Work Text:
If you were to tell Gus that he and Mattholomule were going to become friends way back before he hit his witch puberty, he probably wouldn’t take you seriously. But while that he could believe at least a little bit, that definitely wouldn’t he the case if described to him everything that happened today.
It was Saturday. Normally him and Matt would hang out in the Looking Glass Ruins on that day, if it weren’t raining boiling acid from the sky of course.
“Sooooo… What are we gonna do?” Matt asked. His glass ball laid on the floor with him sitting beside it, crooked in a way that definitely wasn’t healthy for his spine.
“I don’t know. I mean it’s obvious we’re not going to the graveyard today” Said the younger witch, resting his head on his desk, fidgeting with some human realm treasures he collected for the H.A.S.
“We could still hang out somewhere else? I don’t know one of our houses or something maybe” Matt’s voice unsure, getting quieter with every other word.
“Oh? So you wanna hang out with me? I thought we were doing this for the sole purpose of historical preservation” Gus teased, smirking so wide his nose wrinkled up
“Quit it.”
Gus chuckled a little. He rested his chin on his hand. “Nah but now to be serious. We could, but my dad has a lot of paperwork to do and I wouldn’t wanna get in his way, you know?”
“….You could come to mine? Steve has a day off today so that’s gonna be annoying. I can send you my address”
“Dude how am I even supposed to get there without having to say goodbye to my beloved flesh” A valid question. It was pouring rain, and it definitely didn’t plan on stopping any time soon.
“I don’t know. Couldn’t you like, use Emmeline to dash from one roof under the other?” Matt asked, half jokingly.
“That is a mission”
“wait don’t tell me you’re actually planning to do that” Matt said, a little too late because Gus already grabbed his ugliest coat (the one that could go to waste if he were to get some of the rain on it) and started heading to the bedroom door.
“You sending me that address or what?”
.
.
Fifteen minutes later, Gus was already knocking on Matt’s door. Maybe only four or five droplets burned through his jacket.
“How the fuck” Matt said, opening the door. “How did you get here so fast”
Gus just shrugged and went inside.
“You’re insane”
“You should try it some time”
“I would die. I’m pretty sure Emmeline wasn’t very happy during this trip”
Gus looked around the room they were in, searching for a place to leave his coat.
Matt sighed. “Just take it upstairs, come on I’ll show you to my room”
The two witches entered a yellow room, full of posters of the emperor’s coven and photographs.
“So what do you wanna do anyway?” Matt asked and the other boy turned to him.
“It was you who invited me in the first place” Gus laughed, hanging his jacket on a desk chair.
“Wow okay. I have some human movies here on the shelf. I’ve seen them all so you can just pick whichever piques our interest.” Said the shorter witch, closing the door behind him.
“No freaking way” Gus came up to the shelf and searched through the CD’s. He found a series containing of seven movies “Can we like.. watch everything chronologically?”
Matt chuckled “Yeah sure. I’ll go get snacks”
As the older witch went downstairs to the kitchen, the other one took all the seven CD’s and sat on Matt’s bed. His room was small. With all the furniture there was room for only 3 people to stand in next to each other. In a line. To the right of his door and in front of his bed he had a human movie box called, what Gus believes, a Tee Vee which is just.. Wow. He probably stole that from Eda.
“Turns out this lame house has barely any food at all. Bet Steve ate everything. I only found Fried Fairy Wings™” Matt came back, exchanged a pack of snacks for the chronologically first movie, put it into the CD player and sat next to Gus on the bed.
.
.
Gus was super invested in the film. He was watching it and commenting on it all the time. On the other hand, Matt has seen it like four times already and was pretty bored by it, just munching on the chips he brought. He got so bored he automatically laid his head to rest on something. Only that something was Gus’ shoulder.
Matt honestly didn’t notice what he was doing at first, but Gus- Gus almost jumped. He didn’t expect the sudden touch. He peeked at the other boy, unsure if the gesture was intentional or not.
He was just about to lay his cheek on top of Matt’s head, when suddenly Steve burst through the door with a few packs of different snacks in his hands.
“Ayo Matt! Guess what I-“
The older witch looked at the younger boys for several seconds. Gus blinked a few times while Matt’s face grew redder and redder with every passing moment.
“I’m interrupting something aren’t I?” Steve said slowly backing up
“Dude can’t you learn to knock?!” Matt snapped, clearly annoyed
“Wow chill! How was I supposed to know you’re having like… A teenage romantic first love experience” Steve teased.
Gus was now more red than ever.
“Shut the fuck up” Matt hissed, throwing a pillow in his brother’s direction. It hit the door as Steve closed it, walking away laughing.
The two boys just sat there, not entirely sure what to do with themselves.
“Welp. This isn’t awkward at all.” Gus breathed under his nose, tapping on his knees.
“I’m so sorry for that idiot” Matt whined, covering his face.
“Nah don’t sweat it. I saw the Blight twins do and say much worse things to embarrass Amity.” Gus joked, which helped to ease the tension in the room a little bit.
“Yeah I guess all siblings are like that” The scrawnier boy sighed, pulling down his eye bags.
“Can we… go back to where we left at?..” Gus asked shyly, looking everywhere except the other witchling’s eyes.
Matt freezed for a second, his cheeks flushed once again. “Yeah….. Sure…” He laid his head back on the younger boy’s shoulder and continued watching the movie.
