Musical Maniacs

Summary:

Lee Minho strongly believed that the drama club was something you would join only if there were no other options left. The drama club on the other hand was already hanging by the threads, and they had only one chance left to deliver a play so good, and save their club. Minho didn't expect to be the main character of freaking Romeo and Juliet. Moreover, he didn't expect his Juliet to be a dimpled blue haired angel.

Chapter Text

Lee Minho strongly believed that the drama club was something you would join only if there were no other options left.

“Hyung,” Jisung deadpanned, “It is really not that different from your dance clu—”

“We don’t talk about that.” Minho interrupted. He was kicked out from the dance club recently, despite being the best dancer in the whole school, just because he attended only one session in an entire year. Minho just didn’t have time to go for practises or meetings, he was so good that he could learn the entire dance segment in two minutes. However, the leader didn’t like that and told Minho to join another club.

There were no other clubs around this time that would be willing to accept someone, since they are all full.

All except the drama club.

"See, if the drama club is the only one that has vacancies then it means it's the least popular." Minho persisted as Jisung rolled his eyes.

Han Jisung, his best friend, wouldn't understand Minho's turmoil mainly because he was in the music club where half of them were rappers and were the cool kids.

"Minho." Jisung started speaking again as he sat on his bed, "This isn't high school, it is college so people are more open minded about drama clubs, you know…"

"Thanks for reminding me that I'm in college, Jisung." Minho stated sarcastically, "I didn't realise after spending two years here."

"Mind that sarcastic tone, young man." Jisung chided as he smacked him on his arm. "Anyways, aren't you supposed to be there now anyways?"

"Yeah, I have to be there at 3pm." Minho answered absent-mindedly.

"Minho it is 3.10pm."

"Wait what?" Minho exclaimed as he jumped up from the bed, picking his phone up and checking the time, "Oh fuck."

Minho quickly rushed to the door as Jisung let out a shriek.

"What?"

"You can't go looking like that."

"Looking like what?" Minho asked, narrowing his eyes.

"Looking like trash." Jisung answered simply.

"You are trash." Minho snapped back as he looked at the mirror. His hair was messy and long, he didn't bother to cut it and now it was standing in places. His face looked fine though and he was at least dressed appropriately in cargo pants and black shirt.

"Did you even shower Minho?" Jisung asked in exasperation as Minho slammed the door behind. Of course he showered.

Minho didn't know anyone from the drama club, which was nerve wrecking as everyone there already looked like they knew each other.

He had to run all the way to the college auditorium leaving him red and breathless, which was not good for first impressions.

Minho wished he could just leave but he needed the extra credits if he had to get into a good university and he decided to just suck it up.

He walked up to a tall guy with long blonde hair, tied loosely into a ponytail, who was standing alone near the entrance, texting on his phone.

The man looked up when Minho approached him, "Who are you?" He asked rudely.

Minho blinked, "I'm Lee Minho, I am new to the drama club."

"You're late." The long haired blonde man stated lazily before putting his phone back inside and waving at him to follow him.

Minho didn't think being late to a club was going to affect anyone but he didn't say anything, just following the man inside.

The man whose name he still didn't know led him straight to another man who looked well built, biceps bulging out his shirt and looked intimidating.

"Hey Changbin!" The blonde man called out as they reached him, "I got you some fresh meat."

Minho coughed as he stared at the well built man whose name was Changbin and wondered if everyone in this club was as intimidating and scary.

"Great! We are doing auditions for an act. You can go up the stage."

Wait. What?

"I'm not here for auditions." Minho quickly stated, his eyes darting between both the men nervously.

"Cmon Minho." The blonde laughed, "We need to really put on a good skit by the end of this year or else our club would disband."

Let it disband then. Minho thought to himself.

"I don't know how to act and what is the script even about?" Minho asked, his eyes wide with frantic.

"Romeo and Juliet." Changbin stated calmly, "Except Juliet is a guy too."

"Yeah, are you okay with that?" The blonde asked him.

Minho didn't know what to answer, was the blonde asking him about his sexual orientation or was he okay with pretending to be in love with a guy? Because Minho liked both men and women, something he realised when he made out with a senior called Minhyuk a year back at a party.

"Yeah." Minho mumbled as he walked up the stage. "What am I supposed to do?"

"I don't know. You're the actor." Changbin shrugged, an annoying smile playing on his lips and Minho hated everything about this.

"What am I supposed to be?" Minho asked again and the blonde groaned as he cupped his hands to his mouth and shouted, "Juliet come out and say your lines so this dude can audition."

Minho swallowed nervously as he stared at the blonde and Changbin from up the stage.

"Be nice, Hyunjin." A soft voice spoke out before a man appeared from the side of the stage, "You don't want to scare him away."

The blonde who Minho finally knew as Hyunjin, softened immediately, grinning, "I'm on my best behaviour."

Minho turned to look at the newcomer, and he was not being dramatic but he could swear angels started singing and the whole world just turned upside down. The man had dark blue hair, which was a beautiful contrast to his pale skin, and had the cutest nose with the most plump, soft looking lips Minho had ever seen.

"Hello." The man smiled at him and Minho could feel his heart stuttering at the sight of the man's dimples.

The man, completely oblivious to the internal battle happening inside Minho, smiled more brightly as he stretched out a hand, "I'm Bang Chan."

Minho swallowed as he took the man, Bang Chan's hand and felt the electric sparks running up and down his arm, leaving his skin tingling after Chan had let go of his hand.

"Minho." Minho managed to choke out.

"He is also your Romeo, Channie. So get acquainted with him." Changbin shouted from the seats.

Minho looked at the man in shock, "I didn't even begin to act."

"I can tell you both have chemistry, I'm a professional." Changbin said before nudging Hyunjin, "Note his name down, we can start rehearsing tomorrow."

Hyunjin nodded his head as he took a tiny notebook out of his pocket, jotting Minho's name down, who was extremely confused. He turned to look at Chan bewildered who just gave him a tiny shrug.

"I trust Changbin and his intuitions." Chan said.

"I haven't acted in my entire life. This is a disaster." Minho groaned, feeling his head throb.

"Yeah, but you also were the only one who joined our club and auditioned, so you better start acting." Minho turned to face the source of that voice. Another man walked out from the side, clad in expensive looking jeans and a thick coat over a branded shirt that Minho was sure he would never be able to afford. The man had white blond hair falling onto his eyes and had a toothpick in his mouth as he stared at Minho lazily.

"And you are…?" Minho asked, feeling more confused and overwhelmed as time passed.

"He is Yang Jeongin." Chan answered before the man called Jeongin could. "He is part of the drama club too."

"And what is his role?" Minho's eyes darted from Chan to Jeongin.

"I'm rich." Jeongin answered with a smirk.

Chan let out a sigh, "Jeongin is rich and it is thanks to him that we were able to afford all the outfits and stuff." He glanced at Jeongin before continuing, "He is also the youngest of us all but loves to pretend that he is the oldest so…"

"Hey!" Jeongin exclaimed before laughing.

"It's true." Hyunjin shouted from below the stage, "You better abide by his rules."

Minho's face probably looked lost and distraught, because Chan placed a hand on his arm gently, "Don't worry." He reassured him, "You will get used to this…" He waved his hands around at the trio before continuing with a shrug, "Soon."

"Okay, time to get back to class, see you all tomorrow, same time." Changbin declared before glaring at Minho, "Don't be late."

Hyunjin and Changbin both prepared to leave, muttering to themselves as Jeongin followed after them. Minho watched them go, feeling helpless. He almost forgot Chan was there until the latter tapped him on the shoulder.

Minho jumped as Chan's lips twitched slightly, "Stop worrying so much." He said as he jumped off the stage, "You will have fun."

Minho was too busy staring at Chan’s dark blue hair to process the statement. By the time he did, Chan was almost out of the doorway, “Wait!” he called out, making the man stop, “How can you be so sure?”

Chan turned around, grinning at him, “Because we are fun people.” He responded simply like that was the best answer, before walking out.
