Work Text:
Carlos lays with his eyes closed while the nurse beside him finishes up with his fresh stitches, his fiancé sitting anxiously in the uncomfortable hospital chair while he watches.
“Okay, you’re all good. Be careful to not pop a stitch, alright?” She says with a nurturing smile and when Carlos looks at her, he nods and returns it.
She leaves and closes the room's door, leaving him and TK alone, the only noise the heart monitor steadily beeping. TK is staring and barely blinking, and if it weren’t for what happened, Carlos would find it endearing.
“How are you feeling?” He asks from the corner, a nervous look on his face as he awaits the honest answer. Carlos wants to lie and say everything’s fine, but clearly, it’s not. “My side really hurts, and the room is spinning.” He whispers the last part.
The last thing he wants to do is frighten TK more than he already has. Obviously, that doesn’t work. The other brings a hand to his mouth to stifle the whimper that escapes anyway, gesturing he’s about to break down.
“Come here,” he whispers softly, going to cry himself if he has to watch TK suffer alone, by himself, any longer.
He climbs into Carlos' bed carefully so as to not jostle him. “I’m okay, look at me. I’m okay.” He directs TK's face to look at his own once he’s close enough.
“You weren’t okay, though. You were lifeless, laying there, pale and cold, and—.” Carlos shuts him up with a gentle, but sweet kiss on his lips. The other's mouth is dry like he hasn’t drank any liquids in longer than twelve hours.
TK sighs heavily and rests his head on Carlos’ shoulder, stroking his left bicep while he lays on the right. “I’m so glad you’re okay. I don’t know how I would’ve ever moved on,” his breath is hot against Carlos’ neck and it makes him feel so much better feeling his fiancés presence.
Carlos hums as he strokes his back. “I was scared. So scared,” he laughs drily and looks away at the freakishly white hospital walls.
“I thought I was going to die before I married you, before I even got to live. My entire life I spent hiding, until I met you. I thought I’d never get the happiness I believed I was so lucky to find.”
“But you saved me. You broke down the door, all brave and strong, - and if I didn’t have a knife to my throat, I would’ve kissed the shit out of you for it - and you saved me.”
TK grins up at him, his eyes wet but his smile wide. “I would’ve killed them if you weren’t on the ground like that, I swear.”
“I believe you. I’m glad you didn’t, though. Now they can rot in prison.”
The other giggles beneath him, lifting himself up and laying a soft, long and drawn out kiss onto his lips, “please don’t ever leave me.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
