Something Like Fate

Summary:

A late night Discussion, and a new home

Notes:

This ended up more Luka/Ahim and less cule than I intended, but I managed to fit everyone in. They’re all just a little bit chill about it because they’ve been together so long, you know?

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“I could easily provide us a ship.”

Laughter.

Ahim supposes that’s fair.

“You know Marvelous wouldn’t,” Luka says.

“I know,” Ahim says. “I still figured it should be said.”

She sighs, snuggling against Luka.

“We do need a new home, however,” she says. “The Galleon May have given us new powers, but those do not a home make.”

Luka hmms.

“I guess not,” she says. “Wouldn’t be the first time, for me. Or you, really. Or… honestly, a lot of us.”

Ahim nods. It’s true enough.

Herself and Joe, on the run from the Zangyack for opposing reasons. Her, a victim of their conquests. Him, a defector who had joined, then fought back, then escaped into new miseries.

And then having left what remained of the Gokaigers, again for opposing reason. Ahim, by choice. Joe, because Marvelous was…

Well, Marvelous. And Joe alone was not enough to fight him onto the mess it all turned into.

And oh, Marvelous himself. Leaving home so young on a hunt for adventure. Finding it, then losing everything.

Then losing it again.

And again.

(Don never had a true home before them, either. Did he?)

Gai is the only exception, but that’s because he’s Gai. Ahim understands how they all fit together, and though she is a calming force, a gentle one, he… is a special kind of light.

“But we’ll figure it out,” Luka says. “Together. We always do.”

Ahim looks away.

“Do you resent me?” She asks. “For leaving? I thought I had made it clear that I was going to return home—”

“Not your fault we couldn’t figure it out,” Luka interrupts. “We should have trusted you.”

Ahim sighs.

“Gai had already left,” she says. “I made a promise I had to keep, and you thought…”

That she had truly left them. Luka laughs, again.

“Well, now we know better,” Luka says. “And we won’t fall for it again.”

Ahim smiles, slowly looking back up at her partner.

“I do believe it,” she says. “But I still worry.”

Luka kisses her.

“We are a crew,” Luka says. “A family. A team. We are all married thrice over at least—”

“Mostly to help you with schemes,” Ahim points out.

“Mostly,” Luka acknowledges. “But marriage is marriage. And now we just need a new ship. Which, apparently, Marvelous is already working on.”

Ahim hmms. They are still split, is the thing. Not by choice, just circumstances. Don (and Navi) had stayed with Gai to make sure the mess on Earth was cleaned up, and Joe was glued to Marvelous’ side, now. Whatever plan they were working on, 3 would be a crowd, so Ahim is handling some legal troubles (oh, to be pirates when one must often work openly with various space police) because she is the only one who knows anything on the subject, and similarly ended up with Luka glued to her.

And now…

“We should return to Earth,” she says. Luka blinks.

“What?”

“I can do my work from there,” Ahim says. “And we can rejoin Gai and Don. And then…”

Then it can be all 6 of them, again.

Like it’s meant to be.

And Ahim truly does think it is “meant to be”. No power ever made could separate them.

The new ship does not quite look like the Galleon. Odd changes in controls, in decor and design.

Their mecha is close to the same, but Ahim runs her hands over the controls of her personal one, and it moves strangely. The cockpit is the wrong shade of grey.

It’s close enough to form the same shapes.

(If they need to.)

It’s close enough that it all pales in comparison to being all together again.

“Well?” Marvelous asks.

“It’s perfect!” Gai says, exuberant as ever. But they are all smiling.

“Where did you even find it?” Don asks.

Joe shrugs. Sounds like an adventure, Ahim is sure.

“Does it matter?” Luka asks. “It’s ours now, isn’t it?”

“It’s perfect,” Ahim says. And she truly believes it.

This mess was just a minor blip. This is how they are meant to be.

I hope you enjoyed!
