    Rhaenyra’s words ring in his ears as he leads her deeper into the underbelly of the city. He thinks of her hand placed so trustingly in his when she found him awaiting her at the end of the passage, the giddy exhilaration in her eyes as she raced through the streets, and an unfamiliar sense of shame curdles in his stomach.
