   “I know,” Kerry lies, because of course he doesn’t know V was routinely getting clipped by cars. That’s not even a thing that would have occurred to him to ask: hey V, you play in traffic often?

   Though, truly Kerry’s now realizing he could have said anything: he could have told Johnny, sure, me and V go get hit by cars together, often and vigorously, could have said anything and Johnny would have steamrolled right along.
