Are you ready to order?”
“A few more minutes please.” Shidou answered, “Isn’t this romantic Sae?”
“No.”
Shidou placed his lips at the straw in front of him. He mumbled, “‘mon.” as Sae didn’t mirror his actions.
“We’re in public you horny demon.”
“Please..”
Sae sighed, “Will you stop if I do?”
“Can’t promise anything but I’ll try.” He winked.
Sae placed his lips at the straw in front of him, both drinking at the same time. The shake was good— too good. He drank for a few more seconds before pulling off.
Sae could feel the heat on his cheeks. He was never big on public displays of affection, but maybe just maybe he could excuse this one.
“That’s good!”
“It is.” Sae agreed, he grabbed his menu and began to browse looking for food, “Find something to eat.”
Shidou immediately grabbed his menu, taking his eyes off of Sae, who'd he’d been admiring.
Sae made it his personal goal to order the most expensive meal on the menu, oh and you bet he did. He also ordered some appetizers, but that wasn’t important, what was, was Shidou’s face as he saw the price.
Once the waiter walked away Sae couldn’t hold back his laughter.
Shidou’s expression quickly softened soon after, “If spending all my money gets you to laugh then I’d do it a million times.”
“Stop being a sap.” Sae grumbled, “That takes the fun out of it.”
“You’re so cute when you laugh, Sae.”
Sae turned his head away from Shidou who was now laughing instead. He was never going to be able to take his revenge, it was impossible for Sae to do anything that’d piss Shidou off.
He took another sip of the shake, Shidou not wasting a chance to drink at the same time, his lips meeting the straw at the same time as Sae’s.
“Sap.”
“ You love it.”
Sae rolled his eyes.
“Can I annoy your brother when we get back to the house?”
“Why?” Sae asked, “Even if I said no you’d do it anyway.”
“I’m feeling sweet tonight, Sae. Want your permission.”
Sae once again rolled his eyes, “Sure. If you two get in a fist fight I’m going to bed.”
“Aye aye, Sae!” He brought his hand up to his forehead and saluted, “No fist fights.”
Sae couldn’t help hiding the smile that graced his lips. Shidou was so stupid . He didn’t mind though, not at all, the only person who was stupid but in a way that wasn’t annoying.
Well sometimes.
He saw Shidou reach for his pockets, fumbling for his phone. Once he grabbed it he aimed it at Sae who, in response, covered his face and cheeks.
“No pictures.”
Shidou continued to laugh while repeating, “Just one. Let me see you. Sae!”
They were definitely being too loud, but they soon stopped after food was placed on the table.
Appetizers .
Shidou immediately dug in. He was munching and crunching, he was a loud eater. Sae had noticed it in the past, but it was more evident now, he was practically fighting the food with each chew, and claiming the win in each overdramatic swallow.
“This—shis—good Shae.” He said between bites.
“Swallow first you dog.”
Shidou saluted him once more and he swallowed his food.
“So obedient .”
Shidou grinned at Sae as the two continued to eat. Soon the main course was here, and Shidou had relaxed more.
Shockingly
It was safe to say that Sae was sighing far less now.
“You should let me spend Christmas at the Itoshi household this year.”
Nevermind
Sae sighed.
Although he wouldn’t mind. You know who would? Rin. Rin would probably stab him at the mention of Shidou, much less the mention of him spending Christmas at the house.
“Do you want me to die?”
Shidou cackled, “RinRin needs to warm up to me. Plus I come around the house all the time! I mean I am his future brother-in-law after all.”
“Mm, we’re engaged now?”
“Only if you want to be.”
“I’ll think about it. I need a ring Ryuu, I’m not cheap.”
“Oh trust me I know.” He smirked, “I’ll bathe you in more than just money, you’ll get gifts, affection, I’ll take you all over the world, and you’ll never have to lift a finger again, trust me!”
“Mhm. I’ll keep that in mind.” Sae murmured, “Does sound good. But I don’t know if I can trust you to do my work for me.”
Shidou smiled.
Shidou surprisingly paid.
The two walked out of the restaurant and back to the car. Shidou is still driving. Sae resting in the passenger seat.
Shidou has one hand on the steering wheel, the other gripping Sae’s thigh.
Usually—he's lying— Sae would have pushed him away— he would not— but since he was so tired he could only allow Shidou to do as he will.
Sae put his hand atop Shidou’s, who flinched thinking he was getting rejected , and laced their fingers.
He sighed into the touch continuing to rest his eyes.
This was the first time tonight Sae had sighed for a good reason.
Well .
If Sae wasn’t in denial he’d probably have told Shidou he had a great evening, and he’d admit that he really likes his company, but that’s something he’ll keep to himself until he’s good at feelings.
They stopped once more. Shidou put the car in park, eyes on Sae as his eyes fluttered open.
“Where are we?”
It was dark by now, 19:00-19:30?
“Park. Wanted to spend some time with you before we go back to the house.” Shidou mumbled, “Rin’s a rain cloud, bringing down everyone's mood.”
“He’s not that bad, maybe to you, you piss him off easily.”
“Yeah yeah. Enough Rin talk let’s go!”
The park was empty, it was dark, only lit up by streetlights and the moon above, the park was decently big, a playground, swings, and a large field, paths into woods, and plenty of benches all over.
It wasn’t hot outside, Sae was extremely cold, he already ran cold, and now he was out in the cold.
Shidou pranced over to a tree before taking his jacket off and lying it on the grass for the two to sit on. Despite all of the open area the two were in such close proximity if they both wanted to fit on the jacket.
“How are you not cold?”
Shidou was in a black t-shirt and jeans, and he didn’t even bat an eye to the extreme coldness that on the other hand, had overtaken Sae.
“Hm? It’s not that bad. You cold Sae?”
“Are you stupid?”
Shidou chuckled, he couldn’t blame Sae, the redhead was shivering, his teeth were chattering, he had his arms around his knees as he tried to keep himself as warm as possible. He was wearing more slightly clothes than Shidou, similar pants, but instead of a short-sleeve, he wore his typical white button up. Usually he’d wear that maroon?-pinkish turtleneck sweater, but that was at home in the wash.
“Sorry! Yeah I am stupid.”
Sae felt warmth around him, pulling him into a hug. Sae felt himself wrapped his arms around Shidou’s neck pulling his closer.
“How are you so warm?”
It was more of a rhetorical question but Shidou answered anyway, “Think I run warm I guess.”
Sae hummed, resting his head on Shidou’s shoulder.
“You’re not allowed to call me a sap for this, ‘kay?”
He pulled back and flashed Sae his pinky.
“A pinky promise?”
Shidou nodded, “If I don’t do this you’ll say something like, cant promise you anything.”
Sae rolled his eyes.
“Just tell me.”
“No!”
“Ryuusei…”
“Not until you pinky promise!”
“You’re acting like a child,” Sae sighed, he met Shidou’s bright pink eyes, they were practically begging him just to do it, “..fine.”
He quickly met his finger with Shidou’s. A large grin spread across Shidou’s face as the promise was sealed.
He wrapped his arm around Sae, who only reciprocated—
this is not true,
because he was cold.
Again not true.
He rested his head on Shidou’s shoulder, who only pulled him closer after not being rejected.
“I love spending time with you,” He kissed Sae’s forehead, “Moments like this are my favorite..,”
“when it’s just me and you, you’re so enticing Sae. You know that?” His lips moved down to Sae’s cheek leaving a wet open mouthed kiss that elicited a pop! “You draw me in. You’re like a black-hole, in a good way though. I’d let you invade my galaxy anyday!”
Sae punched Shidou in the thigh gently. This only made him laugh further.
“I know I sound stupid. I’m just ramblin’.” Shidou’s face was now placed in front of Sae’s, “I know I’m not stupid about loving you though, Sae.”
He closed the gap, meeting Sae’s lips gently. Usually he’d kiss him rougher—with more passion — desire .
But right now, he wanted to take his time with Sae.
He pulled away, “I love you, Sae.” he mumbled meeting Sae’s eyes before shutting his own and meeting their lips once more.
His lips moved slowly against Sae, no tongue, just lips against lips, he could taste the chapstick on Sae’s lips, strawberry, Sae’s a strawberry.
Shidou felt himself getting pulled down on top of Sae by the arms that roughly laced themself around his neck.
“Mmph!”
Shidou pulled apart, admiring Sae’s beauty under the moonlight, god, how he loved the way his eyes looked, half-lidded and disinterested no matter what moment yet never taking away from the way the teal sparkles,
“So beautiful..” He did not intend to say that aloud, “As much as I’d love to devour you Sae, we are in public.”
“I’m surprised that’d stop you.”
Shidou laughed at the statement, as he used the arms that were at the sides of Sae’s head to push him up and back into a sitting position.
Sae sat up as well.
He moved closer to Shidou and pressed his lips against his cheek.
Immediately following this, he stood up, and ushered Shidou to stand up too, “Let’s go to the car—it’s getting late.”
Sae looked over at Shidou who was still sitting on the ground. He looked up at Sae, dumbfounded, as he brought his fingertips up to the spot where Sae kissed him.
“You.. kissed me?”
Sae gave him a confused stare, “You kiss me all the time Ryuu?”
“Yeah—but—you’ve never kissed me—well you have, but always on my lips—and after I kiss you—you don’t make moves on your own.” Shidou grew more flustered after each word he said, and as he tried to explain what a simple cheek kiss was doing to him, “You need to make first moves more often Sae..”
He got up quickly and brought himself to his feet swiftly, he leaned down, grabbed his sweater, and trailed behind Sae as they made their way back to the car.
“You’re still driving.”
“That’s fine.” Sae gave him a stern stare, “We’re going home this time don’t worry.” He ruffled the shorter’s hair as the two split off going to seperate sides of the car.
Shidou kept his word just as Sae did with the pinky promise and drove them back to him.
Shidou practically lived at the Itoshi house despite Rin’s protests. He would walk there at night sometimes, show up unannounced, and spend multiple days there at a time.
So he had the directions engraved in his memory, like a human gps.
He broke his word.
Well not intentionally.
They were almost out of gas, so they had to stop at the gas station.
Sae filled up the tank while Shidou ran inside to get an energy drink.
It was good that this gas station was right down the block from their house because both were extremely exhausted.
Sae would rather be lying in his bed watching a movie, that Shidou’s been pestering him about, right now.
Once the tank was filled Sae took his spot back in the passenger.
Shidou only took a minute longer, soon enough he was seated next to Sae, in the driver’s seat. He grabbed his energy drink out of the bag, followed by a ring pop.
He obnoxiously , opened the wrapper, struggling too , it was embarrassing to watch.
“Itoshi Sae, my love?” He cooed, “Will you marry me?”
He held the ring pop out for Sae to see, only receiving a sigh as a response. After a few more seconds of silence, Sae held his left hand out toward Shidou.
“Yes Ryuu, I’ll marry you.”
Shidou grinned, immediately placing the ring on Sae’s finger with shouts of happiness.
If he acted this way over a fake candy proposal how would the real one go?
“I love you, fiancé .”
“If that was your actual proposal you can fuck yourself.”
“It wasn’t!” Shidou shouted, “I am hurt. You really think I would buy a cheap ring? You’re going to get the best, most lavish ring ever!”
“I hope so.”
Shidou drove the rest of the short drive home. Sae never took the ring off, but he did make sure not to get it on his clothes.
Once they walked through the door the shouts of; RinRin, under-lashes junior, Rin! We’re derived from Shidous lips.
“What do you want, you antennaed freak?” Rin shouted, he stomped his way from the kitchen to the entrance. His voice was filled with frustration and exasperation.
“Hey! Be nice!” Shidou cackled, he had a mischievous grin on his lips, “I’m your brother-in-law now Rin.” He held up Sae’s left hand the ring pop still present on his finger.
Rin gagged as he watched the couple, “You two are disgusting .”
“Now, now, Rin! You can’t take your anger out on us just because you can’t get with ‘sagi-chan.” Shidou teased.
“Shut up! That’s not true!”
“Ohoho? Really Rin? I’m surprised you were even able to realize your feelings.”
“Shut up you animal, you’re so obnoxious.” He turned around and made his way back to the kitchen, fed up with Shidous bullshit.
“..‘sagi?”
“Nothing Sae. Just teasin’.”
Even though he hates Rin, he’ll let Rin explain better than Shidou could ever do.
“Movie?”
Sae nodded.
The two made their way upstairs and to Sae’s room.
Shidou hurled himself onto the bed sinking into the silk bed sheets. Navy blue bed sheets, and a large black blanket for them to snuggle under.
“Your beds too comfy, Sae! Never leaving!”
Shidou sat up and situated himself so that he was laying down with his head propped up on a pillow. Sae grabbed a tissue and set the ring pop on it on the side of the bedside table. He grabbed the remote, throwing it at Shidou recieving a, rude! as a response.
He shut off the lamp on the bedside table the only light source being the TV.
Shidou shuffled closer to Sae as the two made themselves comfortable under the blanket.
“What’re we watching?”
“A romance.” Shidou replied, “You need to be more romancy with me. I am your fiancé, love.”
“..mm, whatever.”
He threw himself on top of Shidou resting his head against his chest, “Is this good enough? ‘Cause this is all you’re getting.” He held Shidou’s waist with his arm pulling him into a hug.
“More than enough, Fiancé .”
Sae sighed, he could only feel himself get more flustered every time Shidou called him that.
Being his fiancé couldn’t be that bad. He did like the way the word rolled off of his tongue too..
He knew his cheeks were red and he could only hope that it was too dark to see.
Shidou pressed a kiss to Sae’s temple, “Goodnight Sae, my fiancé .”
“Good night, Ryuusei...”
Yeah. He could really get used to this.
“..my fiancé.”
