Work Text:
Mina's plan in college was just to take as many classes as possible so she could finish her pre-med early. She wanted to attend med school as soon as possible so she could start her internship early.
She didn't plan on meeting new friends, more so a girlfriend. But Im Nayeon came, and Mina had no choice but to change her entire plan.
She first saw her in the orientation program of the University for first-year students. She was the University Student Council's President, so, of course, she'll give a speech for all of them. She looked intimidating standing on the podium, yet felt highly dependable. She chose her words right; she sounded as professional as a 3rd-year college student can be.
She's pretty too, Mina admits that. The men behind her think so, too, since they wouldn't stop talking about her face. She even heard them looking for her Instagram account.
Mina didn't care much then. She's pretty, and so are Sana and Momo. She's not the type to keep a woman in her head just because of her face, but she's the type to keep a pretty smile in her brain.
So when Nayeon smiled at her during the freshmen's welcome party, she just couldn't stop thinking about her. The girl's heart-shaped smile reminded her of a bunny so much that it kept replaying in her head.
"Pretty pres won't stop looking at you," Sana giggled beside her.
Mina turned her head to the direction of the USC's table and saw Nayeon shamelessly looking at her. The lady flashed another smile in her direction before turning her head to the girl beside her.
"Great. Another smile to think about," Mina thought.
"I think she likes you," Sana giggled again.
"Shut up."
The next time she got close to Nayeon was when she went to the council's office to deliver something to Jihyo. Sana was sick and couldn't give it to her girlfriend, so she asked Mina to do it for her.
There wasn't anyone inside the room, but she saw Jihyo's name written on the nameplate on one of the desks, so she figured she could just leave the gift there.
Curiosity got to her when she saw her Instagram account on the phone on the desk beside Jihyo's. Whoever phone it is must've sent a follow request to her, seeing how the "Follow" bar is now replaced by the word "Requested."
It's really not that hard to guess whose phone it is, considering the name written on the desk's nameplate.
Im Nayeon.
But it's hard for Mina to understand why the girl would send her a follow request. They're not friends; they haven't even interacted aside from the exchange of smiles they did during the party.
No matter what the reason was, she knew she was going to accept it. There's nothing much in her IG anyway.
So when she left the office, she grabbed her phone and opened her IG app. But Nayeon's name was nowhere to be seen in her follow requests. In fact, there's only one account in there, Sana's dump.
Was she wrong? Was that phone not Nayeon's? But it's also definitely not Sana's since her friend is nowhere near the University.
She confirmed it wasn't Sana's when she called the girl later that evening. And she confirmed it was Nayeon's when she ate lunch with Jihyo 3 days after.
"Were you the one who left the gift on my desk the other day?" Jihyo asked.
"Oh yeah, no one was there, so I just left it."
"So it's really you," Jihyo laughed.
"Why?" Mina asked, confused at the girl's reaction.
"Nayeon was in the restroom that day, and she heard the door open and close. She went out to see who it was, but no one was there, so she also checked outside the office but she didn't see anyone. She thought it was the infamous ghost of the office," Jihyo laughed hysterically.
Mina smiled when she realised what that meant. Nayeon made a fake Sana dump account to follow her. Why? She's not sure.
And she's also not sure why she finds it cute.
When she and Jihyo separated that day, she immediately pulled out her phone and accepted Nayeon's follow request. She also decided to make her Twitter account public in case Nayeon wants to follow her there too. Nayeon did, just with a dump account.
It's cute how she thinks Mina is not gonna figure it out when her username is literally presbunny, and her main account has a bunny emoji on the bio.
Mina wanted to know Nayeon's plan, so she tweeted her plans the next day. She made sure to include what time she'll be at the café the next day and what time she'll go to the library just to see what Nayeon will do.
She thought she would come, meet her at the café and talk to her, but she's been there for over half an hour, and Nayeon is still nowhere to be seen. She was already losing hope but she saw Nayeon making her way to the café's door.
"She came," Mina thought.
Mina immediately stood up and walked to the entrance, making sure to bump into Nayeon on her way out.
"Sorry," Mina said, knowing damn well she purposely bumped into her.
"It's okay," Nayeon replied, flashing Mina the smile that won't leave the girl's mind for days.
"Nice shirt," Mina complimented, smiling as she saw the small penguin design, "I have the same one."
"Oh, thanks! Found it cute so."
Mina smiled at her, knowing for sure that the reason Nayeon wore that was because she tweeted about penguins being cute last night.
When Nayeon walked inside the library the next day, Mina wasn't surprised anymore. It only confirmed her suspicion that Nayeon was trying to get close to her. Because if not, why would a business student go to the med department's library when they have a more spacious and cosy library in their department?
But what really confused Mina was why the other girl wasn't talking to her. She wouldn't even smile at her unless Mina smiled first. They probably wouldn't even be sitting at the same table now if Mina didn't ask her.
"Do you want one?" Nayeon asked. It was the first time she had initiated a conversation, so it was pretty shocking for Mina.
"What?"
"I said, do you want one?" Nayeon asked again. This time she also slid the already-opened pack of Skittles towards Mina.
Skittles. Mina's favourite.
"Oh yeah, thank you," Mina smiled.
For a few weeks, that became their routine. They'll meet at the library, Nayeon will give her Skittles, and they'll study together.
She honestly thought Nayeon liked Skittles, too, seeing how much candy the girl ate during their study sessions. She even started bringing separate packs for Mina just so she could have one pack for herself.
"I thought you ran out of Skittles?" Sana asked when she saw Mina eating it.
Nayeon left early that day for a class, so Mina was left alone in the lib. She needs to wait for Sana, Jihyo, and Momo since the four of them will be having dinner together.
"Nayeon gave it to me," Mina replied while putting her iPad back in her bag.
"Nayeon eats Skittles?" Jihyo asked.
"Yeah?"
"Oh, it's just that she used to like M&Ms more. If I remember correctly, she wasn't that big of a fan of Skittles," Jihyo shrugged.
"Oh. So the Skittles are really just for me?" Mina thought.
Mina asked her friends to drop by the groceries later that night to buy some M&Ms for Nayeon. If the other girl buys Skittles for her, she'll buy her favourite M&Ms too.
She was planning on giving it to her the next day, but Nayeon didn't come to the library. It was the first time since they started studying together that Nayeon didn't come. It bothered Mina, but she didn't wanna make a fuss about it. The other girl is probably busy.
Nayeon came the next day, anyway. So, Mina thought everything was fine, and the girl was just busy.
But Nayeon started coming less, and it bothered Mina even more. Seeing Nayeon at the business department's student lounge with the famous Yoo Jeongyeon made her uneasy.
When Nayeon came to the library the next day, Mina couldn't help it anymore and just asked why. Nayeon said it was because of council works, but Mina knows that's a lie. Jihyo is literally living in Sana's apartment already because they don't have that much work.
Mina thought Nayeon was already getting bored of her, so she was slowly slipping away. Mina didn't like that.
"Can I have your number?" Mina finally asked after contemplating for a few minutes.
"Number? Why?" Nayeon asked back, her eyes still focused on her book.
"So I'll know if I'll save you a seat here. It's exam season, so the lib will be more crowded in the next few days," Mina cursed herself for lying, but she needed to do something.
"Oh, okay," Nayeon replied and took Mina's phone to type her number.
The first text they exchanged was Mina asking Nayeon if she wanted to study in the café at the back of the University instead since the library was full already. It was a lie, of course. The library isn't full; she just really wanted to spend some time with Nayeon at the café.
Soon enough, the two of them started texting each other more. And soon enough, Mina didn't have to lie about the library being full just so she could ask Nayeon for a date.
Yup, a date. For Mina, those hangouts at the café are dates. For Nayeon, Mina's not sure.
"Can you just tell Nayeon you don't like girls who know how to play games?" Jihyo asked when she and Sana visited her.
"What? Why?"
"Dude, she sucks at it! She's been bugging me to teach her LoL, and I've never met someone as dumb as her in games," Jihyo said, her frustration evident in her voice.
Mina just laughed at her. Because of her IG stories, she knows Nayeon's been learning how to play games. She's been encouraging the girl, too, by replying to her stories. She even invited her to her apartment, so she could teach her.
"What does that have to do with Mina?" Sana asked.
"Nayeon's obviously trying to impress her!" Jihyo told her girlfriend, the frustration still not leaving her face and voice.
"Oh!"
It was like a light bulb lit up in Sana's head when she realised what Jihyo meant.
Before Sana could even tease her, Mina immediately walked away and answered her phone.
"Hello, Nay?"
"Hey! Are you busy?" the girl on the other line asked.
Mina looked in her living room and saw Jihyo and Sana munching on the pizza that they had ordered.
"No, I guess I'm not," she said, silently praying Sana won't get mad at her for ditching them.
"My mom bought me legos and puzzles. Do you want to build them together?"
Mina smiled upon hearing Nayeon. Legos and puzzles, right. Mina's favourites, again.
"Sure. I'll be there in a few," she replied, already walking to her room to get a jacket.
"Okay, take care!" Nayeon happily said before hanging up.
"Where are you going?" Sana asked when she saw Mina wearing her jacket.
"Nayeon's. Apparently, her mom bought some legos and puzzles for her, and she wants me to help her," Mina replied while tying her shoes.
"Dude, that's a fucking lie! Her mom would never buy her those since she knows how bad Nayeon's attention span is," Jihyo said while laughing.
"I know," Mina replied with a smile before she left her apartment.
Of course, Mina knows. Nayeon isn't really that great at lying anyway. But she won't tell the other girl because she finds her efforts and dedication to making Mina fall for her cute.
Mina also knew that when she entered Nayeon's apartment that day and saw the lady in the kitchen preparing some food for them, she'll have to change all her life plans to include her.
That year, Mina's plan of taking as many classes as possible to finish college early turned into taking only the recommended ones and probably a few more, just so she could save some time for Nayeon.
That month, Mina's plan of starting med school early turned into starting med school with Nayeon by her side.
That day, Mina's plan of spending her days saving people's lives turned into coming home to Nayeon after saving someone.
"So, my cute little mastermind, what I'm really trying to say right now is you don't need an elaborate plan just to have me. Just smile, and I'll get down on my knees, ready to give you anything you want. Because that's how much I love you. I love you enough to let myself fall for your traps, to make you believe that I fell for your little lies, to turn a blind eye while you're scheming something, to plan things with you, and to change my plans to make yours come true," Mina said, trying her best not to cry as she watches her soon-to-be wife wipe her tears, "Accidental or not, I'm yours alone."
The crowd cheered as soon as Mina finished her vow. But none of those cheers mattered, not when she could audibly hear her heart pounding too.
