Amelia was getting ready in the bathroom of Kai’s apartment. They had to leave in 30 minutes in order to get to the venue on time. Kai’s sister was getting married and as much as they wanted to skip because of their parents, the need to be there for their sister was bigger.
They knew it was going to be hard and dealing with their ignorant parents could ruin their whole day. Because of this they decided to ask Amelia to accompany them. And also, their sister was dying to meet the woman they have been talking so much about. And frankly, they needed her by their side.
She was doing the final touches on her look; she went with a solid, smoky eye makeup and she wore a matt bright red lipstick on her lips, her hair was up in a bun with two curled locks down framing her beautiful face. Her dress was a silky teal coloured long dress that hugged her curves just in the right places, and there was a perfect slit going up until mid-thigh. She looked absolutely breath-taking.
While she was getting ready in the bathroom, Kai got dressed in the bedroom. They wore a dark grey tuxedo, a black button up, and to match Amelia, they wore a teal bowtie. Their hair lazily fell onto their shoulder with just the perfect amount of messiness that made them so attractive.
The door of the bathroom opened and a soft voice came out. “Are you ready?” Amelia asked, peeking her head out just a little to see where they were stationed.
“Are you going to take my breath away?”
“Maybe,” she chuckled and stepped out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. Kai was sitting on the bed, their arms resting on their knees and fingers laced together. As she slowly appeared in front of them, they instinctively stood up, their mouth falling open.
“Good lord, Amelia Shepherd,” they sighed, “you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You look absolutely gorgeous, I don’t know how I will be able to not have my hands on you the whole day…”
She chuckled, her cheeks turning red and she tilted her head down, their compliments making her knees weak and the intensity of their gaze being too much to bear. They stepped closer one of their hands grabbing her waist and the other sneaking up under her chin and tilting her head up so she was looking them in the eye.
“Do not hide. Not from me. Amelia, you make me feel like a literal high schooler. I have butterflies in my stomach right now and they are going crazy. My knees weakened when I stood up. I am so happy and freaking proud that you are my partner. And I will stand so tall next to you, because you are so gorgeous, and I have no idea how I got so damn lucky…” they said and leaned down to press a soft and languid kiss on her lips. She started blushing again but smiled into the kiss.
“You know Bartley, I rarely get the chance to speak up first, and clearly I lost again...” she started, her hands sneaking up to their hips, “but you look so damn hot. And if you are proud, imagine how proud I am that you are my partner. You are the most gorgeous, handsome person I have ever seen. And I wonder how you can look soo good all the time. And butterflies? They have been my best friends ever since I saw you in the lab…” she gave a light squeeze to their hips and tugged them closer, one of her hand wander up to their neck and pulling them down to kiss those beautiful lips.
The venue of the wedding was a little rustic hotel near the hills. It had a huge garden where the wedding was held; the wedding arch was right in front of the most beautiful scenery – the hills hugging the whole area and huge trees as long as the eyes could see. The seats were arranged in a half circle, leaving a wide enough aisle for the bride to walk down on the red carpet. Behind the seats a bit further away were the tables and chairs and an enormous dance floor where all the guests will be able to dance during the night.
The whole garden was beautifully decorated, fresh flowers all around the place. Seemingly the dominant colours of the wedding were red, pink and white. Roses of these colours on every table, petals leading the way to the different points of the garden; to benches, to the dance floor, to the wedding arch.
Kai and Amelia arrived with many other guests so they had the opportunity to mix with them and try to find their sister without drawing too much attention to themselves. Unfortunately, their mother recognized them from all the people flowing in and walked up to them, placing her hand on Kai’s back.
“My darling, it’s so good to see you. I was worried that you would miss your sister’s wedding because of your stubbornness,” she said as the pair stopped to look at her.
“Hello to you too, mum. You know that I would never miss such an important event of Hailey’s life,” they sighed and pulled Amelia closer, needing her to ground themself.
“And who is this gorgeous lady with you, Pa-“
“Kai. Mum my name is Kai. And this is Amelia Shepherd, my partner,” they introduced her, standing tall next to her just as they said they would.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Amelia extended her hand for the woman to shake it.
“Yeah, yeah…” she said as they shook hands, not being interested in Amelia anymore. “Pa-…Kai may I speak to you alone for a second?”
“No mum. Anything you want to say to me, you can say in front of Amelia.”
“Alright. I was hoping you would come to your senses and bring a handsome man with you to your sister’s wedding…”
“I’ve come to my senses, mum. All those years ago when I came out. And just so you know, Amelia is the most wonderful, most beautiful, smartest woman I have ever met. I am the luckiest person ever that I can call her my partner. And if you can’t respect it, I don’t think we have anything to talk about. Where is Hailey? I would like to introduce Amelia to her,” they grabbed Amelia’s hand who gave them a big squeeze, trying to tell them that she is there for them.
Kai’s mother’s mouth fell open, and she could only point towards the hotel, indicating that Hailey was still getting ready inside. They nodded in acknowledgment and left their stunned mother, stepping aside from her with Amelia.
“Are you okay, baby?” Amelia asked, worried that the previous banter tore up old wounds.
They sighed and squeezed her hand before answering. “Yeah, I’m fine. It was just what I anticipated. I promise, Hailey will be welcoming…” they shook their head trying to get rid of the memory of what just happened. “And anyways, are you okay? I should have warned you that such things may happen.”
“Don’t worry about me, you told me that your parents aren’t quite accepting. And anyways, I know that I am better than any aforementioned ‘handsome man’. So yeah, I am just fine,” she smiled at them, true honesty shining in her eyes.
They went inside and asked the receptionist where the bride was getting ready. After getting all the information they needed, they headed upstairs to the room where Kai’s sister was getting ready. They reached the room and Kai knocked on the door, the couple patiently waiting for it to be opened. After a few seconds a woman around Kai’s age opened the door and with a smile let them in.
“Kai! Oh my god it’s so good to see you!”
“Rachel, how are you doing?” they greeted the woman, “Amelia, this is Rachel, my cousin. Rachel, this is Amelia Shepherd, my partner.”
“Amelia! What a beautiful name! And an even more beautiful lady! Kai, you got lucky, my buddy.”
“I sure did,” they looked at Amelia with heart eyes.
“Hello, it’s great to meet you!” Amelia smiled and was delighted that Kai’s cousin was such a nice woman.
“Is that who I think it is?” came a voice from the room of the suite.
“Where is my favourite sister?” Kai’s voice got louder so their sister could hear them clearly. They tugged Amelia’s hand so that they could enter the room.
“My favourite sibling!” she greeted them as she saw them. “And oh my god, you must be Amelia! Jesus, you are breath-taking! I have heard so much about you!”
Hailey looked just like Kai, but a more feminine version. Her face wasn’t that angular, Kai’s squared jaw was nowhere to be seen on her face. But her eyes was just the same colour as Kai’s, her nose identical to theirs, only her mouth was a bit more filled than Kai’s.
“Amelia, this is my annoying little sister, Hailey,” they said earning a smack to their arm from their sister.
“That much I figured,” she chuckled and waved to Hailey. “Hi, it’s lovely to finally meet you. You look gorgeous…”
“Why thank you,” she smiled. “Come here, sib,” she pulled them into a tight hug and squeezed their shoulders. “I am so happy that you came…”
“You know I wouldn’t have missed your wedding, silly.”
“Oh I am so excited! Amelia, I will catch you to have a proper talk later, but I just cannot concentrate right now,” Hailey admitted, almost floating away as the excitement got up to her.
“Haha, sure thing,” Amelia chuckled and smiled wildly at Hailey.
“Okay, we will leave you two to finish up. Sis you better not run away without telling me beforehand!” they hugged their sister once again before letting her go and smiling at their cousin.
The whole ceremony was beautiful, Hailey was glowing as she walked down the aisle. She peered at Kai and Amelia as she walked next to them seeing their hands in each other’s, and showed a wide smile at them. Kai was glowing next to Amelia as well. They were perfect for each other, Hailey thought.
During the vow exchange Kai couldn’t help but look at Amelia, seeing that she was looking at them as well. They were staring into each other’s eyes, smiling like two crazy people. A newfound emotion just hit Kai as they were gazing into those beautiful ocean blues.
I love her. They haven’t said it out loud yet, something always keeping them from it. They felt like all their interactions, the soft touches, the tone of their voices, they all said it without saying it. But as they were looking at this magnificent human being, they realised they wanted to scream it. They wanted everyone to know that they were in love with Amelia Shepherd.
They vowed to themself that they will find the perfect opportunity during the night to tell her. They wanted her to hear the words leave their mouth. They wanted to see her reaction. They did not expect her to say it back, frankly, they didn’t need her to. They knew she loved them. They could feel it.
The ceremony ended, and the party began. They introduced Amelia to some more family members, most of them were happy for the couple and the ones who knew Kai just a little could see how happy they were. They stood tall and proud next to their partner, their eyes glowing when saying her name, or when they looked at her.
Amelia was just as proud and happy to be called Kai’s partner, and to call Kai her partner. Although, people did not know her there, it was quite obvious that she was just as enamoured with Kai as they were with her. They moved together perfectly and when they looked at each other it was like there were no other people on the planet.
The sun began to set and little fairy lights provided enough light to see and it was just the perfect moment for the newlywed couple’s first dance. The DJ announced the married couple and began playing their selected music.
“They look so happy. And in love…” Amelia smiled, looking at Hailey and her husband then tilting her head to face Kai.
“They do. I’m so happy for her. Gabe really makes her happy. He treats her right, and I swear to god he worships the ground she walks on. As he should, by the way. We would have serious problems if he didn’t…” they said seriously while looking at their sister.
“You are a very protective sibling, aren’t you?”
“She is my little sister, of course I am protective. I punched too many guys from her high school who didn’t treat her right. I hope I will never have to do that to Gabe…”
Amelia raised her hand and cupped their cheek, making them look at her. When they did she smiled at them and inched closer to join their lips in a passionate kiss. They smiled against her lips and gently grabbed her waist, deepening the kiss.
The music slowly faded out and the DJ started speaking again. “As I can see we have other lovebirds here as well. This music is for every other couple here. Come on guys, ask your partners for a dance!” he said and the accords of I’ve had the time of my life started playing.
Amelia and Kai slowly parted, Kai looked into Amelia’s eyes smiling shyly. “May I have this dance?”
“You may, Bartley,” Amelia grinned at them accepting their hand and letting them pull her to the dance floor.
They found a place where there were not so many other people, wanting to just be in a little bubble with their partner. They placed their hands on her waist, pulling her impossibly close to them. Amelia wrapped her hands around their neck and pulled their head down so that their foreheads were touching. They were slowly moving to the music, savouring the moment, and they really felt like there was no one else around them.
I’ve been waiting for so long
Now I’ve finally found someone
to stand by me
They looked into her eyes trying to stop time right there; the woman they loved in their arms, swaying slowly to the music and losing themselves in each other. They raised their head so that they were a bit further from her and started singing along.
Just remember
You’re the one thing
I can’t get enough of
So I’ll tell you something
This could be love, because
I’ve had the time of my life
No, I never felt this way before
Yes, I swear, it’s the truth
And I owe it all to you
The way they were looking at her, Amelia knew that they weren’t just singing along, they meant every word they were singing. They were singing to her from their heart. Their eyes were shining and she could see…she saw the love in their eyes. She knew she was lost. She was fully in love with them. It begin pushing her from the inside.
She looked into their eyes and hoped they could see the same in her eyes. She loved them. She was in love with them. She never felt anything like that before. She thought she had been in love before, but no. This feeling was entirely new to her. She began singing the last few lines of the song.
‘Cause I’ve had the time of my life
And I’ve searched though every open door
‘Til I found the truth
And I owe it all to you…
“I love you, Amelia,” they said as the music faded. The smile on their face could have been seen from the moon as well. The woman in their arm smiled at them, her eyes shining brighter than the sun itself. Their words made those eyes shinier than before and her expression changed as the words left their mouth. So it’s true…they really loved her…
“I love you, Kai Bartley,” she said and watched their face light up, their eyes tearing up.
“You do?”
“I do. I so so so do. I am in love with you, Kai.”
The tears started falling from both of their eyes and Kai lifted Amelia up gently from the floor and captured her lips in the softest kiss she has ever experienced. Her hands found their place in their hair, pulling them even closer to her and deepening the kiss. They were both the happiest they have ever been.
Kai slowly lowered Amelia back to the ground, breaking the kiss to look into her eyes. “I am in love with you, Amelia Shepherd,” they said her name with so much care and love. The woman’s face lit up and at this point Kai was sure she was more beautiful than the sun. “You are the most beautiful woman. And you are the love of my life.”
Amelia leaned in again, tugging the lapel of their suit so she could kiss them. When their tongues met she felt Kai grab her thighs and pick her up again, her legs wrapping around their waist and she could feel them starting to spin around. She held onto them tightly and smiled into the kiss.
They loved her. They called her the love of their life. And they were the love of hers. She was sure. She was never so sure about anything else in her life. They made her the happiest and cared for her like no one else before. She pulled away slightly and smiled at them.
“You know, you make me the happiest. You are the love of my life, Kai Bartley.”
