Summary
The term picture bride refers to the practice in the early 20th century of immigrant workers (chiefly Japanese, Okinawan, and Korean) in Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States and Canada selecting brides from their native countries via a matchmaker, who paired bride and groom using only photographs and family recommendations of the possible candidates.
In the fall of 1914, Jimin heads to America to meet his new husband for the first time, excited for every opportunity that was about to come to him. However, nothing seems to be as he imagined. His husband looks nothing like his picture, he can't go to town without receiving dirty looks from people on the street, and the owner of a local Korean shop is far too kind and charming for Jimin's married self to handle.
