Work Text:
Darkness slowly painted itself against the dusky Cornerian sky, stars garnishing the dusk’s fine hem. Cornerias moons shone gently over the ocean, creating an elegant glimmer upon the surface.
A lone Arwing delicately grazed its wings upon the gentle waters, brushing back small droplets of liquid with its wings as it flit over the water’s shoal and into the dark night.
Fox held the steering wheel firmly in his paws, leaning back in his chair. Falco was scrunched up beside him on the floor, his head tenderly draped over Fox’s thigh. His feathered fingers were folded up gently in his lap; their two heartbeats were in sync, and all was calm. That is, until Fox blurted
“Hold on!”
And quickly launched the ship into a somersault, giving Falco barely enough time to cling onto the latter as to not get flung around the ship. They laughed in unicen as they came back down to glide upon still waters. Fox wiped his eye with his left paw, but just when he set it back down on the steering wheel he outstretched his right arm to adorn Falco’s shoulders.
“It really is over, isn’t it?” Falco thought out loud, to which Fox’s ears perked in response
“Mm, there’s always something.” He said, staring directly through the windshield
“Well, you know what I mean.”
“Yeah.”
“I guess we should enjoy it while we still can” Falco smiled through words as he turned his head in Fox’s opposing direction.
“You know, I don’t think I ever want to stop.”
“What do you mean?” Falco turned back to him
“I don’t think I ever want to stop flying. I never wanna just- I don’t know how to describe it.” Fox’s eyes caught Falco’s and he spun to face him “it’s like there’s something about the sky, the universe, that just-“ he took a deep breath
“it calls to me.” He said, illustrating his emotions with his paws
“Yeah, no, I get that.” He grinned crookedly
“I just-“
Instantaneously the ship took a steep dive, it skipped against the still waters before Fox jolted forward to catch the wheel and steer them back up. Falco was jostled around a little bit, but ended up chuckling at him, with his hand up to his beak, muffling the laugh through his feathers. Fox decided to join in, to reminisce in the moment
“You’ve lost your game, McCloud!” He joked
“Oh, shut up” Fox said, with a snicker in between words
Falco shifted around a bit, to find an angle where he could comfortably lay his head against Fox’s side, he kicked his feet up against the Arwing’s walls and reclined himself against the feline, tapping his right foot gently
“Can you believe we started from nothing?” Falco began, in awe
“Correction, you started from nothing.” Fox smiled
“Yeah, yeah. I guess I should be thankful”
Falco began to stare off again, recounting their memories together. Knowing they had shared most of their time at the academy with each other; giving him access to the more hidden parts of Fox, the ones not seen by the public eye, every granule of intimate detail about the man; and Falco cherished it. He loved knowing Fox, and he found comfort in that Fox felt the same way, that as it seemed, he would forever more.
“Falco, can you check the time?” Fox asked plainly, not noticing he had interrupted something.
“Uh, yeah it’s like-“ his head darted around in search for a clock, and was ultimately unsuccessful in his task. “I don’t know” he shook his head to himself.
“It’s good, it just seems to be getting late, and the longer we’re out, the higher the chance we have of getting reprimanded.” He said, trying to add a hint of concern in his voice.
“Man, we just survived a whole war, I don’t think we’ll have to worry about that yet.” He mused
“Alrighty.” He patted Falco’s shoulder with his paw and smirked
Thus the lone Arwing waltzed along the deep waters and into the folds of the dark night’s ravishing dress.
