The word hangs between us, unspoken, and I clench my jaw.
I don’t feel bad for hating Peeta Mellark, but I do feel somewhat bad for dragging my friends into it. They’ve witnessed enough of our screaming matches that I’m surprised they haven’t disowned us entirely or that they haven’t tried to sell tickets to the spectacle. Every time we’re together, it feels like a fight to the death.
Peeta’s not just a bully. He’s worse—he’s strategic, and observant. He knows just what to say, and knows exactly what people need to hear.
I fell for it once, and I won’t do it again.
