Chapter 1: intro !!

Chapter Text

Micheal Wheeler was angry. And he had made a very big mistake.

Nothing surprising, really, but this mistake was huge. It had been a few months since Mike came out to his parents, and he knew with every passing moment that his father believed him less and less. It still ticked him off that, just because he didn’t have a boyfriend, his bisexuality was questioned.

That being said, he almost regretted last night.

“I’m just saying, shouldn’t you have a boyfriend by now?” Ted had been pestering Mike about his love life all throughout dinner. He should shut up before Mike punched those ugly glasses off his face.

“Oh Ted, leave him be. He doesn’t need a boyfriend.” Karen had been defending Mike all dinner. He thinks he’ll ask her to hide Ted’s body with him when the time comes

“Do you even like anyone? Are you sure you aren’t confused, or this isn’t just a phas-“

A phase.

Fuck it.

“Actually, I do have a boyfriend”

Shit.

His declaration was met with stunned silence. Karen was the first to break it.

“You… You do?” Fuck. This is horrible.

“I do! He’s-“ Mike hesitated, not sure who to pull into his lie. “I-“

“Is it Will?”

He stared at his mom, dumbfounded.

I don’t know if he’s okay with me telling anyone,’ he was going to say. Now, though, with the idea of dating Will thrust into his view- all thoughts left his mind.

His face must’ve said something, because Karen smiled like he had confirmed it. “Oh, that’s just lovely dear. I know y’all have been in love with each other for a while. I’m glad it worked out.”

‘In love.’ Fuck.

Mikes stomach twisted and untwisted with indiscernible emotions.

“I would love for you to bring him over for dinner, Mike.”

Ted’s eyebrows shot up to his hairline. Mike made sure to take a moment to revel in his discomfort.

“That sounds nice, Mom. I’ll ask him about it.”

I’ll ask him about it.’ What was he thinking? Now Mike had to somehow get Will to pretend to date him or deal with the knowledge that was finally facing the consequences of his impulsivity, which- maybe that was something he should do.
