Summary:

RWBY, but with the color purple!

Mere months after the birth of Ruby Rose, Summer found a baby boy on her doorstep, along with a note. With no other option, Moon Lumos was taken in as her own. After a few short months of raising the boy, she began to realize. . . her son was not an ordinary child.

(First book in a series of four. Each covers three volumes of RWBY.)

Chapter 1: The Simplest of Souls

Chapter Text

Do you truly believe humanity stands a fraction of a chance? Politics may say they are United, but the nations of Remnant are scattered, broken, just as the moon.

. . . All it takes to rid the world of hatred is a kind heart.

What game are you playing. . .? Look around you, you can't possibly see any light amidst this stretch of darkness.

. . . All it takes to rid the world of darkness is a small light.

Why must you refuse to see reason?! I created you! You are meant to bend to my will! You are meant to be MY weapon, to show the world TRUE DESPAIR!

. . . And all it will take to rid this world of despair, are the simplest of souls and their boundless hope.

In the dead of night, a cloaked woman ventured through the forests sprawled across the nation of Vale. The shattered moon in the sky shined its broken light upon her, brightening with each step she took. By the time she reached a clearing, a beacon of light brilliantly illuminated the bundle of joy resting in her arms. The autumnal wind began its descent upon her, dying leaves pressing against the edges of her cloak. They grasped and grasped, but there was no stopping her. The light protected her and her son.

Before them was a house, pearl white walls with deep auburn, oak framing. Emerald greens scaled the wood, adding nature's touch to the humble and sleeping home. The light never left the woman as she gently placed her child upon the stone path ahead of the entrance.

Midnight hit. The light never left the baby boy as she walked away.

. . . She'd care for you better than I ever could. Goodbye, Moon. . . .

The wails of a baby girl, no older than two months, echoed across through the household, reverberating off walls and into the various bedrooms. The mother awoke, exhaustion wasting no time in taking ahold of her.

In a matter of moments, Ruby Rose had returned to a deep slumber within her crib. The sun was rising, the orange hues of dawn on the horizon. Her deep breath of admiration quickly faded into a sigh of frustration. The wails of a newborn had returned with a vengeance. It wasn't until she stepped into her daughter's room and saw her soundly asleep that she realized the cries were coming from outside her home. Without further ado. . . she snatched her white cloak from its rack and ran outside.

The wails stopped instantly. The first thing Moon Lumos would ever see with his amethyst violet eyes was his mother's smile.

It was at times like these that Summer had to seriously ponder where exactly she went wrong as a mother. Her two youngest children. . .

Wouldn't

Stop

FIGHTING!

At first, it was adorable seeing two newborns babble at each other over toys and food, and then a little annoying when the quarrels began for her attention, and downright frustrating when they fought over looking at each other funny! Summer slammed her elbows on the dinner table and rubbed her temples.

Summer: I'm going to become an old hag by the end of the year!

???: I've been gone for three months and they're still at it, huh?

???: I've been gone for three months and they're still at it, huh?

Qrow Branwen

Summer: Yes. Yes they are.

Qrow: . . . Want something to-

The moment he reached for his flask, the mother flashed him a glare that spelled death.

Qrow: Okay, no drinking in the house. Understood!

Summer: (sighs) Why are you here, Qrow? In case you haven't notice, I'm-

They heard the sounds of shattering glass, the redhead promptly slamming her head onto the table.

Summer: . . . busy.

Qrow: You know, you could always start training them.

Summer: They're a year old, Qrow!

Qrow: I didn't mean now.

Her teammate, best friend, and honestly brother, took a seat ahead of her, leaning back and sticking his legs atop the table.

Qrow: Besides, those two are fighters.

Summer: Don't remind me. . .

Qrow: (smirks) Let me guess, Tai already gave up?

Summer: He didn't last a day.

Qrow: . . . I knew it'd be short, but geez.

Summer: (shakes her head) He had a black eye.

Qrow: (eyes widen) I knew Moon was a bit wild, but-

Summer: (deadpans) It was Ruby. . .

Her friend worried for her sanity. And over the course of the next few years, that sanity would be put to the test.

Journal Entry #245,

Welp, it's been a little less than two years since the world decided it wanted me to have a baby boy. Moon has been a treasure. . . when he's not trying to kill Ruby, and vice versa. I seriously don't get what's wrong with those two! They just keep on fighting no matter what Tai and I do! I'm at the end of my whits, those two are uncontrollable! Another little negative he has, is that he doesn't really talk to Tai or Yang too much. On the other hand, he talks to Qrow just fine. It's a little worrying, him being reclusive like that. BUT, enough of that! Today is a special day after all. . .

IT'S MOON'S BIRTHDAY! I may complain, but I love my son so, so frickin' much! Although it sucks that whoever his parents were left him on my doorstep, I'll always be grateful that he's here. Ruby does appear to share the same sentiment. She's been whining, a lot, today. Then again, Moon complained a lot on her birthday. I don't know what I'm going to do with those two. . .

Anyways! That's all for today's journal entry! See you later, future me!

Journal Entry #313

I had to spank Moon for the first time today. I woke up to Ruby screaming about monsters, and it turns out it was just Moon dressed up in a Grimm onesie. Gosh, I'm surprised I lasted another year of this stuff! I need these kids to grow up faster so I don't become a hag! On the bright side, she's driving Qrow up a wall. Poor guy is aging faster than I am with how much she pesters him.

ANYWAYS! It's MY BABY GIRL'S THIRD BIRTHDAY! Even with the horrible start for the day, Ruby had a blast at her first actual birthday party! I've never seen her so happy before! She was smiling from ear to ear from pure excitement alone. It was honestly a bit creepy at times. But, even with her faults, I still love her to death. She is technically the only child in this household that's biologically mine after all. Wait, that sounds bad! I love all my kids to death! Please don't smack yourself future me!

Oh crap! They're fighting again! Journal entry, over!

The kids took it too far. They were tussling in the hallway and Ruby accidentally pushed Moon down the stairs. We were lucky he only ended up with bruises, but his cries scared me. I gave Ruby a spanking, and for once, she did't fight it. Hopefully, they actually tone down the fighting now. . .

Journal Entry #333

When I woke up this morning, and didn't hear glass breaking or any loud noises, I put on my cloak and started searching the entire island of Patch for my kids. They just had to give me a heart attack! When I got home, there they were, Moon and Ruby sitting in the garden! I felt so bad for yelling at them. Adding my utter confusion at the two getting along for once, I felt even worse.

And then they picked a rose from the garden and said, "Happy Mother's Day!" I started crying on the spot. Future me, you have the best kids in the world!

Those devils learned the puppy dog eyes technique, and now here I am, training my two four year olds on how to protect themselves. On the bright side, Qrow was right about one thing! Turning their squabbles into a proper rivalry made them way more tolerable of each other. . . and by that, I mean they physically fight while training and verbally spar in the house. It's so LOUD now.

Future me, I pray for your ears to be intact by the time I'm you.

My kids are starting school. My youngest daughter and my son are starting school. MY KIDS ARE STARTING SCHOOL! THEY'RE GROWING UP TOO FAST! Tai had to stop me from crying when we left them at Flare Academy. It's just that I could've sworn that just a second ago, Ruby was just born and Moon was just left on my doorstep! When the heck did they become kindergarteners?! I need more time to pamper them before they leave me all alone in this house with Tai and my roses! Oh wait! Sorry, Tai's cool! Dang it, I just want my kids back safe at home!

Oh crap! What if they fight at school?! Oh, god! That's going to be so many parent-teacher conferences! At least when they go to Signal, Tai and Qrow will look after them, but at Flare, I pray for whatever unfortunate soul tries to stop them from brawling! Future me, be scared for what your children become!

Journal Entry #444

Well. . . School's been amazing and horrible. Let's start with the bad. First off, I've gotten over fifty complains from the teachers about my. . . "misbehaving children." I don't even want to start with that debacle. I had to use my connections to keep them enrolled.

Even worse. . . Moon's definitely reclusive. I never realized just how shy he was until now, and he downright avoids talking to other kids if he can. I think Ruby's the only thing really keeping him socially active. I really hope he grows out of this.

On the other hand, Ruby's been having the time of her life. She's been making friends, gaining the teachers' favor, participating in class, and has even gone to a few sleepovers and play dates already. I'm so proud of her! She's been so happy since school started, and seeing her smile makes me feel like the luckiest mother in the world.

I just hope that Moon has at least more friends than I've ever had. And before you say, "You had plenty of friends," just remember that my best friend is Qrow, future me.

I never really expected to be called back to active duty as a Huntress. Of course, I kept up my training and stuff, and I always participated in Grimm hunting, but I never expected for Ozpin to come knocking. It's just so sudden. Usually, it's Qrow who runs errands for him. Apparently, the old buffoon is busy, so Oz needed someone to take his place.

So, I spent as much time with my kids as I could. I told them I'd be going away for a few day, and. . . I think I matter to them more than I ever really noticed. I mean, of course kids love their mom, but they. . . they really make me feel special. Ruby and Moon stopped their constant fights for those days we hung out, those two rascals and Yang doing their very best to tell me to stay, to get me to play more games with them, to make me spend every last millisecond buy their sides.

I could feel their love, and I really don't want to go back to being a Huntress anymore. I want to spend every second of every day with my two beautiful daughters and my handsome little boy. So. . . after this, I'm going to resign. I'm going to give up my old dream, because the dream I'm living right now is perfect just the way it is.

Hopefully you don't come to regret retiring so early, future me!

Journal Entry #1

I guess I'm doing these now. Whether I keep doing it or not, really depends on how drunk I am when it's time to write. I'll cut to chase, ever since Summer died, I've felt like hell. That's probably not going away anytime soon. More importantly, her kids aren't exactly taking this well. Yang is doing her best to seem strong for the little ones, same goes for Tai. Ruby's eyes are always puffy, always red. And Moon. . . he hasn't left his and Ruby's room since. It's always quiet and I hate it.

Ruby's been getting better. She's adjusting, but it's pretty easy to tell that she's struggling. She's only a kid after all. Yang is doing alright, thankfully. On another note, we managed to get Moon out of the room, but the poor kid won't say a damn word. His eyes are practically dead, and seeing it is killing me. He's just a kid.

Journal Entry #28

Ruby turned seven today. She had our heads turning when she said she didn't want a party or any gifts. Yang tried talking some sense into her, but she wouldn't budge. Ruby just stayed in her room all day, with Moon. God, I never thought I'd say when I missed the days when they fought. I walked in that room, and it was just quiet, like it has been ever since Summer left.

Turns out, Ruby not wanting anything for her birthday wasn't exactly accurate. She did want something. She wanted Moon.

Moon said something to me. Just three words. "I miss mom." I'm pretty sure it's the first thing he's said to anyone in a long time. His voice was all raspy, but that might've been because he was crying. I don't think the kid realized it, but isolating himself only made his grief worse. He's been bottling everything up, and I think that dam finally broke today. He cried for like three hours, but I guess those tears were all overdue.

Moon's been doing his best to get back into the flow of things, but it's taking a while. I don't think today being his birthday helps much. I got him a set of earbuds, kid's been getting into music lately. My opinions on his choice of "music" aside, it's been helping him relax.

I left for a few hours to run a few errands and when I got back, it was pretty dark. I saw Moon and Ruby up on the roof, stargazing. I wonder what they were talking about.

Whatever it was that those two talked about, it changed things. The house was still pretty quiet, but not eerie quiet. It was almost. . . peaceful? I guess that's the word. When I walked in today, I have to say that I was surprised. Everyone was still asleep, so I went up to check on Moon and Ruby. They pushed their twin beds together and shared Moon's earbuds. Their music was still playing, so they definitely fell asleep that way.

Seeing those two get along was a dream come true.

I've got to say, Moon and Ruby are definitely more determined to get strong than Yang was. Every time Tai and I train with Yang, she finds something to complain over or doesn't take it seriously. But, Moon and Ruby? The only complaints we got from them was being exhausted after they spent twelve hours working themselves out to the bone. They (Ruby) keep begging to use Harbinger, but I promised Tai I wouldn't give them any weapons until they got into Signal.

I can't say I'm not excited.

They're prodigies. After just a year in Signal, Moon and Ruby have come further than most of our stupid students come in four. When they become sixth years, I'm genuinely excited to see just how far they've come. Maybe they'll even give me a good fight.

Ruby took to using a Scythe. And her's is quite the beauty, named "Crescent Rose." Not to flaunt my own teaching expertise, but she's doing great with the thing. And Moon. . . decided he wants to use a Shortsword? I'm not one to judge but. . . seriously? A shortsword, of all the kinds of swords, a SHORTSWORD. No gun attachments or anything, just a shortsword named "Luna."

All the combat stuff aside. . . Socially, they're both recluses. Ruby is definitely one by choice, she definitely has no problem speaking her mind or talking to people. Moon on the other hand, actively avoids social interaction unless he's with Ruby, that or he's just quiet.

On the bright side. . . They don't fight anymore, they barely even argue. They love each other more than anything. Rest easy, Summer. . . .

Eyes of silver and amethyst awoke to the bright shine of the spring sun.

Ruby

Ruby

Moon

Moon

Ruby Rose yawned, stretching her arms as she slipped out of her bed. A sly smile spread across her lips, the redhead winding up her arm and tossing a pillow over to her brother's bed. It was a direct hit on Moon Lumos. Rising up, the ravennette gave her a deadpan stare.

Ruby: Just makin' sure you didn't go back to sleep!

The rather hyper and high pitch of her voice traveled through the air, going in her brother's ear and coming right out the other as he collapsed back into his mattress.

Moon: Go away.

The smooth medium tone of his own voice did the same. Silver eyes rolled as Ruby tightly grasped his wrist and started dragging him out of bed.

Ruby: No can do, Moonie! It's Saturday, and that means it's our turn to cook breakfast!

Moon: You eat cereal.

Ruby: I'm being considerate of Yang!

Moon: She drinks protein shakes.

Ruby: Being considerate of dad!

Moon: He's grading work at Signal.

Ruby: Gr! Just get up!

In a burst of lightning speed, the Rose straightened her brother's posture, unwrinkled his clothes, picked off some lint, cleaned his face with a wet rag, and knocked down those unruly strands of hair. . .

Ruby: You up?

. . . Twitch.

The very hair she batted down defied gravity itself and returned to its original state.

Moon: Mhm. Thanks.

Ruby: . . . You lazy little-!

—

Cooking was akin to a dance, precise movements leading to a magnificent display. In the case of the Rose-Lumos siblings, it literally was a dance. Violet earbuds hung from Moon's ears as red headphones covered Ruby's.

The music flowed through and held them together, intertwining the most minute flicks of their wrists and clicks of their heels, each performed and synchronized magically.

—

They wasted no time finishing up their breakfast and getting dressed.

Ruby's black, shortsleeved dress and red corset only made the rose red of her cloak beam

Ruby's black, shortsleeved dress and red corset only made the rose red of her cloak beam. Black tights and boots hugged her legs and feet, her red-painted steel toes and heels clicked nicely with every step. Crescent Rose, the beautiful compact scythe and firearm, tidily held itself to her back, hidden by her flowing cape.

Moon's silver armor and black undersuit simply made the violet paint shine

Moon's silver armor and black undersuit simply made the violet paint shine. Two silver plates guarded his sides, a violet belt holding his gray leggings tight, black boots with gray steel soles covering his feet. Luna, his prized violet shortsword, was sheathed, strapped to his hip, the dark handle silently rearing itself to the world.

Their music had yet to stop playing.

—

The four great nations of Remnant, Vale, Atlas, Vacuo, and Mistral, each had a reason to be notable. Mistral for its beauty and unity, Vacuo for its grand canyons and rough nature, Atlas for its technology and riches, and Vale for its festivities and. . . basically being a shopping mall the size of a capital city.

Ruby: Hello, VALE!

Moon: Do you have to do that every time we come here?

Ruby: Yup!

Little Red began to dance along the sidewalk, her brother walking quietly beside her as the neon lights led the way. Violet adopted a small smile as Ruby danced in a circle around him, ending her twirl by gently taking his hand and flashing him a toothy grin.

Ruby: Now, let's hurry! The arcade isn't gonna play itself!

Moon: Then let's.

A streak of mauve dashed across Vale, the teens splitting the wind as they raced against the daylight hours. With a brief shine of light, the mauve split into Red and Violet before the raves of color emanating from the arcade overtook them.

Moon: Shall we?

Ruby: We shall!

They marched through the lights. In the grand scope of things, the arcade was really just one of the many, many attractions Moon and Ruby found themselves within throughout the day. They had ice cream, went skating, had their weapons cleaned by professionals, rose a few rides at a theme park, relaxed a manga cafe, and so much more. They crossed a majority of Vale by the time the sun went dark and the broken moon desired to rise. And this was not the first time they'd done this. . .

Spending every moment of every day was just how they did things. The arcade, the ice cream, the skating, all that is just extra, icing on the cake. All that truly matter was that they did it together. It was their Way of Life.

———————————————————————

As nightfall took over Remnant, the two wandering teens let out yawns. The streetlights kept an ever present glow on the streets of Vale, and the neon lights on every store and building only made the city seem livelier at night.

Vale was often referred to as "The City That Never Sleeps" . . . for the right and wrong reasons.

Ruby: Oh, hey. . . A Dust Shop. I wonder if they've got the latest weapons magazine?

Moon: . . . I'm not stepping in there.

Ruby: Don't be jealous that Luna can't use Dust!

Her brother crossed his arms, gaze hardening defensively. Insulting him was one thing, but insulting Luna. . . that was a line one should not cross.

Moon: I am NOT jealous.

Ruby: Yeesh! Okay! Not jealous!

She zoomed through the doors of the small shop, Violet sighing as he plugged his headphones into his phone and began to scroll through his playlist. . . .

———————————————————————

Dust. A liquid energy, in its raw form, that had been condensed into crystals and harnessed to provide elemental attributes to anything it's applied to. Swords, guns, bows, armor, even the body, could be enhanced by Dust.

Of course, that'd be impossible without Aura. Unlike Dust, a natural resource, Aura is an energy intertwined with the soul. Every living being on Remnant had an Aura, and all it takes is the right training, or the right emotions, to awaken it. It primarily functions as a rechargeable shield, surrounding the body and protecting it from harm. However, it can also be manipulated by the user to provide a sixth sense, albeit a weak one. Applying Dust to one's aura, the body, can have three different outcomes. The first of which, is death. The second, a great physical enhancement.

The third. . . the channeling of the Dust into one's Semblance, a unique power awakened by the occurrence of an extreme emotional state, or in most cases. . . trauma. As stated, Semblances are unique abilities held only by their wielder. Most are decided at random, such as super speed, invisibility, summonings, the likes. There are few cases of Semblances being genetic, and even then, there's always slight differences. Unlike Dust and Aura, Semblances are more akin to muscles than energies. Although Dust and Aura can enhance a Semblance, the holder must train it for it to truly reach its potential. . . .

———————————————————————

The shattered moon shined upon the one who shared its name, the young man laying comfortably on a bench and singing to himself.

Moon: . . . I will Burn My-

The shriek of breaking glass blew through his lyric, amethyst eyes widening as his body snapped up. The windows to the store were gone, and laying in the glass was a well dressed thug. . .

Moon: Why did I expect to this to be a quiet night?

—

—

A flash of red bursted through the vacant window, Ruby Rose twirling onto the street center, Crescent Rose expanding into a beautiful crimson scythe. Moon Lumos stood by her side, drawing Luna from her sheath, the magnificent violet of its short and evenly curved blade reflecting the light of the moon. The black steel edges of both weapons were beyond merely sharp. . .

Moon: What kind of mess are you dragging me into this time?

Ruby: The usual.

Moon: We have three of those.

Ruby: . . . Robbery.

The mastermind presented himself through the doorway, his followers rallying at his behest.

Roman Torchwick

Roman Torchwick

The con-artist eyed the teens carefully, turning his head and letting out a short chuckle as he willed his men forward.

Torchwick: Get 'em.

Blades and guns were readied, and all at once, they charged! Crescent Rose swirled around her wielder, the blade stabbing into the ground and Ruby swirling herself around Crescent Rose, her boots slamming into the first thug's face! Without a moment of hesitation, Moon appeared before the airborne enemy, fist striking and propelling him down into a second thug! Pulling the trigger, Red's scythe fired a shotgun blast, boosting herself into the air for Violet to take her hand! Turning, he threw her at the enemy, Ruby spiraling through the air with a unique kind of grace, swiping at her target with her scythe and sending the man flying as she stuck the landing!

In a whirlwind of red, Crescent Rose had become a Sniper Rifle, firing over Moon's shoulder and splitting a bullet in two! Her brother's body shifted, moving so quickly his body became a blur of violet! The three men firing on him gasped as each bullet released from their weapons was cut to pieces! Violet rushed into place, appearing before them and crossing the center-man with Luna! The shortsword swung with enough force to flip the thug into the air, the right-man immediately swinging towards the teen! A moment later, Moon was propped up on a single arm, his hard-heeled boot crashing into his enemy's jaw! Hand tilting, Violet spun himself and kneed away the left-man's gun, a red blur speeding past them, Ruby slicing the weapon in two and blitzing the final enemy! He was thrown into the air, Moon springing up whilst reversing his grip, right-hooking the thug back down to the street!

Ruby: Head's up, boss man.

Moon: . . .

Roman Torchwick had trouble believing what exactly he had just saw, hardly able to even call it a fight. Taking a puff of his cigar, the conman raised his cane as he gave a brief glare to the unconscious men.

Torchwick: You were worth every cent. Truly, you were.

Dropping the smoke, he caned the flame and smiled.

Torchwick: Well, Red, Violet! I think we can all say this was an eventful evening! And as much as I'd love to stick around. . . I'm afraid this is where we part ways.

The end of his metal cane opened, and he took aim, firing a red flare! Reacting instantly, Ruby shielded Moon, spinning Crescent Rose with enough speed to negate the explosion! The concrete below was scorched, but the teens were left without a scratch! Eyes darted, but Roman was nowhere to be seen! Standing back to back, the two surveyed their surroundings and spotted the mastermind rising up a ladder to a rooftop. . . Ruby looked to the shopkeeper.

Ruby: You okay if we go after him?

After seeing the old man's nod, the teens smiled. Their auras glowed, rose red and magenta purple. Rose petals began to radiate from Ruby's skin, violet crystals materializing out of thin air around Moon. Their semblances intermingled, creating a tornado of roses and shards!

Rose Storm!

Crystal Shard.

Encompassing their holders, the two became masses of petals and crystals, and soared through the air!

—

Roman Torchwick reached the top of the latter. . . and gazed up to the barrel of a rifle.

Ruby: Hello there!

Moon: Hi.

Torchwick: . . . (sighs) I'm not getting paid enough for this.

He blinked once and then flashed them a smirk. The wind began to pick up, their hair flowing with it as they turned to see an airship, a Bullhead, glaring down on them!

Ruby: Oh-!

Moon: -Crap.

A storm of lead rained hell upon them, the two splitting and giving Torchwick his window! The second the gunfire ended, a latter dropped and the man climbed up and dashed! Leaping up, he latched onto a handle and the airship carried him into the air! He wasted no time climbing into the aircrafts bay and turning back to his assailants.

Torchwick: End of the line!

Ousting a Flame Dust Crystal from his sleeve, Roman leisurely tossed it to the roof, taking aim and firing at the shard! Moon and Ruby braved themselves, a violently beautiful volley of flames barreling towards them! Torchwick laughed. . . only to see that the situational vigilantes had been protected by a new player.

Glynda Goodwitch

Glynda Goodwitch

The arrival of a true Huntress was marked by a violet enchantment, the Warrior waving her wand and dismissing the shield. With a second swipe, streams of light bursted from the tip of her weapon and flew into the Bullhead! The aircraft was rocked hard, Torchwick barely managing to balance himself on a wall!

Torchwick: We've got a Huntress!

The pilot immediately exited the cockpit, letting the conman take the controls! The woman stood shrouded in the shades of the hull, an orange aura emanating off her.

Glynda: . . .

Raising her wand, the Huntress channeled her semblance, Witchcraft. With a single swipe, she fired a violet flare into the air above the Bullhead, a magic circle appearing and producing a storm cloud! At Goodwitch's command, the storm rained razor sharp hail upon the aircraft, piercing the metal! The woman aboard the airship scowled, her glass heels clinking against the metal as flames began to rise up her arms. A blast of molten magma flew towards the Huntress, a shield protecting her and splattering the lava onto the rooftop! The enemy raised a hand, the displaced magma rising and igniting into an explosion, Goodwitch cartwheeling out of the blast radius and chanting a spell!

Glynda: Telekinesis.

The debris created by the explosion rose into the air, sharpening and forging into a spear! The Huntress javelined the makeshift weapon, lava blasts splitting apart only for it to reforge and continue on! Torchwick tilted the aircraft, deflecting the spear! The mystery woman caught herself on the wall as Goodwitch swirled her wand and reforged the spear into three streams, preparing to ensnare the bullhead! The woman aboard growled lowly, outstretching her arms and releasing a pulse of heat, melting the streams to ash!

All the while, Ruby and Moon were awestruck. This was not exactly how they expected their day to go. . . Snapping out of their stupors, the duo shared a glance and summoned their semblances! Rose Storm and Crystal Shard creating razor sharp trails of condensed petals and crystals! They split the air, racing after the rising Bullhead, the woman aboard firing concentrated blasts into them and burning away their attempt to bring down the airship! She scoffed and whipped her arm, orange shines appearing on the ground! As they detonated, the teens gasped while Glynda Goodwitch used her telekinesis to pull them away from the explosions! Moon managed to swing his arm forward, a wall of crystals rising from the roof and shielding them from the blast as they hit the ground!

The Huntress had to admit, those were quick reflexes. Unfortunately, the attack on Ruby and Moon provided an opening for the aircraft to takes its leave. . . Glynda narrowed her eyes and shook her head, crossing her arms and turning her attention to the next priority on the list.

Ruby: Y-You're a Huntress. . .

She was collapsed atop Moon, nonchalantly pressing him into the rooftop with her knee as she gazed up at Goodwitch with sparkling eyes.

Ruby: CAN I GET YOUR AUTOGRAPH?!?!?!?

Moon Lumos let out an exasperated sigh. This day was turning out to be far longer than he anticipated. . . .

Ruby Rose and Moon Lumos sat in differing interrogation rooms, cameras aimed on them. Glynda Goodwitch eyed them carefully.

Red was fidgeting in her seat, restless, impatient, and. . . excited?

Violet sat quietly, breathing slowly, nervous, uncomfortable, and. . . tamed.

Glynda: (sighs) Children.

The blonde's emerald eyes veered right, glancing over her shoulder and to her colleague.

Ozpin

Ozpin

Glynda: Which one will you take?

Ozpin: . . . I'll handle Ms. Rose. You're less suited for hypermaniacs, after all.

Glynda: Thanks for the compliment. Are you sure about this? They're children.

Ozpin: Children? Yes. Talented Children? Absolutely. (smiles)

Glynda: . . . . . I don't even want to know what's going on that head of yours.

Ozpin: I'm glad we're on the same page, Headmistress.

Huntsmen, Huntresses, warriors. They were the protectors of the world.

The Grimm were the manifestations of darkness itself, feeding on the negative emotions of mankind. What they desired to appear as, is only left to the imagination of humanity. They were undoubtedly the largest threat to human life across all of Remnant. It is said that one Huntsmen is worth one-hundred Grimm. There are thousands of Huntsman across the world, and there are hundreds of thousand of Grimm. Humanity was and still is vastly outnumbered. . .

That changed. The great nations of Remnant came together, their greatest warriors rising up to create institutions to make the next generation far surpass the old, to give them a better chance for survival.

Beacon Academy of Vale.

Shade Academy of Vacuo.

Haven Academy of Mistral.

Atlas Academy of Atlas.

These institutions trained the best of the best, the most promising youths, and molded them into warriors destined to protect the world. Each producing marvelous Huntsmen, but none coming close to the caliber of Beacon. And here stood its two highest officials. . .

Headmaster of Beacon Academy, Ozpin.

Vice-Headmistress of Beacon Academy, Glynda Goodwitch.

The Red Reaper continued to rock back and forth in her seat, anxiously waiting for whoever would walk through that door. . . to say she was surprised when Professor Ozpin of Beacon opened the door, would be the understatement of a lifetime.

Ruby: . . . Um. . . Hi?

Ozpin: Ruby Rose. . .

The Headmaster leaned in and gazed into the bright silver eyes of his audience.

You. . . have Silver Eyes.

Ruby: . . .?

Red was struggling to find the words, both out of sheer confusion, and the need to not fangirl.

Ozpin: So!

She snapped to attention as the professor seated himself and let the security camera project a recording of the earlier battle onto the table.

Ozpin: It seems you've had an eventful evening.

Ruby: Uh, y-yeah! I-I guess so! I. . . I'm not in trouble am I?

Ozpin: Well, you were merely acting out of self defense, so. . . I suppose not.

She let out a sigh of relief she didn't even know she was holding.

Ozpin: But, I am curious. Where exactly did you learn such combat prowess?

Ruby: Um. . .

Shaking her head, and lightly smacking her cheeks, Ruby straightened herself out just enough for her to make coherent conversation.

Ruby: Signal Academy.

Ozpin: And they taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?

Ruby: Well. . . (scratches her head) One teacher in particular.

Ozpin: I see. . .

The Headmaster of Beacon pressed the tips of his fingers together, carefully surveying how Ruby carried herself, even taking note of her breathing pattern.

Ozpin: It's just that I've only ever seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty old Qrow. . .

Ruby: Ah! That's my uncle!

Ozpin: I beg your pardon?

Ruby: That's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal! I had no idea how to even use a weapon when I walked into that school, but then he took me under his wing and now look at me!

She comically chopped at the air, internally screaming at herself for being such an idiot in Ozpin's presence.

Ozpin: So I've noticed. . . and what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a preparatory school for training warriors?

Ruby: Well. . . My brother and I have always wanted to be Hunstmen and Huntresses!

Ozpin: . . . You want to slay monsters?

The question intrigued the girl, who simply answered the best she could.

Ruby: I mean, kinda. . . We only have two years left in Signal, and then we're going to apply to Beacon. . . and hopefully things go our way. I mean, if our sister got accepted, so can we! It's a family tradition to help people!

She pumped her fist, a little too excited for such a prospect. . . The amused smile on the Huntsman before him nearly killed off her hyperactivity.

Ozpin: . . . Do you know who I am?

Ruby: . . . Professor Ozpin. Headmaster of Beacon Academy.

Ozpin: Hello.

Ruby: Nice to meet ya!

Ozpin: You want the come to my school?

Ruby: More than anything. . .

Ozpin: . . . Well, alright.

. . .
. . .
. . .

Wait, what?

The Violet Swordsman let out a heavy breath, gently tapping his fingers together to ensure that he was actually here and not in a nightmare. The dark walls were suffocating, and the boy didn't know how much longer he'd be able to take it without running to find his sister. . .

Thankfully, he was ripped from his thoughts by the entrance of Glynda Goodwitch. He didn't know if he was less or more comfortable now that she was here. . .

Glynda: Moon Lumos.

Moon: Ma'am. . .

Glynda: Awkward.

She slowly seated herself before him, every last movement she makes in the process being gentle and precise. No sudden movements, no flaunting of any kind. She needed Moon to be comfortable. . .

Glynda: So, let us begin. My name is-

Moon: You're Glynda Goodwitch, the Vice-Headmistress of Beacon.

The Huntress blinked thrice, locking eyes with the boy before her.

Glynda: That is my name, yes.

Moon: My sister's a fan.

Glynda: I'm honored.

Holding up a tablet, the screen displayed the events only a few hours prior.

Glynda: If it were up to me, I'd have simply set you home with a pat on the back and a slap on the wrist for this incident. . .

Moon: . . . Mhm.

Glynda: But. . .

She slid her finger along the screen, the recording changing to another brawl happening weeks ago, and then to another, and another. . . and another. . .

Glynda: This is not the first time you and your sister have been caught in events similar to tonight. Is that correct?

Moon: . . . (nods)

Violet shrunk in his seat, shamefully gazing down to his shoes and resting his hands over his thighs.

Glynda: . . . Is it okay if I ask just a few more questions? If you're uncomfortable, I can-

Moon: No!

Taken aback, the Huntress let her eyes widen beneath her glasses, the recluse biting his lip and breathing.

Moon: Sorry. . . I'm just nervous.

Glynda: And you have right to be. This has been an eventful evening after all.

Moon: M-Mhm. . .

Glynda: . . . Trust me, if you were in any trouble, I wouldn't be here to speak with you.

The soft smile on her face was double edged, one side simply reassuring, and the other akin to a teacher gleefully warning her students to keep out of trouble.

Moon: Right. Ask away.

Glynda: I pulled your file, so I know you attend Signal Academy at the moment, but something tells me that's not the only place contributing to your skills.

Moon: Oh. . . I do a lot of training. Alone and with my sisters, sometimes with my uncle.

Glynda: Well, your sister happens to use a Scythe. I'm curious as to how you made a Shortsword seem like a Zweihänder?

Moon: Self taught.

Glynda: That's quite impressive. I take it you wish to attend Beacon in two years time?

Moon: Yes. I guess so. . .

Glynda: Why's that?

Moon: . . . My sisters are-

Glynda: Sorry, allow to me rephrase.

Why do YOU wish to be a Huntsman?

Moon: . . .

The young man took a moment to ponder the question. It always seemed like a natural choice, but even they have an origin. His reason. . . was because of the deeply rooted desire to protect resulting from the tragedy all those years ago. . .

Moon: I just want to protect people. Do I need a better reason?

Simple. Precise. Honest. It was all Glynda Goodwitch needed to hear.

Glynda: No, no you don't.

Standing tall, Glynda Goodwitch met Violet's analytical gaze.

Glynda: If you had a chance to begin attending Beacon today, would you accept it?

Moon: . . . Not without Ruby.

Glynda: Then that settles it. You're now one of my students.

. . .
. . .
. . .

Wait, what?

The Headmistress proceeded to slam her palms onto the table, Moon flinching from the impact as the teacher glared at him!

Glynda: And as your new professor, please refrain from committing vigilantism! Otherwise. . . I'll be seeing you in my office!

Teachers were never intimidating to Moon Lumos, but Glynda Goodwitch was no ordinary teacher. Needless to say, Violet nodded incessantly. . . .

WE'RE GOING TO BEACON!

Red chanted to the heavens as she and Violet left the police station! The Red Reaper excitedly sprinted across the streets, back and forth to know end as Moon silently walked along the sidewalk. . . until Ruby jumped onto his back, hugging him tight enough to contract his lungs!

Moon: D-D-D-Dying.

Ruby: UWAH! BEST! DAY! EVER!!!!!!!!!.

Moon couldn't help but smile through the pain. It really was the best day ever.

The light of the moon, shined brightly upon Moon Lumos and Ruby Rose, their souls shining through the dark of night. . . .
