Work Text:

Whilst George's pregnancy had been very much planned, Patches' was not. It's honestly a little rigged, that they're due around the same time - a cats gestation period is only two months, while George has been going through it for what feels like forever.

At least he's only having one baby. When Dream noticed Patches getting a little rounder, they took her to the vet, which is how George found out that apparently pets can have ultrasounds too. Six kittens in there, and yet they're taking up hardly any room - if he was having six babies, he'd probably look like a beached whale.

Their human baby, their little boy, is supposed to arrive next month, a day or two before Patches' litter. Looking at Dream, George honestly can't figure out which option stresses him out more.

"God, we need to get more cat food. Fuck, it's been so long since Patches was a kitten, they need special kitten food, right?"

It's so annoying. George is sitting here, eight months pregnant with Dream's son, getting his insides kicked to hell, and his stupid husband is thinking about cats.

"I don't know." George grunts, not looking up from his phone. "We're not keeping them."

"I thought we were keeping one?"

George shrugs, running a hand over his bump as his son wriggles. Dream wraps an arm around his shoulders, one palm resting on the peak of his belly.

"Babe. Please don't be jealous of our cat."

"'M not jealous." He scoffs. "I just think you're more concerned about Patches' babies than our one."

"Of course I'm not." Dream trails his fingers over the curve of George's bump. "But we're way more prepared for our son than having seven cats in the house. I know we're not keeping them, but we still need to house them until they're old enough to be safe without their mom around."

"Mm." George looks at Patches, who's curled up on her cat bed, like she's guarding her little tummy. He can relate to that, he wishes he had the flexibility to tuck himself around his bump, keep his baby safe and warm.

"I promise baby, no one is more important to me than our son. Not even Patches and her kittens."

"I can't believe she gets to be pregnant for only two months." George pouts as Dream kisses his cheek. "That's unfair. We should have had our baby six months ago."

Dream snorts, and cups George's bump. "I know. But imagine growing to this size in two months. You'd have killed me."

"'This size'? You think I'm fat?" He's joking, mostly. Being pregnant has made him a little bit clingier, need a little bit more validation. It's nice to hear his husband say-

"You're not fat babe, you're pregnant. You're gorgeous, your bump is beautiful, you know that. I love you."

Yes, it never gets old hearing Dream say that. George smiles, then smiles even more as Dream plants kisses all over his face.

Being pregnant is so hard. No one tells you it's this hard, that the bump can get so heavy or how quick it is to get tired.

People who do this while single are crazy. George cannot even begin to comprehend what that must be like, no partner to offer massages or soothe food cravings. He is so lucky to have Dream, even luckier that with just a bat of his eyelashes, his husband will drop everything to tend to his every need.

All George wants to do today is lay in bed. Wrap himself in warm sheets and soft blankets, cradle his bump in his hands, and sleep. He's just passed nine months, so he practically deserves a good long rest. Dream laid with him for an hour or two, before getting up to 'make food' and 'do some work'.

It was a little bit lonely, being in their big bed all by himself, until the door had creaked open a little bit, and Patches slinked in, hopping up onto the bed and stretching out beside him.

"Hi Patchy." George mumbles. Her tail flicks lazily, then curls around George's bump. Her own belly is looking bigger too. Must be pretty uncomfortable to have six kids writhing about, much stranger to feel than just the one.

Hesitantly, George puts a hand on her side. Patches has been very protective of her stomach, batting hands away and hissing at the vet when they take her to be examined. But she doesn't move away from George. Her little head gets closer to his stomach, and she purrs quietly, nuzzling against George's bump.

So George very lightly brushes his knuckle against Patches soft tummy. She looks much squishier while pregnant, bump doesn't seem so solid and firm like George's is. It's cute.

"We're having babies." George whispers. "Baby duo! That's what Twitter should call us."

He gets meow in response. George moves his hand a little more, resting fully on Patches' stomach. She stills for a moment, tense enough for George to nearly remove his hand, but then she relaxes, purring again.

"Meow." George says to her, and she purrs quietly back.

He can't be certain at what point they both fall asleep, but George wakes up to a text from Dream, which is just a picture of him and Patches snoozing together - Patches' tail on George's bump, and George's fingertips on hers.

George has been pregnant for over 40 weeks now, and was due three days ago. His son decided to ignore that, and is still in there.

Patches clearly did not have this problem. Her litter did not decide to keep chilling in their mother's womb, and have arrived promptly. Six tiny kittens, half of them grey and black, which means Patches' baby daddy is potentially the cat from the other end of the street.

They're very cute. Maybe not as cute as George's baby will be (when he decides to actually be born), but very adorable. And very loud, mewling and yowling frequently.

Sapnap is obsessed with them. He keeps making excuses to come over, and then just sits and coos over the Patches and the tiny babies. Fair enough, George would probably do the same if it was the other way around.

"How many are you taking?"

"What?" Sapnap blinks at Dream after the question.

"When they're old enough to all get adopted, how many are you taking?" Dream repeats himself, and George leans on his shoulder. It would be good if Sapnap took at least one - Patches would still be able to see her baby, he only lives a few blocks away.

"Oh. You're not keeping them all?"

George scoffs, and pats his swollen stomach. "Dude. The baby's gonna be here any day now, we're not looking after six kittens on top of that."

"But they're so cute."

"Our baby will be cuter." Dream says confidently. "And there's no room in this house for a baby and loads of cats."

"No offence, but your human baby is not going to be more adorable than these little guys."

One of the kittens that looks the most like Patches flops against Sapnap's hand. Patches gently lifts them back up by the scruff of their neck.

"Yes he is." George tuts, and folds his arms protectively around his belly. "He's going to be the most precious little baby ever."

Sapnap hums, and pets another kitten. "Can I have... two?"

"Obviously. As long as you give us visitation rights." Dream smiles. "I think we're talking about keeping one. And then the other three... We'll sort something out."

"Which one?"

George strokes his bump. "Whichever one the baby chooses. They're gonna grow up together, it'll be cute."

"Oh holy shit, that will be cute." Sapnap gapes. "You can take so many cute pictures."

"My camera roll is gonna be full." Dream nods, and squeezes George's hand. "Just a little bit longer, and he'll be here."

'A little bit longer' is actually a whole extra week. Their baby boy arrives late as hell, but George can't bring himself to care about that.

He's here. Their little boy, George's son, and he's gorgeous and healthy and perfect. Their Liam, and he has the cutest chubby cheeks and chunky legs.

Dream has basically not stopped crying. He pulled himself together enough to drive home safely, but whilst they were at the hospital, and the moment they got home, he's been weeping. And maybe George has cried a lot too, maybe, but he'd never admit it.

Liam's just so precious. A lovely little boy. George is so focused on cradling him that he forgets their house is currently full of cats. The mewling and the fur everywhere reminds him.

Liam whimpers a little bit at the noise, and George shushes him gently, and Dream guides him by the arm to the couch.

"I'll get you some tea." Dream whispers. He kisses George and caresses Liam's cheek, before leaving briefly.

"Daddy will be right back." George promises their son. "Daddy's just making mummy a drink, and then he'll be right back."

Liam stares up at him, and burbles.

"My cute baby boy. My Liam. Mummy loves you."

Another murmur.

George continues cooing, even when he feels seven pairs of eyes on him. Well, maybe three pairs. Patches and two of the kittens are looking, the other four seem to be just bumbling around. Slowly, Patches approaches, and the kittens all follow.

Liam lets out a quiet whine, and George hums soothingly for him.

"It's alright sweetheart. Shh, you're alright."

Patches takes lifts one kitten by the neck, hops onto the couch and places it. Then jumps off to repeat the process with her second kitten, then the third...

Dream returns with tea by the time Patches has lifted her final baby to the couch, and they're all curiously mewing and rolling around. Patches inches forward, and Dream immediately whips his phone out.

"Oh my god. Our babies are meeting. She's saying hi."

George smiles as Patches nuzzles her nose to Liam's hand. His son whimpers.

"Look Liam. Is that Patches? It is! Patches is here to say hello. Patches is a mummy just like me, look, she's brought her babies over to meet you too."

"They're so cute." Dream whispers, taking what is probably a million pictures.

George can't wait to see them.
