Chapter Text
The sun shone brightly. Its warm white light shone through the endless sea of leaves above. Illuminating the forest with a calm green glow. Bird song filled the brisk spring air with soft chirps and the rustling of leaves from gentle gusts of wind. All to give life to the forest as a woman waited patiently below. She stood at the forest’s edge. A path that was old and worn, decorated with gravel, welcomed the woman forward. But still, she waited. Watching as branches swayed along the currents of the wind. A small smile pulled at her cheeks. A tired edge to her eyes as she looked to the road behind her. Ebott City’s very own monster town was quiet this late into the morning. Typically cars weren’t often used in the area. But that was no surprise to Sage as she turned to face the road. Her smile widened as a purple pickup pulled to a stop before her.
“Toriel! Lovely day today ain’t it?” The young woman called. Giving a gentle wave to the window as it rolled down.
“Hello Dear!” The goat mom smiled from the driver’s seat. “It’s great to see you again! How have you been holding up? I hope the brothers haven’t been causing you too much trouble.”
The purple-haired woman couldn’t help but chuckle in response, rubbing the freshly buzzed hair on the back of her neck. “Ah, they’re no trouble really. But, I should say Sans and I do cause quite a skele-ton of trouble for Papyrus.” The little pun drew a snort from the goat woman. Followed quickly by the groan of two new voices coming from the back seat. With another chuckle, the younger woman continued. “Yeah, Paps says he doesn’t like puns. But if ya ask me. He finds them humerus.”
The woman once again snorted, accompanied by a small cackle. Behind her, the back seat window slowly rolled open revealing two faces. A young child with hair cut just below their chin, a wave of brown bangs delicately framed their forehead, and a golden flower planted snugly in a terracotta pot. Both the human and monster wore a sour expression. The purple-haired lady couldn’t help but snort.
“Ah, sorry guys. Forgot you two weren't punslingers.” She gave a small wink. Earning once again groans and an exasperated arm wave.
“Please stop the torture…” The flower gripped, throwing what looked to be his head back. Running his leaves across the white surface that made up his face. “You’re killing us!”
Toriel gave a soft snicker as she turned to face the duo. “Well, I’d bet you two wanna head out anyways. Best we give them a break Sage.” The goat looked at the older human with a warm smile.
“Ah, they wouldn’t know a good joke. Even if it hit them in the face.” Sage admitted, patting the child on the head. “Alright, c’mon Frisk, Flowey. We got somewhere to be so let's go.” They spoke quickly, excitement ringing through their voice. With a quick motion, she opened the door. Helping to hold the flower while Frisk grabbed their bag and hopped out. Handing him back with a soft smile.
Sage pushed the door closed, the two waving Toriel off before heading into the forest. A hip in their steps. Sage lead them through the forest with a warm smile. “Great day isn’t it kid.” She sighed happily, slowing to walk beside them. “Surprised he decided to come along today. Better than being stuck inside a stuffy room all morning.”
Frisk gave a small nod in agreement, shifting the flower to the side to free their opposing hand. With steady movements, they signed to their fellow human. ‘ Course. The little guy gets restless. He needed some fresh air and sun .’ The youngster gave the flower monster a gentle pat on the head, a wide grin on their cheeks.
“Friiisk. Don’t patronize me. Oh my stars.” Flowey only responded with a long groan. His head tilted back with the words, face scrunching with displeasure.
The two humans laughed along. Sage gently patted the teen child on the back. The three continued on their way, each talking about the day they had. Sage, brought a lighthearted pun to the mix. Explaining just how annoyed their friend Papyrus had been with the same one Sans had spewed about earlier that day. Frisk explained how they had been excelling in school. How Toriel’s school was the best they had been in a very long time. Something even Flowey could agree with. The rest of the way was filled with laughter and joy, with the occasional groan or two. Both stemmed from the little golden flower that accompanied them.
It wasn’t long until the path slowly transitioned from loose gravel to an overgrown cobble path. Each stone was separated by a row of greenery. Leading the small group forward into an opening within the tree line. Before them, the forest opened up to a large clearing. A meadow of grass bathed in the sun’s golden glow. To the right, another stepping stone cobble path leads to a rather large stream. The water is crystal clear, a natural blue hue taking it. To the group’s left, is a small garden. Not yet was it growing any plants, the logs of wood made up the troff. Suspending it just slightly above the grassy meadow. beside it, a large bag of soil lay across the ground, with a few bags of seeds. Following a similar path towards the center of the clearing was a cottage.
The cottage’s walls were put together with cobble, wooden beams holding it together at its corners. Round-shaped windows decorated the fantasy-inspired home. Moss grew at its edges, roof was made of wooden shingles. Each one was hand-crafted and individual. The home extended to a second floor. Windows decorated with vines of ivy, reaching across the home in natural waves. The home itself was a tad larger than a normal home.
The home was one made with love, a patchy cobblestone path coming from its rather large door meeting the path where the humans stood. A smile spreads across their faces. This place was not only quaint and quiet, but a friendly one. It felt like a home to anyone. A home to which they knew best.
Before the group, knelt beside the cobble path, a woman held a spade in hand. One gently cupped the root ball of a flower nest, and she leaned her weight to the left as she dug a small hole into the ground. Her skin was gray, her hair was black. She had the frame of a woman. But the fluffy feather-like antenna and wings spoke otherwise. This woman was a monster, just like the flower in his pot, just like the goat in her car. And the humans approached, smiling wide.
“Mornin Lumi!” Sage called over, gently taking the pot from Frisk, they watched as the younger brown-haired teen dashed forward. A small chuckle escaped her chest.
With the power of a freight train incarnate, the teen, not much older than, say, a 14-year-old plows into the woman’s back. A surprised yelp escaped her as she fell into the soft grass on her stomach. Her laughter was warm and sweet as she leaned up, carrying the child along with her. Pulling Frisk from her back, and into a tight hug. Two arms supported the teen, while two others pulled them tight to her person.
“Hello to you too Frisk.” The woman spoke softly, smiling warmly to the child as her fits of laughter died away. Bringing a hand to rest warmly on their head, she turned to face the flower and the remaining human. “And hello you two. How are you, my children?” The monster stood taller than the young woman. Possibly at 6 feet compared to the younger’s 5'5 stature.
Sage couldn’t help to stop the smile that spread across their cheeks. A small tilt to her head as she turned their head up to look the woman in the eyes. “We’ve all been good, Lumi. Frisk was telling me about some magic they started learning at school. Apparently, Papyrus has a hand in that class.” Lumi’s smile continued to grow as the teen shifted in her grip. A wide toothy smile on their face.
“Is that right? From trying to become a royal guard, turned chef, and now a teacher? That’s quite the accomplishment!” Frisk continued to nod, wiggling out of the woman’s grip. They held onto her arm, continuing to smile.
‘ He’s not really teaching. He’s a teaching assistant. ’ Frisk explained quickly, their hands shifting along their space with ease. Lumi followed along, her eyes never leaving the child.
“Is that true? Who would’ve guessed? I never thought he was so skilled with magic.” Lumi spoke, her words careful. Truthful in her concern. “Are you sure he has ample control over his attacks?”
Frisk furrowed their brows, nose scrunched as they nodded quickly. Almost not believing the gal, not giving the idea another thought. ‘ He does!!! He knows how dangerous he can be! And can control his attack output exactly. He’s always only EVER brought me down to 1 HP. ’ The youngster signed furiously.
“I can attest to it. Pappy’s got some godpowers with those attacks. He knows his stuff just as well, if not more so than the other monsters.” Sage explained, coming to stand beside Frisk. Gently ruffling the kid’s hair. Holding Flowey securely in her opposite hand. “I’ve seen him fight firsthand, and seen his and Frisk’s sparring matches. It’s a marvel to see.” She admitted with a shrug, Humming to herself.
Lumi couldn’t help but gasp at the idea. Her hands quickly placed themselves atop her soul. “He hasn’t! Frisk, you must be careful!!! It’s very serious to be on 1 HP!” Her tone shifted from warm, to harsh quickly. Shaking her pointer to the child.
“It is, just ask Sans,” Sage stated simply. Giving a small shrug with a soft hum. “But that’s exactly why Pap knows how to hold his punches Lumi. He had to be careful with his brother.” The young woman explained with a tired smile. “We all gotta be careful. You know that m-” She quickly cleared her throat, “Lumi.” She hummed softly. Frisk nodded along with puffed-out cheeks. Gesturing wildly towards Sage with open palms and pointed fingers. Lumi listened to each word. A soft sight escaped her lips. Closing her pure white eyes, she nodded in agreement.
“Yes… you are right my child.” With a frown, she nodded once more. “I suppose that was a little… insensitive of me. And I apologize.” With a gentle hand, she placed one on either the human’s shoulders. Lowering her head solemnly.
Frisk batted her hand away with a quick huff. Waving away the apology. ‘ No need to be sorry. It's ok. ’ They signed with a smile, ‘ We understand. And now, so do you. So turn that smile upside down! ’ Sage rested her free hand atop Lumi’s. A small smile accompanied it with a small nod.
“Ah. I suppose you are right, Frisk.” Lumi paused for a moment. Her hand gently gripped Sage’s shoulder lightly before pulling away. “Now… I do have some work set out for us young ones today!” Lumi smiled warmly at the small group before her. “I’ve needed to decorate this path with a few flowers. Hopefully, ones that can grow and thrive in the coming years.” She hummed softly to the humans.
The two humans followed as Lumi faced the small cottage. A few flowers still in their nursery pots decorated the lawn. “Come, once we get these planted, dinner should be ready,” Lumi admitted, crouching down to hand the two humans gardening gloves according to their sizes.
“And don’t forget loves. I do happen to have something for you both..” Lumi spoke warmly, gently giving Frisk a pat on the head.
Soon, each human knelt before the soil. Sage, placing Flowey down with a careful hand. Slowly, the three began to dig into the earth. The soil shifted with each adjustment of the spades. Lumi was left to remove the plants from their old pots, before placing them into their holes.
Each person had a job. Even Flowey partook in the activity, assisting with removing the plants from their old homes. His vines worked with care as they were placed into their new rooted location. Frisk dug away at the dirt, the fresh scent of dew, grass, and mud filled the air as they worked.
The sun watched along, slowly shifting within the sky as time went on. One blue, one white. Maybe a daffodil here, a marigold there. The path came to life with colors, each flower giving a natural light to the meadow. It was a beautiful sight. Sage pressed her hand firmly into the soil. Patting down the loose dirt that held an echo flower in its mound. A little garden of glowing blue flowers was left beside the river. With a soft huff, she pulled away. Leaning back with the sound of their names being called in front of the cottage. Frisk, Flowey in tow, headed inside.
Sage took her time. A tired smile was warm as she patted her hands-free of the remaining soil. This was life. A calm, collected life. Filled with the joy and appreciation of family. A family Sage cared deeply for. A mother figure, a brother figure, and a friend. It was enough. That was all she needed. With a slow breath, Sage entered the home with a wide smile.
Inside the cabin, it felt like home. The scents of a home-cooked meal filled the air, and the inside was cozy, as was the air almost feeling like a warm hug pulling the young woman in. Slowly, Sage closed the door behind her, pushing past the mudroom, and discarding her muddied sneakers beside two other muddled shoes. She stepped into the main living room, the walls painted a warm brown. The chairs are a cool blue. To her left, Frisk sat at the table. Flowey looked over their shoulder, looking down at some paper they held. He muttered quietly to them. Pointing his leaf accordingly. Frisk nodded along, signing a question now and again.
In the kitchen, Lumi scraped along pots and pans. Her smile was wide as she hummed along to a radio. The song it played was nothing too extraordinary, but it was enough. It was upbeat and calm. Perfect in a familial setting. Especially if one were trying to focus.
Sage walked on, giving the duo at the coffee table a quick hair ruffle as she passed. Frisk snorted as Flowey smacked her hand away, his face aghast. Sage only responded with such a shit-eating grin, it was one to rival even Sans himself. She stuck her tongue out before stepping into the kitchen, she came face to face with a disapproving Lumi. Sage shrank a bit, smiling at the moth-like monster.
“Hey, Lumi.” She hummed softly. “What’s with the long face?”
Lumi huffed, adjusting a large tray of assorted foods. There were bread rolls, as well as a few warm stews. “Sage…” She spoke, her voice warm, but stern. “You need to leave Flowey alone. You tease him too much.”
Sage waved her off with a smile, shaking her head with a chuckle. “Ahh leaf it be. He’s just a late bloomer. Just gotta grow into a pair.”
“Sage!” Lumi scolded quickly, hiding a smile growing on her face. “Stars! Sans is such a bad influence on you. I swear.”
Sage couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Lumi, you say that all the time! I promise he isn’t.”
“Oh he isn’t now? Well. Say that to your filthy hands!! Go clean ‘em. Go go!” Lumi scolded with a smile, shifting out of the way as she lifted a few more items with unoccupied hands.
“Okay Okay!! I was planning on it!” Sage laughed along, making her way around the woman and to the sink. Rolling up her jacket sleeves, the human washed her hands. With a quick shake, the excess water fell into the sink. She dried them, grabbing onto a stack of plates, bowls, and utensils. Swiftly, she brought them into the dining room. Placing one of each for the group.
“Thank you, Sage.” Lumi hummed softly, working to spread out the dishes with a soft hum. “Ah-! Damn it.” The monster hissed softly, gently rubbing her forehead. Both of the humans looked at the monster with a raised brow.
“Everythin’ alright Lumi?” Sage asked carefully, hurrying to set the rest of the utensils in the proper places.
“Yes yes, everything is fine.” She sighed, waving the two off as she made her way into a seat at the table, placing the assortment of dinner foods. “It’s just a little headache is all…” She admitted with a small frown.
Sage frowned along, placing the final spoon in front of Frisk, who worked away at their current homework. “You’ve been getting a lot of those lately… Are you sure it’s ok?”
“Of course love, like I said before, it’s just my body getting used to the surface again.” She assured the restless human softly. “It’s just… not used to the lack of magic just yet.”
“I would understand that if we had just come to the surface, but it’s been two years since then Lumi.” Sage pointed out. “It’s worrying me…” Frisk quickly looked up, taking a moment before nodding in agreement.
Lumi shook her head softly. “I’m sure it’s nothing love, promise.”
“You say that now, but what if it gets worse?” Sage asked cautiously, resting her palms on the table as she leaned forward. “What if it’s something more than just- dizzy spells or migraines.”
“Sage,” Lumi spoke sternly. “I assure you. It is nothing to be concerned about. You should be more concerned about getting a job… Right? Humans your age are worrying about that more than worrying about my health.” Sage could only huff in response, rubbing her face with a quick hand.
“Lumi. Of course, I’m worrying about you. And so is Frisk, this shouldn’t be a normal occurrence.” Sage scolded in return, looking at the woman cautiously. “Maybe we should let Alphys and Sans know. They’re the ones most adept with- magic stuff.” She pressed, gesturing her hand out.
“No- no Sage, there is no need. They are already very busy. Aren’t they?” Lumi returned, shaking her head as she continued. “I wouldn’t want to cause any more pressure or stress.”
Sage took in a deep breath, closing her eyes as she went silent. She paused one moment, turning to two. Looking at Frisk, they frowned, nodding along. “We care about you Lumi. We care a whole lot. We…” Sage took in a deep breath. “ I care so much. I don’t want to lose you… I don’t want to lose any family again… Please.” Sage practically begged, lowering her head, eyes clenched shut. “I can’t lose anyone. Not again … Please…”
That made Lumi fall silent, watching the older human. With a gentle hand, she pulled Sage into a tight hug. Closing her eyes with a mute sigh. “If… It meant that much to you… Both of you. I will ask them to take a look.” She spoke delicately. “Is that alright…?”
Sage gave a small nod, hiding her face away in Lumi’s frame. Frisk behind her, nodded along. ‘ You better.’ Frisk signed, their face pulled into a scowl.
Lumi could only smile, opening a space for Frisk to join in on the hug. They accepted the offer graciously, diving into their arms.
“We…” Sage drew a deep breath. “We love you Lumi. As a friend, and a safe space.” Lumi smiled solemnly at the thought.
“You, and Frisk, I see as my own magic. My own children.” Lumi spoke softly. Gently, she pulled the two humans closer. Encasing them with as much love as she could give. “Don’t ever forget that..” With a gentle, yet frantic pat from Frisk, Lumi released the two humans. All to a gagging Flowey’s gall. Dramatically, Frisk took rapid deep breaths. Allowing for Sage to burst into laughter.
“Oh c’mon, Frisk! Not her fault you’re so short!” Sage gently noogy the younger’s head. “So stop being over dramatic.” Frisk only huffed and puffed in response. A wide smile on their face. Lumi couldn’t help but laugh along. Gently petting the two hairs.
“Okay! We get it. You love them so dearly.” Flowey spat from the table. His leaves curved into one another, almost as if crossing his arms if he had them.
“Oh stop being such a downer. Not our fault ya can’t feel shit.” Sage remarked, earning a scolding glare from the younger human, and mother monster respectively. “What-? It’s true ain’t it?”
“It is. But the way you said it, Sage. Was not right.” Lumi scolded with a sigh, only to have Frisk nod in agreement.
Sage only responded with a waved hand. Gesturing to the golden flower with a scowl. “Listen. Bro nearly killed me, and you Lumi. Not to mention tried to kill everyone .” She spoke harshly, keeping herself turned to the two before her. “So if ya ask me, I’m justified in saying that.”
Lumi let out a long sigh, closing her eyes as she spoke. “Sage… We have no clue what happened that day… None of us remember it. Just… to wake up and the Barrier be broken.” She turned to Frisk with a small hum. “Isn’t that right dear?"
Frisk with a small jolt, they turned their head quickly to the monster. A slight smile on their cheeks. ‘ Yes- right. You’re right. No one knows. ’ Their hands moved swiftly, shaking at the edges of their words. Sage could only huff in response. Turning her attention to the window.
“Alright alright. Agree to disagree... C’mon, we gotta eat Frisk. It’s getting late. And I gotta get you back to Toriel.”
Lumi followed her gaze, the sun outside had fallen not far past the tree line. The stars above shone along a pelt of silver. The moon takes its rightful place in the dark sky. Ushering away the day’s warm pinks and reds. Followed by the cool brisk taste of the night. Dark velvet blues and purples swirling into the sky.
“Ah, yes. Frisk, your mother should be here soon. If not, already.” Lumi hummed along, lifting the younger human’s bags. She headed for the door. “It won’t be a long walk, so I should be able to see you both off. Of course.” Frisk lifted the potted flower to follow along, frowning to themself. “Make sure you take some food for the road. And some for Toriel as well!”
Sage chuckled as she quickly grabbed a few containers to place the untouched dinner within. A collection of disposable spoons, and the additional bread. Before placing it into a bag follow the group along. “All ready done. Let’s get these kids outta here.”
The cool early spring night pricked their cheeks. Sage raised her head, a small smile pulling at her lips as she took in the cool winds. “Sad winters coming to an end. The cool air? Always a pleasure.” She admitted with a soft hum. “Although not a lot of people would agree with me.”
Frisk gave the woman a quick elbow to the side. Grinning silently they went on quick feet ahead to join Lumi in stride. Signing away as they walked. Sage couldn’t help but smile at the three. Letting out a quiet breath, she closed the door. Following the small group through the same forest that took her to the home. Only to allow the darkening forest to give way to a familiar street. The same purple pickup sat waiting beside the tree line. Frisk already found themself sitting in the truck. Buckling Flowey’s pot to the seat, followed by their own.
Leaning against the window, Lumi smiled at Toriel. The goat woman smiled warmly back. “I’m glad to hear they both did well today. Frisk has been talking nonstop about seeing you.” She explained with a hum.
“Ah, have they? I wouldn’t have guessed.” Lumi responded, glancing at the child knowingly.
“I’d say, they practically ran you over!” Sage chuckled, making her way to lean beside Lumi.
“Ah! Hello Sage, It is great to see you again my child!” Toriel hummed happily.
“Ah, jeez c’mon Tori. Ya just saw me this morning!!” Sage chuckled softly. “It hasn’t been too long.” She waved a dismissive hand, letting the action take up her arm as she dismissed the idea. With a chuckle from the goat monster, she laughed along as well.
“Oh you got to be kidding me, Sage, you are still family. So it is always a pleasure to see you, child.” Toriel insisted, a grin pulling at her cheeks as Frisk and Flowey groaned along. She took a glance at Lumi with a smile. Lumi looked back, tilting her head. Only to respond with her mouth shaped into an o shape, as recognition took her features.
“That’s right Sage, she’s got a point! It is truly always amazing to see you.” Lumi insisted, grinning down to the Human. Sage groaned as she looked between the two, shaking her head as she spoke up.
“One, not a child any more guys.” Sage huffed, her arms finding themselves crossed along her chest. “And two," she held up two fingers as she spoke. “You guys always say that. But you both make it seem I never see you guys!” She finished, exasperatedly throwing her arms up in a quick motion. “But I see you both nearly every day!”
Lumi’s smile twitched at the edges, but she nodded along. “Yes yes, you are right love.” She agreed softly, with a glance at the truck’s center console. The moth’s wings fluttered with surprise, her brows raised at the edges. “Ah, look at the time. I fear it is in the best interest of everyone to hurry home!” The woman hummed, pointing to the large screen’s designated clock. She took a step back, gently pulling Sage along with her.
“We should let you both hurry home now. Don’t want to make dear Frisk tired in the morning.” The young human puffed out their cheeks at the comment. Glaring through clenched eyes to the woman, who mouthed a small apology.
“Ah-! You are right! I am so sorry to end our time tonight short dear. I must not have been paying attention to the time…” Tori frowned softly. Shaking her head, she turned to the duo. “It was lovely to see you both again, truly. For now, I suppose we call it a night.” Toriel smiled warmly, waving goodbye to the two. Frisk followed with an enthusiastic wave.
With great care, the truck backed up. Slowly shifting forwards into the road, before driving away. Leaving the monster human duo alone. Sage stood for a moment, watching the truck disappear over the hill. “Well… I suppose that means I should head out as well.” Sage hummed, turning to face the moth woman with a warm smile.
“I suppose- but are you sure you can walk alone?” Lumi asked cautiously. Placing a hand carefully on Sage’s shoulder. “I wouldn’t mind walking you-! It’s not like we’re in the underground don’t ya know!” She gave a soft chuckle.
“M- Lumi.” Sage cleared her throat. “I’m fine. Really. You don’t have to keep walking me everywhere.” She assured, placing her hand atop the other’s. “It’s not like I’m 15 anymore. I can do it on my own.”
Lumi couldn’t help but let a smile slip. Gently ruffling the woman’s hair she chuckled. “You’re right. What are you now.. 17? Gosh- stars forbid. 18!?” She asked exasperatedly.
“Hey-!” Sage laughed, pushing her hand away with a wild grin. “I’m only 20. Sheesh! I’ll be ok! Promise.” She spoke, continuing to bat away Lumi’s hand, snickering as she attempted to ruffle her hair again. “Just going to the brother’s house. Nothing more, nothing less. Ok?”
With a heavy sigh, Lumi smiled sadly, pulling her hand away with a nod. Her antennae slowly smoothed back against her hair. “Ok. Fine, fine. You’re right, you’re old enough.”
“See-? I told ya. I’ll be fine, been on the surface for a while ya know.” Sage chuckled in response. “Plus, I’ll be back tomorrow. Ok?”
“Okay… goodbye dear…” She waved lightly. Her smile slowly faltered into a slight pout. Her shoulders were hunched in the slightest bit.
“Goodbye, Lumi.” Sage smiled softly, turning to take a step to leave. She paused, glancing back at the woman… She thought for a moment, before throwing herself forwards and swinging her arms around her. Tightening her grip with a wide grin. Lumi, taken aback, could only grin happily. Quickly pulling the woman tightly to her chest.
The embrace was held for just a few moments. But for them, it felt much too short. Sad smiles were exchanged, both giving their soft goodbyes as they took their leave. Lumi watched as Sage gave one more goodbye, before disappearing behind a corner. A solemn smile decorated her lips as she watched the young woman stop out of sight. Slowly the moth entered her neck of the woods. Wading through the darkness with a solemn smile all the way…
Her home once warm and lively, now felt cold and bleak. The moon’s light was enough for the monster to see the way. The grass was bathed in its cool white light. The door just sat, waiting for her approach.. and soon. She took its handle and stepped inside. Shutting the cottage door with a meaningful tug.
As soon as the oak door closed, it found itself opened once again. Letting in the cool spring breeze. The sun’s warm glow shone down into the lively meadow. Lumi stood tall before the two humans that stood happily before her. There she stood, wearing a floral tank top with a few words to adorn it. ‘The EARTH without the ART is just EH.’ was written across her torso. A loose black skirt with a similar flower design to her shirt.
Before her, Frisk stood with a wide grin. Shorts over top tights, a green shirt depicting the earth with a bandage overtop, as well as casual brown boots. All the while Sage stood tall with green hair and a red planeteer T-shirt. Red gloves, red shorts, and red shoes. A wide grin across both their faces. Flowey was painted to look like the planet. Much to his disgruntled grumblings. Lumi grinned, ooed, and awed at their work. Quickly welcoming them within the home with a wide smile. Each one piled through the door happily. Thanking Lumi for her hospitality as the door once again closed.
The door opened again, just as quickly as the last. The sun now descended into the tree line. A warm golden light shone down onto the cottage, its windows adorned with blooming vines and flowers, growing lively in the warm air. Temperatures began to rise, leading a warm gentle breeze to flow through the emerald green trees. Lumi stood once more within her doorway. A long ankle-length floral dress flowed within the breeze, looking over the meadow’s clearing with a small hum. A large straw hat was placed gingerly atop her head. Her long black hair was tied up into a traditional messily done bun. Before her, Sage stood with a wide grin. Flowers in hand, and a browned orange sweater tied around her waist. Tattered shorts, a black spaghetti strap tank top, and her usual purple sneakers and purple hair. Slowly the woman held out the bouquet, a wide grin on her face. Lumi looked between the Lilies of the valley, to the pink roses and white tiger lilies.
Not far behind the human, stood Toriel. Smiling warmly towards the fellow monster. Frisk held a bouquet of carnations and purple peonies. Toriel held a bouquet of roses. Some white, some purple. But most importantly, a splash of red roses. Out in full bloom. The two-handed the bouquets to the moth, all smiling wide. Lumi smiled wider, sending Toriel a deep look, before welcoming the group into her home. Smiling and chuckling along with their chatter. Gently closing the door behind her with a good tug.
And yet again, the door opened wide. Lumie held three large dishes in hand, grinning behind her as she stepped out into the growing night. The moon has found its place in the sky. Lighting up the evening. Lumi smiled down at the array of decorations to had found their way into her lawn. Small red white and blue pinwheels, with painted rocks of various colors aligned with them. Small sparklers lit up the night as Frisk chased around a small kid wearing red white and blue stripes. Fumbling over their own feet, before falling face-first into the earth. The yellow and brown monster jumped right back to their feet, grinning wide to a laughing Frisk.
By the babbling brook, stood Papyrus, Undyne, and Asgore, working together at a burning grill. The trio spoke intently on the best way to cook the pack of ribs stuck to the end of Asgore’s barbecue fork. At a picnic table not too far away, decorated with an assortment of snacks and fruit. Stood Alphys, Sage, Toriel, and Flowey. All are painted and decorated with the same reds whites and blues. Alphys explained with a smile her thoughts of the beauties of a firework. All the while Toriel and Sage laughed at the several puns to spilled from the tired skeleton’s teeth. Above, the boom of a cracking skyrocket brightened the night sky with an explosion of colors. Followed by another, and another. Filling the starry sky with shimmers of gold, blue, and red.
Slowly, the embers floated through the stars. A column of smoke rose through the sky. Carrying along it the same amber embers into the air, followed with it, flecks of ash and warmth. Below, the boisterous laughs and cackles of the monsters and humans. Lumi leaned into Toriel, eyes clenched shut in a feverous laugh. Sage Frisk and Sans snickering along leaning to one another as seven marshmallows on sticks roasted above an open flame. Papyrus and Flowey looked between themselves, watching as everyone, Undyne and Alphys included, fell into fits of cackles and snorts. Only to be met with an array of burnt marshmallows.
With a quick laugh, Lumi stood making her way back home. With a swift pull, the door opened to two figures. Before her on the cobble path riddled with orange and red leaves stood Frisk wearing a large pointed hat. A long emerald green and purple dress, an old broom in hand. beside her, Sage stood tall with Flowey snaking across her limbs. His petaled head covered her left eye. A small annoyed smile on his face. Lumi oohed and was awed at the sight. She was wearing a white dress with a strawberry pattern throughout. A small apron tied to her waist.
With a gentle wave of her hands, she encouraged the humans into her home. Closing the old reliable door behind the costumed crusaders.
